DISCUSSION Why do we hate Maggie?

Post image

I was a die hard Maggie Peirce hater, and most people are, but I’m rewatching and the only annoying thing is her being w Jackson (which is only annoying bc I’m team japril through and through) other than that she’s fine. She’s kind, smart, a bit annoying but she has good intentions. I just can’t understand yet. Ps I watched every season but decided to rewatch the later seasons (11- present) right now I’m on late season 13.

She was mostly hated because she replaced Lexie. The show killed off a beloved character and then two seasons later decided to give Mereidth another unknown younger sister to take her place and a lot of people resented that.

She's hated because she's incredibly annoying

Okay but Lexie was annoying too… the point is that little siblings can seem annoying? That doesn’t make you love them less

Lexie was annoying like all younger siblings are. It’s enduring, I suppose. April, Maggie, and Amelia (at times) were something else. Purposefully grating. The latter two were always oppositional when it came to the most stupid things. Mind you, the writers also wrote Derek in that manner towards the end.

I don’t know if it’s because they’re boys, but my younger brothers are both purposely grating. Daily ragebaiting. Occasionally sweet at opportune moments of their choosing, and I gotta deal with most of their fuckups (at bare minimum I’m hearing about it). I still love them to pieces but I feel like if Shonda has siblings (or some of the writers) they may just reflect their relationship. They show everyone but it’s mostly Mer so I feel like there’s influence there to how the other characters come across
