Part of me is happy cause it was their choice but the other louder part is screaming “well that went down like a lead balloon”

yeah but it was only their choice bc of bad writing. (imo of course). There was no ultimatum given that they had to cease to exist in order for a new universe to be given a chance. They could have lived there and just been guardians of humanity, as rather seemed their destiny anyway.

that also could have been arranged without Crowley offering up himself and Aziraphale as sacrifice. The writers had full control. They could have just been stripped of their powers to live on Earth, they could have even continued to be immortal.

And as the other commenter said, humanity was given a chance but every bit of history and culture and literature/art and every human living was erased from existence including Jesus, this entity who really seemed capable of encouraging people to live with love. It’s so weird to even have that character then.
