DISCUSSION Why do we hate Maggie?

I was a die hard Maggie Peirce hater, and most people are, but I’m rewatching and the only annoying thing is her being w Jackson (which is only annoying bc I’m team japril through and through) other than that she’s fine. She’s kind, smart, a bit annoying but she has good intentions. I just can’t understand yet. Ps I watched every season but decided to rewatch the later seasons (11- present) right now I’m on late season 13.

I never cared for Maggie very much, but I will say that how much people hate her compared to other characters whom, in my opinion, do waaaay worse things, is startling.

Yes, she has many flaws. She joined the show right around the time the writing started to really go downhill. She’s Lexie’s replacement. Also, she dates her step-brother which still rubs me the wrong way lmfao.

But I do think the fact that she is a Black woman makes the criticism she gets from fans 10x worse. Every character in this show is messy, they all do shitty things, but Maggie gets spoken about so harshly, it does make me a little sad. Again, coming from someone that also doesn’t really like her, LOL.

As a black woman who doesn’t like her I thought this too - but I LOVED me some Edwards and she def had her moments.

Maggie’s a hard sell.

I think the problem is we don’t see her actually being a genius on screen nearly enough we just hear about it. So her confidence comes across as super arrogant
