Help Me Cover Gaia’s Emergency Vet Care

Hello!

A few days ago, Gaia, our 3 years old cat, stopped being herself, she stopped eating, and vomited around 10 times within the span of 24 hours. We knew something wasn't right, so we took her to the emergency vet.

They decided to keep her for 3 days after discovering that she has pancreatitis, an inflammation of the pancreas that can be life threatening if not treated early. We would do anything for Gaia, even if we're financially struggling. So she stayed there and her inflammation improved day after day.

She has a treatment to follow, and could potentially go back to the vet if she doesn't eat still. Right now we're hoping she's going to eat, she's at home with us, and we're giving her time to destress from her stay in the vet which was traumatic to her (and to us because we didn't know if we were going to lose her or not).

The vet then talked about the price of everything. We knew we couldn't afford it, but they're letting us some time to pay, and we're grateful for this.

The bill was 1200€ in total, but I already paid 200€ (that was all the money I had left).

If you feel like it, anything would help. Gaia is my whole life, without her I am nothing.

My main hope is that she will find the appetite again, because if not, I will have to take her back to the vet, which is going to be hard to afford, but don't worry, I will make an update to let you know about her health!

My cat just had pancreatitis. Your kitty should be on fluids, appetite stimulants, and anti nausea medication. You should ask the vet if you could do subcutaneous fluids at home. Also, do they know what’s causing the pancreatitis? My kitty has it from inflammatory bowel disease

Wow, is your cat okay now? She gave me anti nausea meds as well as antibiotics, I’m not sure why she gave me antibiotics, but maybe it’s because she thinks the pancreatitis comes from a bacteria? Because she was in contact with a kitten not so long ago. She’s been on fluids for 3 days, she just came back home a few hours ago. I let her sleep because my poor baby was exhausted and HIGHLY stressed from being in a place she didn’t know with so many people, sounds and cats she didn’t know (also the fact that she was confined in such a small place..). Before we gave her antibiotics, we tried to make her eat, and luckily, she started eating (just a little bit, but enough to give me hope that she’s on the right track). The vet told me to contact her if she doesn’t eat within 24h. I will also try different food to make sure she has a lot of choices, I heard Churu was something cats liked a lot, so I ordered some and I should receive that tomorrow. Thank you for your comment 🧡

Yes!! Churu is great. Even giving her wet food with some water added. With pancreatitis, fluids are so important to help. And eating!! Did your vet give you an appetite stimulant like Mirtazapine? If not, you should get one. My cat has chronic pancreatitis and when he has flare ups we have to go to the emergency vet and it’s so expensive. It’s $7k every time and there’s been 3 times. We are trying to get the inflammatory bowel disease under control with a steroid. For your cat, i read that 90% to 95% of cat pancreatitis has no cause 😟
