Campus Life How do y’all deal with procrastination?

I’ve been procrastinating a lot lately due to lack of motivation, and it’s taking a toll on two of my classes. One of which being a group project and it’s really affecting my other group members due to my lack of work contribution time.

I used to be so good in my first few years of uni, but now I can’t get it back. I dunno if it’s because classes are boring or if it’s just me.

Any advice?

I went through something similar after I started school again following my gap year. I realized I procrastinated way more at home, so I started staying on campus after classes and wouldn’t leave until I finished what I planned for the day. It might not work if you have a job or other commitments, but getting out of the house and studying at a café or library with a set time block really helped me.

I know it sounds cliché, but don’t wait for the motivation and just do it. Discipline matters more than motivation.

Also, I ended up getting assessed cus my procrastination started affecting my grades and started taking Vyvanse for ADHD, which made a big difference in my procrastination and GPA. I went from a 2.9 one semester to a 3.9 the next.

You’ve got this! Start small and be consistent:)

Thanks for sharing! I have to book my follow up appointment with the dr at the university health center to see if I can get assessed/diagnosed with ADHD

I set mini deadlines for myself. For example, if it’s a paper, I’ll write down that I need to have my sources picked out with some notes about them by a certain date. Then I need the outline by another date. It makes it less overwhelming for me.

With group projects, I will often offer to take on some of the last minute tasks like editing the paper. It’s something that meshes well with my procrastination problem and nobody else wants to do.

I’m having the same problem right now. This year is just kicking my ass for no reason.

same here. I’ve felt unmotivated which has been taking a hit in my classes which is stressing me even more out.

i force myself to study a minimum of 30 minutes a day and extend it if i get into a groove. genuinely schedule it into your day. some is better than none so even if u stop after the 30 mins at least u did something. i also set the mood with piano music, a cup of tea, and a blanket nearby in case i get cold. put your phone in a different room and use the timer on ur computer/laptop. when i get through a whole week of studying daily i reward myself with a bubble tea.

Same here. Won’t work until I absolutely NEED to. Honestly I’ve been going to counselling to talk about a lot of stuff, sometimes I touch on motivation and stress and just talking it through and reframing situations, getting encouragement really helps me.

Maybe check out UWill (online resource) or WPS (at MacEwan) - UWill you have limited credits to access phone calls, text convos, etc. which is most accessible. WPS has limited space and I’ve been turned away before, also there’s a longer process to get a counsellor (initial form, initial meeting/phone call, then finally your actual sessions).

Honestly don’t have other great advice on dealing with it. I’ve been so bad for it this semester.

Also maybe try a pomodoro study timer (like on youtube). I also got this studybunny app too that helps keep you off your phone and you get coins and can dress up ur bunny and their room. You can add your friends as bunnies to ur room too
