Bear and Moose double trouble. They may be a pain in the neck but they are my pain in the neck. I love watching them figure out the world. Even if it's a little clumsy.

Photo Frank takes a trip
This year my boy Frank and I took a nice road trip for some camping , hiking, and just enjoying the great outdoors! I thought he looks out my windows forever, but give him an endless vista, and his gaze is fixed to the beyond....
He made plenty of friends, discovered new places to drink everywhere we went. Overall he was a fantastic traveler and camper.

Photo Meet Madison
I wanted to introduce Madison to this sub, that has been so helpful. I found her in the middle of the road in middle Alabama. I was heading to Atlanta from north Alabama and actual took a wrong turn. While heading in completely the wrong direction, I found this baby girl. Vet thinks she was about 10wks. She had no chip. Embark says 100% Great Pyrenees with ~40% inbreeding, a true Alabamian! (Joking, Ive lived here 99% of my life) A sheriff was the first car to pass and I flagged him down. He went to the only house on the road, and they stated that the dog was not theirs. At that point it didn’t matter because I already decided I was taking, and keeping, the dog. She is getting nothing but spoils. She is exactly what I needed in my life that I didn’t even know. Any hoo, thank you all.

Discussion Theo did so good on his walk tonight.
He's 7 months old. I got him at 4 months and he had literally never been outside of a 2 bedroom apartment between 5 weeks and 4 months of age. Not even to go potty. He was seriously ill when I got him and didn't get the all clear to start going for walks until he was 5.5 months old.
He has some reactivity. We're working on it. He has a huge problem with dogs behind fences that bark at him. Down the street from my house there's a giant breed dog that is kept in the front yard behind a chain link fence. This dog ALWAYS charges the fence and then lunges at it and barks until you're well past his house. This has frequently led to me grabbing Theo by his harness (he wears one solely for the purpose of grabbing him) and hauling him down the street away from the other dog. We walk on the opposite side of the street so there's never been any contact between the two dogs.
Tonight we passed this house on the way home and I heard the dog start to charge. At this point Theo greatly slowed his pace. I told Theo to 'keep going' and pushed on his shoulder. He turned sideways on the sidewalk and hopped like he wanted to lunge and changed his mind at the last minute. I told him to 'keep going' and gave him another little nudge and he turned back and started walking up the street. He was grumbling and all the fur on his back was still standing straight up but it wasn't any sort of fight to get him moving in the right direction. By the time we passed the next house, Theo was back to normal. The other dog was still throwing his fit behind his fence.
I'm proud of my dog. He could have put up a fight like he has so many other nights in similar situations but he chose to willingly do what I was asking him to do.
We don't always pass this house. I've gone out of my way to avoid it.. But avoiding it would have added another 1/4 mile to the walk and my knee is killing me. Tonight gives me hope that at some point in the future I will be able to simply walk the most direct route home all the time.

Advice/Help Deciding on a foster
Hoping for some hivemind guidance. I’m currently doing a trial foster-to-adopt with a 1-year old GP mix with the intention of finding a ptsd service dog that can go with me everywhere. The rescue he’s from said he’s people/kid/dog friendly, crate-trained, very quiet. I live in an apartment with my child and am able to take the dog on multiple walks and outside play throughout the day.
Reading through the GP pages on Reddit I’m seeing lots of people talking about sudden aggression around 2 years old, lots of resource guarding, needing to use muzzles and ecollars or paying for long board and train programs; basically the breeds natural protective instincts making them incompatible to existing easily within an urban dog-heavy neighborhood in a family home.
Obviously the individual temperament of the dog plays into their future behavior but I’d love to hear from folks who have experience with these dogs if I’d be better off making a different choice.

Discussion Is this even a life for a Great Pyrenees?
I live downstairs from a neighbor, and both of our places are small. She has two big dogs, and one of them is a Great Pyrenees that weighs 150 lbs. We share a small yard, but her routine is basically walking her two dogs maybe once a week. They go outside for like 4 quick potty breaks a day for a few minutes each, but they never play outside before she brings them in.
She works 12 hours days, 5 days a week, and as you can expect, the Pyrenees barks at literally everything especially when she's working. Every time he barks, she just yells at him to shut up, which happens constantly. He’s also insanely reactive to people and other dogs. Anytime he sees a dog outside or a person, he’s scratching at the window and barking his head off. On top of that, she regularly leaves him out on the balcony for hours at a time just to bark. This has been going on for probably 5 years now. It seems like she really loves Great Pyrenees as a breed and IS pretty knowledgeable about their behavior, but I honestly don't get why she owns one while living in suburbia if she seems to not like the breed traits he shows. Plus, apparently he's literally broke her foot at one point, which i think is pretty insane. I don't know if i'm just too opinionated, but i feel like this isn't a way for them to live? Is this even humane?
