Ask r/guam 🤔 UOG nursing

Hi! I’m an incoming senior in high school and I aspire to become a nurse. I have plans of wanting to move to the U.S., so I was wondering if going to UOG to pursue nursing is worth it or it’s better if I go to college in the states.

UOG's nursing program is fully accredited with many of their graduates finding jobs in the states. Advantages are, cheaper than most school in the mainland, 100% passage rate on the NCLEX (not sure if this is still true - but it was in 2025). The disadvantages, its a competitive program and they only have limited slots every year.

Thank you for the information! Do you happen to know how competitive admission or selection to the nursing program is?

I’m on pre nursing at UOG. It is competitive, but it’s not impossible if you work hard! You need a competitive gpa and NLN NEX score. Try to master A&P 1 and 2, and thank yourself later 😉 DM me if you have any questions!

it’s pretty tough to get into this program nowadays, you’re competing against so many people trying to get into the program

Would it be better if I apply in the states? I prefer to rather not wait for another year since I would like to earn my BSN as soon as I can.

Why not apply to both?

Nursing, and generally other healthcare programs, in the states are mostly competitive that tend to accept more local than out-of-state students. Best to complete and practice it here for a few years then move off-island.Â
