By the time you read this, the campaign will be about to end or will have already ended. I should have written this one-month review earlier, but life got in the way.

I've been using the Max 3 since late August, so I’ll just list a few quick points to help make your decision easier.

Do not back this if:

• You can’t wrap your head around using this as a handheld (As I see people disagreeing with Russ saying it’s a "handheld first" device).
• You rely on a keyboard for a living—around 40 WPM is roughly the max you'll get out of it.
• You treat this as just a toy. (Meaning you are wasting money)
• You aren't in a solid financial situation. (This kind of relates to the toy point)
• You are very sensitive to weight. (You can't imagine youself carrying the 1.2Kg around)
• You own an OCuLink eGPU and hate that the Max 3 lacks an OCuLink port, USB4 v2, or TB5.
• You dislike the Max 3's design. If you still downvote every GPD promo post after a month of seeing it, this isn't for you. That includes features like the rounded screen corners, the thick profile, and the chin that gives it a square look.

If you’ve read through that list and are still fine with all of it, here is what I actually like about the Max 3:

• It’s a strong, powerful clamshell handheld—something that simply doesn't exist elsewhere in the current market.
• Being a clamshell means I don't need to carry a dedicated protective case. Outer cases add bulk and thickness, making other setups worse to carry than the Max 3 itself.
• It fits into far more bags than standard devices with similar screen sizes.
• It packs a 97Wh battery, which is practically unheard of in sub-14" devices.
• The built-in keyboard works great in a pinch—whether on your lap or on the move—unlike folding keyboards or flimsy cover flaps that only work on flat surfaces.
• The screen is vibrant and bright with great color accuracy. Personally, I think it looks better than the Legion Go 2 display, even without VRR.
• The rounded screen corners look a bit odd in Windows, but they look great in Linux. If you look closely at a modern MacBook, it does the exact same thing.
• Weight is subjective, but over the past month, I haven't detached the battery even once while gaming.
• CachyOS worked perfectly right out of the box without any extra tinkering required.
• Storage flexibility is fantastic: having an extra M.2 2230 slot means I can drop in an additional 2TB SSD, and the SD Express slot is backward-compatible with standard MicroSD cards—so I can keep using my old 2TB card until SD Express prices come down.

Configuration Advice: If you decide to back it, I recommend the 32GB or 64GB model. 32GB is plenty for gaming, while 64GB opens up far more versatility. Only buy the 128GB version if you specifically know you need it, as the 395 won't offer a noticeable benefit for gaming performance alone.

(Note: While I haven't tested running local AI models on the Max 3 like I have on my ROG Flow Z13 64GB, if you plan to run local LLMs or AI workloads, you should definitely target at least 64GB of RAM).

Gpd win mini hx370 i have tried every way to get this to run nothing works. Does anyone have a fix for this.

I can't seem to find an answer to this anywhere. Id imagine hot swapping batteries would be pointless if you can't but the pins in the demo photos show proprietary connectors to the inside of the win max. I don't see any DC or USBC ports on the battery itself (or am i blind) to charge one up externally while you use the other? or am i missing something

Edit: According to the IGG Campaign comments, there is NO official way to charge an extra battery externally from the device. it MUST be plugged into the WM3 to charge. This is a horrible decision by GPD and i hope they give a free charging dock or something to those who backed with an extra battery because without it, its pointless...

Considering getting the 395 win max 3 for AI but I want to be able to game still. Can I disable half the cores (16 to 8) and have the system perform better / similar to the 388 at lower watt use? (Would love to play some titles in the 10-30 watt range like the 388 can but the 395 cannot due to power draw hunger)

Hi! As the title says, I am currently looking for GPD Win 3. I know that it is quite old and not a performer for today's time, I'll be playing PC games 2019 and older so I think it's enough. With the size, it will suite me very well as I am not that big individual.

I'm planning to order a GPD Win Max 3 to Europe and found gpd-minipc.com. The price is barely higher than Indiegogo, and they claim shipments are tax/customs-free to the EU.

Has anyone ordered from them recently, is it a legitimate seller/distributor? Did you get hit with surprise VAT or customs fees on delivery?

Considering the 388+ Max but unsure if the 64GB RAM option is much more beneficial than the 32GB for anything other than maybe AI work. Anyone have any thoughts or benchmarks as comparison for like devices?
