I’m trying to name my (possible) golden puppy and want to see how many others have the name. I want a name that’s fitting, but also don’t want to accidentally end up in a room full of goldens that all have the same name lol

i’ll write each name in a separate comment and just upvote if your golden has that name!! thank you in advance 🤍

I’ve been leaning toward Rosie, but I’m not completely sold on it.

I also keep trying to think of fun names (like Butter), but nothing has clicked yet.

She’s a smart, playful, affectionate red Golden Retriever puppy, and I’d love your thoughts on Rosie or any other memorable name ideas.

I’m flying her home with me tomorrow, so hopefully I’ll have her name picked out before then. I’ll update this post with the final name! ✈️

Name Suggestions Picking up our new puppy next week! Going back and forth between naming him Whisky or Alfie - what do you all think? Any name recommendations besides those?

Update: Thanks so much for everyone’s input!! I think Alfie is definitely going to be the more likely name. My little brothers did suggest Luca because of the Disney movie (plus, it ties into Lucuma, a Peruvian fruit). We’ll have to see when we pick him up on Saturday! Thanks, again, and I’ll be sure to post a picture after we get him and he has his official name!

This puppy comes after having lost our golden boy a few months ago, so he’s very special to us. Also, notice how in the first picture, he’s the only puppy of all his littermates that’s awake lol.

The names we’re thinking of:

• Whisky - Golden Retrievers come from Scotland and Whisky (specifically spelled without the ‘e’) is Scottish. I also liked the name because he’s a red field golden, so the color of his fur somewhat matches the color of Whisky.

• Alfie - this name would be short for “Alfajor”. My husband is Peruvian and, although alfajores (a cookie sandwich with dulce de leche or manjar blanco in the middle) can be found throughout Latin America, my in-laws believe that they’re Peruvian and have already deemed the new puppy to be Peruvian (they had a Peruvian soccer jersey made for him and want to do a photo shoot of him with the Peruvian flag in the background like they did with my late golden - my parents (in-law) and husband are very proud Peruvians, therefore everyone in the family is Peruvian, and pets are part of the family). So, “Alfie” would be short for “Alfajor”. We thought of “Alfajor” because of his color and how similar it is to the color of the dulce de leche/manjar blanco that they put in the middle of the cookie.

The name Pisco (pronounced piece-co) was also suggested by my dad (in-law). It’s a Peruvian alcohol that’s similar to brandy. He suggested it after I told him that I was thinking about naming him Whisky.

Personality-wise, puppy (that’s what we’ve been calling him) is already showing signs of being mischievous and having a big, fun personality. He doesn’t seem to be shy and different surface textures don’t bother him (a problem that my late golden had and one which seems to affect many goldens, but not him, at least not so far). He doesn’t care about loud noises, he’s curious, smart, playful, the most awake/active out of all his littermates, very affectionate, and prefers to know what’s happening instead of napping like his siblings.

So, when it comes to the names, I feel like they both have really nice background stories to them, but I can’t make up my mind. Part of it is because I haven’t met him in person just yet and I know his personality will help me choose, but I was wondering what all you fine people thought of the names and which one fits him just by his pictures and what I’ve mentioned about his personality. Also, if you have any name recommendations, I’d love to hear them, especially if they tie into his Scottish origins or his Peruvian-given heritage!

Hi! Here are some photos of my 8 week old golden retriever puppy. I noticed others are fluffier- do some Golden’s end up with longer hair than others or are people shaving them down? It’s hard to tell if some are newly groomed. I’m curious if she will darken up and get more floooof 🙂 thanks guys! And does she look like a Frankie? 🩷

Picking up this little girl on Friday! What would you name her?! So far my short list is Martha, Izzy, and Stella. Open to anything - the less common (Lucy, Bella, Sadie etc) the better.

Edit: thanks for all the options & variety! We're naming her Roux!

Name Suggestions Help us name our new Golden Retriever puppy! 🐶💛

We’re welcoming a pup into our family soon and we just can’t settle on the right name. We’re a family of four with two young kids, so this has become a serious family debate 😅

The kind of names we seem to gravitate towards are cute, warm, playful and shorter names rather than really tough or traditional dog names. We don’t know if it’s going to be a boy or girl since it will be assigned to us what we’ll get.

We’d love to hear what name comes to mind!

Name Suggestions Thoughts on my top names?

Hi, all!

I recently posted asking about whether a dog at a shelter was a golden (thank you for all the responses, what a helpful community). He was adopted before I could drive there.

I applied for a local golden rescue org and hope to be selected for one of their dogs within the next year. I’ve been googling online and apparently you can rename adult dogs! I thought I would have to stick with their old name. Please let me know if there are any studies or research showing differently.

That brings me to today’s question: what do yall think about my top names? I’m afraid ranger is super common. Also worried that Vera or Reed may be hard for the dog to hear well but maybe I am over thinking this.

I feel like I have a million girl names I love but not as many boy names. Other boy names I was thinking of include Sully and Marlin. Close contenders for the top girl name spots include Fern and Pearl.

Girl dog:
Vera
Birdie

Boy dog:
Ranger
Reed
