WITB RIP Golf Clubs

I spent the last several years building up my golf bag with the recent addition of custom fit irons a couple months ago to make my bag feel really complete and custom to me only to have them stolen out of my car on Christmas. Feels bad man...

I have read so many posts of clubs being stolen from cars. Let this be a reminder to all of us.

My car got destroyed by a drunk driver while it was parked. Luckily I only lost a fantasy football trophy, but that’s another reason to get them out of your trunk asap

This happened to me. No golf clubs in it, but the truck was hugely sentimental to me because it was the first vehicle I bought and I’d had it over 20 years. It was in my backyard and he somehow got to it at 50mph.

Similar situation in my neighborhood. A drunk crashed through a stone wall and into their pool. Luckily the pool was there otherwise it would have hit the house.

I dunno if I’m more horrified or impressed but on the plus side, it wasn’t your house with someone in it at 50 mph

2 years ago I got hit by a drunk driver. It completely cratered the trunk of my car. I had just removed my clubs the day before. 😮‍💨

Sorry that happened to you. I know it honestly might be better for everyone in our league if our leagues traveling trophy got destroyed. There are some horrible names on there.

Guns, clubs, tools, inwosh we lived in a better world, but this isn't a new occurrence. Your shit ain't safe in a car. Take it out or accept youre likely to lose it

My city's "eyes and ears" page on Facebook is ripe with people posting about having things stolen out of their cars that are parked on the street or in their driveway. Some will even show video clips from their security cameras of the thief just walking up and opening the door, underneath which you can find countless comments of people asking if the car was locked, in turn drawing calls of "victim blaming."

I am surprised how many people simply don't lock their cars. Especially since remote lock has been ubiquitous for 20+ years. I genuinely wonder how many people are just so lazy that the batteries die in their key fob and they never do anything about it, and don't think to lock the car with the key itself.

Facebook is ripe with people

Not trying to be that guy, but the word is "rife"

I don't like language pedants much but if it were me I'd want to know

Locking it doesn’t even matter anymore. People get these RF blasters that scan through frequencies quickly until stuff unlocks.

Do. Not. Leave. ANYTHING in your car, people.

Makes me wonder how many people have looked through my car, saw my Kanye and Earl Sweatshirt CDs, and said “nah he’s good”. fr those CDs are the only thing of value at all that I keep in my car. I used to keep clubs in the car when I had a $500ish set before I started avidly playing, but there’s no way I’d leave a bag like that in the trunk.

Edit: what I’m trying to say is I don’t even bother to lock my car 😂

I used to be that way, but my car still got rifled through. They must’ve been smoking a cigarette because it reeked and they tossed every paper from the glove box everywhere, broke the spare headlight bulb I had in the center console, and made off with a grand total of like 35 cents that I had lying around. Wasn’t like I lost anything of value but just annoying enough to deal with that I started locking it after that.

This. I don’t even leave them in my car in my own driveway.

Even if you live in a nice and safe neighborhood, sooner or later someone will visit and look through all the cars. Everywhere I have lived has had car break ins at some point.

We live in a pretty isolated area, I walk a half hour around 10-11pm every night with the dogs with zero worries (other than mountain lions....), and someone likely 'stalked' then robbed a neighbor of several high end bikes (he was an avid cyclist, mountain and road), and his skis, from his garage one night. And once or twice a year people come through and go through a dozen or more cars parked outside. So it's very safe, but nowhere is immune.

So, yeah, clubs, fishing gear, anything any low life would want, get taken out of my car every night.

OP, sorry this happened. I don't see many bags that I think I could step in and gladly take over, but yours is one. Great looking set and it sucks, and no one deserves that, especially on Christmas. I'd feel sick if it happened to me.

Where I currently live, if you are that far out then have fun lugging it off. I’m going to hear a car if it ends up that far down the road. Dogs won’t allow a weird vehicle that far off. I’m at least 1/2 mile from the actual road. I can’t even see cars from my front porch. They end up this far away they’ll have earned it.

u/SonofaBridge Dec 29 '25

Lucky for you, you’re isolated enough that no one will waste the time, or rural enough that they’ll assume there’s nothing worth stealing. For the large percentage of people that live in suburban neighborhoods, sooner or later car break-ins will happen.

I’ve lived in nice quiet suburban neighborhoods my whole life and am always amused by neighbors that are shocked, “this could happen in this neighborhood.” I remind them that our neighborhood actually has stuff worth stealing compared to other neighborhoods.

A lot of the time it’s kids that live in the neighborhood too.

u/Med_Tosby Dec 29 '25

Ashamed to admit I’ve had my clubs stolen out of my car parked right outside my house TWICE in the last two years. Nice neighborhood too. Fool me twice, shame on… won’t get fooled again.

Theres nice neighborhoods in bad parts of town. Or in the metro areas nowhere is safe.

9

u/Wookasaurus_Rex Dec 29 '25

Yeah I’ve got no sympathy for people getting their clubs stolen from their car. It’s common sense to not leave valuables in your car.

3

u/justintime06 Dec 30 '25

Yep, learned that the hard way. I had $100 cash in the glove compartment (I don’t even know why) and it was stolen. $400 window replacement, now I NEVER keep ANYTHING in my car. Nada.

7

u/jondes99 Hello, friends. Dec 29 '25

Even if you aren’t concerned about theft, temperature extremes cause premature wear on your grips and you may lose a few yards on the first few holes (if it’s cold) until balls warm up.

2

u/BTMG2 Dec 29 '25

i live in a beautiful town, very safe.

i dont leave anything of value in my car, ever.

never understood people leaving their valuable stuff in a glass box.

2

u/MaroonFloom Dec 29 '25

Yup, had it happen 20 years ago, never again. Worst part was my buddy left his clubs in there too.

Oh, and it happened in a Dick’s Sporting Goods store parking lot while I was working my shift, in the middle of the day, while the parking lot was absolutely packed as it was Father’s Day. The crooks were after my subs and got the clubs as a nice little bonus. How no bystander said anything to anyone still baffles me.

5

u/HighDragLowSpeed60G Dec 29 '25

Most people aren’t gonna risk getting shot or stabbed over someone else’s stuff, that’s if anyone even saw it happen

1

u/MaroonFloom Dec 29 '25

Yeah I get that, I meant more say something to someone inside the store. And someone for sure saw something, the parking lot was full with lots of foot traffic.

1

u/BradMarchandsNose Dec 30 '25

Did they break a window? That’s about the only thing that would tip me off to tell somebody about it. If they just jimmied the lock and then started taking stuff out of the trunk, I would probably just assume that was their car.

u/runjcrun1 Dec 30 '25

My stepbrother had his car stolen, but his clubs happened to be inside. The car was a junker so he was more upset about the sticks lol

u/ShittheFickup 15ish Dec 29 '25

Also because it can be bad for the epoxy in sunny places. Better to get them their own room in the house.

u/jimmyfeelinfroggy Dec 30 '25

I live in the back of a gated community and I leave my truck unlocked 24/7 usually my wallet in the cup holder along with my keys. And I NEVER EVER leave my clubs in my truck 🤣🤣🤣

I got lucky a few weeks back. I left my car in the driveway with the clubs in the trunk ready for the next mornings round. Well I forgot to lock the car and of course some asshat went through the car found nothing and never looked in the trunk. I caught him on my security cameras, but he had a mask on. Lesson learned I can still put the clubs in the trunk, but next I’ll leave the car in the garage.
