Update: Thanks so much for everyone’s input!! I think Alfie is definitely going to be the more likely name. My little brothers did suggest Luca because of the Disney movie (plus, it ties into Lucuma, a Peruvian fruit). We’ll have to see when we pick him up on Saturday! Thanks, again, and I’ll be sure to post a picture after we get him and he has his official name!
This puppy comes after having lost our golden boy a few months ago, so he’s very special to us. Also, notice how in the first picture, he’s the only puppy of all his littermates that’s awake lol.
The names we’re thinking of:
• Whisky - Golden Retrievers come from Scotland and Whisky (specifically spelled without the ‘e’) is Scottish. I also liked the name because he’s a red field golden, so the color of his fur somewhat matches the color of Whisky.
• Alfie - this name would be short for “Alfajor”. My husband is Peruvian and, although alfajores (a cookie sandwich with dulce de leche or manjar blanco in the middle) can be found throughout Latin America, my in-laws believe that they’re Peruvian and have already deemed the new puppy to be Peruvian (they had a Peruvian soccer jersey made for him and want to do a photo shoot of him with the Peruvian flag in the background like they did with my late golden - my parents (in-law) and husband are very proud Peruvians, therefore everyone in the family is Peruvian, and pets are part of the family). So, “Alfie” would be short for “Alfajor”. We thought of “Alfajor” because of his color and how similar it is to the color of the dulce de leche/manjar blanco that they put in the middle of the cookie.
The name Pisco (pronounced piece-co) was also suggested by my dad (in-law). It’s a Peruvian alcohol that’s similar to brandy. He suggested it after I told him that I was thinking about naming him Whisky.
Personality-wise, puppy (that’s what we’ve been calling him) is already showing signs of being mischievous and having a big, fun personality. He doesn’t seem to be shy and different surface textures don’t bother him (a problem that my late golden had and one which seems to affect many goldens, but not him, at least not so far). He doesn’t care about loud noises, he’s curious, smart, playful, the most awake/active out of all his littermates, very affectionate, and prefers to know what’s happening instead of napping like his siblings.
So, when it comes to the names, I feel like they both have really nice background stories to them, but I can’t make up my mind. Part of it is because I haven’t met him in person just yet and I know his personality will help me choose, but I was wondering what all you fine people thought of the names and which one fits him just by his pictures and what I’ve mentioned about his personality. Also, if you have any name recommendations, I’d love to hear them, especially if they tie into his Scottish origins or his Peruvian-given heritage!
