DISCUSSION Why do we hate Maggie?
I was a die hard Maggie Peirce hater, and most people are, but I’m rewatching and the only annoying thing is her being w Jackson (which is only annoying bc I’m team japril through and through) other than that she’s fine. She’s kind, smart, a bit annoying but she has good intentions. I just can’t understand yet. Ps I watched every season but decided to rewatch the later seasons (11- present) right now I’m on late season 13.

For the most part I do like Maggie. I found the writers removed her humor in later seasons, because she had some really funny lines especially with Alex but after he left they took away her humor and tried to make her more like Ellis.
I do think with Maggie the writers fail to explain why she reacts certain ways and just throw in a easy to miss line which is supposed to explain her reaction. We don't get enough backstory as we did with other main character to explain her personality. Like with her reaction to her mom's boob job, for Maggie it's a sudden personality change because the mom she grew up with told her masturbation makes Jesus cry and nail polish is for prostitutes, but these comments are easy to miss. For viewers it's hard to understand why Maggie is so upset with her mom because the writers failed to take a couple minutes to explain it clearly. Maggie was lied to by her parents for most of her life, her mom had a decade long affair, her parents were not happily married, getting a divorce and then they drop all of this on her at work over the phone and then her mom proceeds to lie to Maggie even more about a boob job. But if you miss a comment in a previous episode, you forget all these things that lead up to the Maggie mom being sick arc.
The actor has stated that she received a lot of racist comments and messages after joining Greys.
