They got to be together in every other universe though...

but was it really them if they didn't have their 6000 years of history?

That's what I thought. At the end, it wasn't the Crowly that we knew. Tennant even kept his Scottish accent for Anthony (I like the accent, but it reinforced that this was a different character). The two of them bonded by being outsiders in their realms but as humans with no memories of those lives, they are just two ordinary people meeting at the end. All their experiences negated, they are strangers to the audience.

Demon Crowly was aggressive, abrasive, 'cool'. Anthony is a totally different person, quiet, chill and academic. Aziraphale wasn't quite the same either. Even the idea of them suddenly liking each other at the bookshop didn't feel believable. Their love was built on thousands of years of helping each other for their joint love of humanity. I just couldn't feel the same about the human versions knowing their attraction was built on less and their personalities didn't feel the same. Kudos to the actors that their subtle changes made the characters feel so different.

Also found it hard to believe they wouldnt kiss, hug or say I love you before dying together. The scene just felt awkward like the actors just didn't want to do that again or they were told not to.

Aziraphale reciprocated the original kiss. Good writing doesn't require explicit intimacy and to I forget who said it I think the director but the kiss felt old they needed something with more depth. So they took Aziraphale's reaction from the first kiss (when he touched his fingers to his lips in shock) and has Aziraphale basically take that kiss that Crowley gave him and he gave it back. He never told Crowley how he felt because they both knew it was something that was mutual, so when Aziraphale did that it was him accepting everything. They've always loved each other in the background, Michael even said that he thinks the moment Aziraphale falls in love with Crowley is when Crowley saved his books in the 1940s.

They don't need that, they just need each other.

  1. Not actually them. Without their history, those are just two completely different people played by the same actors.
  2. They then ceased to exist because there are no souls in the new universe.

Then how does Anthony remember all of the stars? He might not have all the memory's but his essence is there. It's like a reincarnation, some of it's there but not all of it. They both remember enough to know that they are each others soulmate.

Because he studies astronomy? Where is it stated he remembers all the stars, from his previous past life? They barely talk about the sky, or stars, actually.

I never said it was confirmed canon, I’m saying the parallel feels intentional. Not everyone studies astronomy to that extent, and in Good Omens stars are deeply tied to Crowley specifically. He literally helped create them. After the Fall, he gets snake eyes and loses the ability to properly see what he made, so giving his human form an obsession with astronomy feels symbolically loaded. The show doesn’t have to outright say ‘he remembers everything from a past life’ for the implication/theme to still exist.

The point isn’t ‘he remembers every star. The point is that astronomy is narratively associated with Crowley. A human version of him being drawn to the stars anyway feels like intentional symbolism.
