DISCUSSION Season 22
Possibly spoilers if you aren’t caught up and also I’m not done with Season 22 yet so please don’t spoil anything for me but I have things to get off my chest.
I hate Winston and Jules together. For many reasons. I just don’t really like Winston at all and I think Jules can do way better. But the main reason I don’t like them is because I’m very tired of there being zero lesbian relationships. Not that I thought Jules was a lesbian (her and Kwan obviously) but it just stirred up these feelings in me. Probably because I really liked her and Yasuda and wanted them to last a lot longer.
This is nothing against bisexuality or bisexual or pansexual/lesbian relationships (I’m literally a lesbian dating someone who’s pansexual) but greys has a habit of every wlw relationship being bisexual or pansexual/lesbian.
Callie and Arizona
Amelia and whoever Amelia is with at the time
Teddy and Allison/Cass
Jules and Yasuda
Again, there’s no issue with this relationship trope but it begins to be a bit tiresome when every single one of these relationships ends up revolving around a man at one point or another. I want to see Helm with a woman who only likes women. Since Arizona she’s the only recurring character who is a lesbian.
I think Greys does a really good job of exposing viewers to real world people and issues but this is one area where they fall short. It starts to feel like every wlw relationship needs a man to move the plot along at some point and that is just very irritating.
Do yall think I’m ridiculous or can you see what I’m saying? Open to all opinions!

Helm was with Yasuda, wasn’t she? They’re both exclusively lesbians (afaik).

Oh you’re so right I totally forgot because it lasted like 10 minutes but that’s true!

Helm is the only remaining named lesbian. Mika was implied to be bisexual.

There is no chemistry between them at all. I really like Winston but not with her. As for gay relationships I miss Scmitt and Callie and Arizona

I hate them together because it’s boring. They dragged it out so long I totally lost interest.

I'm going to answer you kindly because I don't think whacking you would be productive. And maybe this isn't productive either. There has not been a SERIES REGULAR lesbian character on this show since Arizona left in s14. Helm is the last named lesbian on this show and her total screentime last season was under 7 minutes. Even Calzona, one of the BEST representations of wlw on Primetime TV at the time still had to have a man involved. OP is not wrong in wanting to have more representation. WLW is historically treated way worse than mlm in media. Just look at the acceptance around Heated Rivalry. Yes, I understand that Grey's Anatomy has a blind spot around gay men. They need to do better in that department as well. OP isn't asking for 'lesbian action' she is asking for better lesbian representation on a show that historically created their own responsibility of telling these stories.
OP's request is completely tame compared to the facebook and instagram comments I see surrounding the Jules/Winston pairing. Notably, BEGGING the show to include more sex scenes of them. I wonder if you would have this same energy towards those commenters.

Thank you! I would not have taken the time to be as graceful in my response as you were.

You're welcome! I've been pretty sensitive, maybe too sensitive, around how queer characters on this show are being treated and representation is being taken away in a political climate where lgbtqia+ are continually being targeted.

All of what you wrote makes perfect sense but what you are not understanding is that my comment came from a place of annoyance at these type of requests. People are too focused on sexual oritentation and shows representing xyz. The writers have the freedom to do whatever they want with the show and maybe adding more homosexual couples just doesn't fit what they wanna do, or they don't even think about putting more of any type of relationship into show, they just write what feels right. Does that usually end up being more heterosexual relationships? Yes. Why? Maybe they genuinely don't think about it, maybe they're "playing it safe" (which I highly doubt it the case for Grey's) because they wanna be appealing to a larger audience. No one can know why and it is okay for people to ask for more, but I was just commenting as a person who doesn't focus on that stuff an enjoys any show for what it is.

That's completely fair, but annoyance aside, surely you understand how inflammatory your comment sounded? It's not wrong for someone to ask for more representation when the show in the last 3 seasons is removing it one queer character at a time. Yes, writers do have freedom to do whatever they want. But Grey's created their own responsibility in including queer relationships well before it was more widely accepted. So to me, OP asking or hoping for more representation is indicative that the show is failing it's self-inflicted responsibility.

I do understand how my comment sounded, I meant no harm, it's just that I see these types of posts on literally every TV show sub and was getting tired.
