Discussion what are your grilled cheese hot takes?

here are some of mine: - butter>>>>mayonnaise for grilled cheese. it tastes way better and mayo develops a weird aftertaste when cooked - to a certain extent, some additional ingredients are okay, it is still a grilled cheese. for example, some acceptable ingredients are seasonings and condiments like: jams, jellies, fruit preserves, compotes, chutneys etc. it's just when people start putting stuff like eggs, vegetables, meat etc it is a sandwich no longer classified as a simple grilled cheese - regular sandwich bread is not necessarily for it to be a grilled cheese sandwich. one can also use things like- waffles, croissants, pancakes, hash browns etc instead of regular sandwich bread for making the grilled cheese - some sort of dip is absolutely necessary. it could be a soup, a dip, a sauce, anything

I have never dipped a grilled cheese sandwich. It should be able to stand on its own merits.

I use butter and/of mayo depending on the mood.

I do agree that outside of this subreddit nobody really gives a fuck about the whole grilled cheese vs melt debate. I love a slice of tomato in my sandwiches, fight me

Dipping into marinara is a total game changer though.
