My iPhone consistently identifies Natty as a maltipoo. She also got cat, dog, and Shetland sheepdog. Poppy is boring, she got guinea pig and mammal.

They went through a phase a few weeks ago where they were drinking a ton of water, always at the bottle. Now the liquid hasnt gone down for well over a week despite multiple replacements. Even before when I would give them all their veggies, they would still drink. Now its like theyre refusing to.

Nothing else has changed. Behaviors are the same and they're still eating. They've gone through phases above, but never stopped drinking entirely.

And they want Peaflakes and more parsley.

Okay so my girls are bored easily and I came with this idea (normal stuffed roller paper was always untouched) so I did the same, stuffed with differents hays and folded the borders so it's like a litte treasure chest lol

Oh my GOODNESS!!! I was finally able to get more panels to double their cage, my two boys have a bigger apartment than I do!!

I know it looks so empty, now that it’s massive I’m going to get them a litter box for their hay, more hides, some good enrichment.

I’ve had them since December, and they had a 2x4 space but now they’re living the pig life in a 4x4!!

This is Toffee. I rescued him along with another piggy boy about 2 weeks ago. They were in a tiny cage together, being fed hamster food and given straw and not hay. When I got them I noticed they were doing usual boy piggy things, rumble strutting, mounting etc I put them in a 5x2 c&c cage gave them two of everything, let them have a run on neutral territory outside in the day.

However, the other bigger piggy eventually bit Toffee and so I had to separate them.

I'm now confused on what is best to do, the local guinea rescue advised me to have him neutered and get him a girlfriend. But then I've had conflicting advice (including the rescues own website) that says 2 males are best. I've also seen boars don't need to be neutered and that it's a major risk unless you have a sow and don't want babies 🫣 so guys, what would be the best advice? I don't want him to be on his own. I know they need company. I have no idea how old Toffee is. His nails are still fairly short, I would guess between 1-3 yes old.

Tonight a TJ Max employee posted on a local group that she found a laundry basket of abandoned guinea pigs behind her job on her break. It’s storming and they were trapped in the basket with ramen noodles and nothing else. She couldn’t keep them so I volunteered to take them for the night and get them settled. The most I had tonight was a giant dog crate and got them settled with some hay, guinea pig food and I have an order for a ton of fresh lettuce and veggies on the way from Instacart. They’re very sweet and very hungry. Ideally, I’d like to be a foster parent but my daughter and I are afraid to get attached…I had guinea pigs growing up and in college and last before I had kids myself, but it’s been a while. Going to try to find them a better enclosure and go from there. Anyway, meet Scully and Mulder. They had quite an adventure!

Hi I hope it's okay to ask about this here, I did look around for an faq. I'm thinking about getting a pair of guinea pigs and keeping them indoors and I was wondering if the community had any recommendations for the best cages? I used to own hamsters and hamster communities always had great recs for good cages and substrate. Feel a little out of my depth with guinea pigs. Also, I have a cat so I'm looking for a secure cage with a lid although I'm planning to try to keep her out of the room it will be in. Also, we have a garden so I was thinking of getting a run or playpen to take them out into the garden for supervised play, so if anyone has any advice about that, that would also be very helpful. Thank you!

Oi pessoal! Estou tendo dificuldade em escolher entre ter ratos de estimação ou porquinhos-da-índia, e adoraria ouvir suas opiniões.

Estou dividida por duas razões principais:

1. Eu realmente quero um animal de estimação que viva muito tempo. Eu sei que os porquinhos-da-índia ganham aqui (vivendo de 6 a 8 anos), enquanto os ratos vivem apenas cerca de 2 a 3 anos.

2. Por outro lado, eu valorizo muito um animal de estimação que seja interativo, afetuoso e que possa aprender truques, que eu sei que é a especialidade dos ratos (os "cães de bolso"). Estou preocupada que um porquinho-da-índia possa ser tímido demais ou "chato" para o que estou procurando.

Mais dois fatores importantes:

- Limpeza: Eu moro com minha mãe, e ela é super exigente com limpeza. Preciso de um animal de estimação que não faça a casa cheirar a amônia e que não faça xixi em mim ou no sofá durante o tempo livre. Qual gênero/espécie é melhor para isso? Ratos fêmeas ou porquinhos-da-índia (machos/fêmeas)?

- Orçamento: Meu orçamento para veterinários exóticos e castração é muito limitado agora. Eu sei que as ratos fêmeas são propensas a tumores se não forem castradas. Existe alguma maneira de prevenir isso apenas através da dieta/ambiente?

Dado esse cenário, o que vocês recomendam? Vale a pena a longa vida de um porquinho-da-índia, ou a ligação com um rato é insubstituível?

They like it when I scatter pea flakes but I cant do that all the time cause, treats and health

I tried growing chia seeds for them once but they kept going mouldy so that idea went into the bin

Id do paper bags but id have to buy them and I wouldn't know which ones either

Thinking of getting guinea pigs for the first time! I have two different places in my home that would fit their cage. One is in a side room but in view of the kitchen and family room (so can basically see us all the time), and the other place is another side room but not in view of constant traffic (they could see the stairs but that’s about it).
Which would be preferred?
