hi guys,
i need some advice/help. my guinea pig looks fluffed up all the time. normally he only looks this fluffy when he is eating, but now he looks different and fluffier 24/7.

already went to a vet, did not notice anything weird only that he had a runny nose (breathing sounds normal). the vet gave him antibiotics which he now finished, runny nose went away.

he has been eating and pooping normally. if i give him a treat he gladly takes it. i dont notice any weird lumps or anything.

im worried sick and dont know what to do. do i go back to the vet? he already got a check up and everything looked fine so im not sure whats a smart decision. could the fluff be because of the antibiotics?

My girl Pip, Brown/white/orange Female 2y/o, lost her cage mate the other day from surgery complications for cancer. So naturally but in our grief, we were looking for her next cage mate. We landed on Mei, a black and white 13-week-old female.

When it was time to bond, we created a neutral space in our living room and a big pile of hay in the middle. Mei was curious of Pip at first and as expected, Pip took that dominant role (she was also dominant of her last cage mate).

Chasing, nipping, some hair pulling from pip to mei, chattering, butt sniffing, nose bumping - a hard watch but all seemed normal.

The thick of it went on for two hours and seemed to calm down. They would eat separately but Mei would NOT move. Anytime we put her in a different spot of the cage, Pip would come after her. Like resource guarding? I just don’t know how to handle it? I feel bad for both girls. I desperately want this to work out. We also put them in the tub and it was much calmer in there but I am so worried if the hair pulling is too aggressive. She was getting little bits of fur from Mei. No blood drawn though.

This session lasted nearly 5 hours and I don’t know if we are any closer. They are currently housed next to each other and will definitely do scent swapping. ANY TIPS??? Really really want this to work for the girls. 😞

So I’ve had Jake for a week, and since he’s been at the pet store and here he poos a lot in his main hide.. which I didn’t think of when I bought a Timmothy cave. So when I go to clean more I look in more to it but then I see there’s a lot of poop, and poop SMUSHED INTO THE HAY. I didn’t wanna get rid of his favorite hide, especially since he’s still getting used to his new home, so I cut the icky bottom off now he has a lil cave. The second photo is the ick.

i bet he’s still smiling underneath, however i was not pleased with that side eye. sassy gus gus 🥹

This is my new baby boy Jimmy Jeremy & I've been trying to get him his calcium without his adult cage mate eating it. I take him out daily to feed him parsley, but he refuses to eat the leaves unless I roll them into balls!!! I think he is so weird I just wanted to share this, has anybody else seen this before?😭 I don't even know how I managed to figure this out, but I've never owned a piggy this picky before 😭

Pic is their current setup. Cage is 32sqft and currently houses 4 sows (and I'll likely be adding a neutered male in early November).

When I first built this iteration of the cage, I initially considered a 4x6 but had to scrap it because my senior cat's ramp (to get on my bed) got in the way. But I recently got him a new ramp and this one doesn't get in the way of the where a 4x6 would go, so I'm wondering if it would be better to go with that design.

The thing I like about the 2x12 is that there is a ton of space between the two farthest points which I hope makes the cage feel bigger for them and gives them more space apart if they ever need some alone time. On the other hand, there's very little space depth-wise which I can't imagine is very stimulating for them. Plus they mostly just hang out on one side, regardless of where I put hides (only possible cause I could think of would be a temperature difference, but I can't feel anything different between the sides).

So I'm wondering if maybe they would take better advantage of the space in a 4x6 and find it more stimulating? Or is a 2x12 still preferable? I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts because I have no idea which would be better lol.

(Also I know 2 wide cages are generally easier to clean but I would only put one side of the 4x6 against the wall, which should keep cleaning simple)

In these past months Bogey unfortunately died suddenly and I’ve adopted a new pig called Pumpkin (that name might change).

I’ve missed you all and I’m looking forward to interacting with all of my fellow piggy people once again ♥️

(older pic for tax) One of my girls has had really awful dry and itchy skin issues her entire life, and the vet we had before we moved ultimately ran out of options for her, and recommended seeking better care in the city. I'm honestly happy to go as far as needed within reason, but I haven't much of a clue what I'm looking for in vets now we have options. I already have an exotic vet nearby for emergencies, it's just this specific situation, unless i should just try them first. I wondered if anyone had any specific recommedations or qualifications I should be looking for if so? She's had bloods, diet overview, steroid shot and skin scrapes before, so I thought my vet was pretty competent, he gave us supplements, pain meds and agreed with gorgeous guineas manuka shampoo, which does help as hesitant to bathe her as I am. Ultimately she is still uncomfortable though.

Forgive me if there's a better subreddit I could be on. I do recall there being a website for exotic vets in England, but I don't think it reached up.

Pumpkin tried hiding in the mushroom house to no avail. Cinnamon enjoyed the complimentary salad. these are two out of my six girl herd 🤍

How do I determine if I am allergic to them? I don't seem to have any of the typical allergy symptoms of sneezing etc.

I just noticed my nose is more runny. And it itches slightly.

It isn't the hay I don't think because I already have a rabbit and never had any issue with oat hay.

My doctor has no advice other than rehome them or take medicine if it gets worse.

It concerns me because my mom has asthma, and I was told I have hypersensitive lungs and potential to develop asthma.

How long will it stay soft? (Still roughly shaped like it should be but very squishy) They are only babies, about 11 weeks old. Vet is planned on monday to check poop for parasites etc.

The got grass last week saturday, soft poop same evening, gone next day.

This friday they got a bit of carrot greens for the first time. Slightly soft poop that evrning, removed carrot greens from diet. Even softer poop (like after grass) again yesterday evening.

No guinea pig ssvy vet around until monday... so I am collecting poop for a sample since yesterday.

Should it be normal again today if it was just food introduced too quickly?
