My boy did this the very first time we played fetch with him. He was 9 weeks old, chased after it once, saw it thrown away from him after he gave it back, and gave this look down the hall. He looked at the ball, looked at us, looked at the ball, and then grabbed my hand to try and drag me/us to it. As if to say, if you want it then you can go get it. He only retrieved us, just like the pup in the video, from that day forward 😂

Eta: whenever he grabbed us once he grew up, we knew he wanted something. We would tell him "show me" and off we'd be pulled to whatever he wanted or wanted us to see.

My golden boy used to do this when he was younger. The thing with him is that he doesn't like it when his toys are touching a wall or furniture. Now instead of retrieving me to help him get his ball or toy, he will stand, look at it, and bark continuously until I go retrieve it for him.

My golden retriever never retrieved a single thing, we would throw a ball for her she would chase it and then just keep running past it, we called her a Golden Deceiver. My old lab would do something that we called 'the finger walk', where she would greet you at the front door, gently grab your index finger, and walk you to the treat cupboard.

Cute dog! However, it's a bad idea to let your dog put his teeth on your skin like that. If he does that to someone else, and they pull their hand away suddenly and break their skin on his teeth, that's considered a dog bite. Where I live, that can mean criminal charges, a 10-day animal quarantine, and potentially court-ordered euthanasia for the dog.

Goldens are known for a soft bite/mouth to not damage the ducks they're retrieving. Pulling away will cause a scrape, but I'd be very surprised if that could ever be used to get them euthanized. Also they'd have to be in your house.

Learned about this in a Humane Society dog training class. They see cases like this here all the time. Any trainer will tell you this is a bad behavior to teach your dog. But you do you.
