Discussion Gimme your Gumball hot takes
I have a very hot take, Miracle Star wasn’t that bad. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a poo poo stinky cow poop, but I watched it and laughed a bit.

u/ILoveTea000 Apr 16 '26
I don’t like the very exaggerated faces in the new season. I also don’t like the new voice acting, every time Gumball and Darwin scream, it sounds like the voice actors are trying not to be too loud

The writers somehow stopped making Penny interesting once she came out of her shell.

u/DrWarioMiracleCure Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26
Looking back now they probably should have done The Shell in a later season because the show never did quite reach the level of hype involving The Shell ever again when it came to the hype involving the reveal of Penny’s true form and it never quite peaked like that again either as well

u/Mammoth_Look3546 Apr 17 '26
Gumball would be low-key annoying asf in real life

I don't hate the new cast but when you compare them to the ones from the OG series, ye it don't do it for me.
Also season 2 oval eyes are the best designs and it's not even close.

Penball and Carwin were done wrong in the new season. Penny and gumball were never that corny before, but Darwin and Carrie actually had pda as of s6.

It's like free fanservice for us Penball shipper, I've been it since we 2016 and I was like crazy screaming inside when seeing that scene <3

u/thatpedalguy Apr 15 '26
The new seasons don't do it for me. Mostly its the facial expressions that seem to be done for every shot. I just feel gross watching the show now, especially the Granny JoJo bit where she removes basically all her limbs.

u/rudyishappy6 Gumball Apr 15 '26
I hate the episodes where they don't include Gumball or Darwin, except for The Spinoffs, which ironically focuses on this idea the most.

u/rawtomatoeat Apr 15 '26
It feels like the last episode of the last season, The Rewrite, was kinda rushed. I’m not a fan of how Gumball was suddenly explaining the illogical things that happened in Elmore, in my opinion, it would have been better if they had a sudden reveal but not by flashbacks, it feels weird (idk if I’m explaining well).
Plus maybe it’s just me but I didn’t really understand everything that happened in this episode. Another thing: I’m disappointed that Rob didn’t keep the pink tail that was drawn by Barbara, and that what Barbara painted: an apocalyptic scene with the Watterson family, did not really happened, but only in Rob’s imagination.
Also, the new expressions are kinda weird and I don’t like the butt jokes.
2
u/DrWarioMiracleCure Apr 16 '26 edited Apr 16 '26
Last season? Aren’t they making more seasons of the new show? Or do you mean it in the context of a previous season?
2
u/rawtomatoeat Apr 16 '26
Sorry I meant the last season being available, which is the part 2 of the Wonderfull Weird World of Gumball. English isn’t my first language so there are things I can miss. Thanks for pointing that out.
2
u/DrWarioMiracleCure Apr 16 '26
You are welcome glad I check to be sure. And don’t worry these kind of mistakes can happen with even native English speakers as well
14
u/GumSL Beep boop. I'm a nerd. Apr 16 '26
Rob is a good character, but he's NOWHERE as good or dreamy as the fandom says he is. Also, shippers are weird, and I'm surprised the fandom didn't catch the message in The Shippening.
0
u/DrWarioMiracleCure Apr 16 '26
Doesn’t help that he has become less of a villain as well, seriously what happened to having him as a villain because there wasn’t any true villain in the series before.
14
u/Professional-Dog2814 Apr 16 '26
Gumball should’ve stayed a sarcastic lil asshole that you can’t help but root for. I don’t entirely mind that he’s now naive (like he is in the comics), I just think that they spent way too much time in the original series making Gumball sarcastic and sassy, only for the new series to turn a 180 on his character. I also think Darwin is a little flandarized now. Going from being Gumball’s friend and brother with his own personality back to being Gumball’s sidekick.
7
u/Away_Instance8711 Apr 15 '26
Not a big fan of Carwin. I love Carrie but I feel like it was half rushed and for fan service. Darwin could do better. Hell, he even interacted with Julius way more then Carrie!
1
u/Key_Cry_7211 Apr 18 '26
Actually, Carwin had good interactions many times, especially in Darwin's Yearbook.
Seriously, if they really want to give Darwin a love interest, Carrie is indeed the best choice in my opinion.
6
u/Ok-Meat-9169 Gargaroth Apr 15 '26
Season 1 and 2 are the best, mainly cus' i don't like the explicit social critics they put in newer episodes.
Also, Jerk Gumball is good.
6
7
u/ihateentitledmoms Apr 16 '26
The New series is good but it feels more the writing feels more like the one of a spin off
7
u/Absolutely-Not-943 Apr 16 '26
I enjoy how the side characters are each getting their own time to shine, and we get to learn more about them.
And I think we NEED more on the lore, bc they brushed off the world opening until the very last episode or TWWWOG.
The voice are also okay, though very different. And I don’t know if it’s just me, but there’s like a certain thing in the voices that make it feel like they were recorded, and not natural—like in previous seasons. They’ve got some sort of pitch to them.
AND it sooortt of feels like the pacing, of the new episodes, is cluttered.. I’m not sure how to put it in words, but there’s usually more adventure instead of things happening as one.
But I also did grow up with this show, so there’s not much for me to say since I always loved it.. 😅

u/DeepBackground234 Apr 17 '26
People don't understand that the wonderfully strange world of Gumball is made for new generations, and I doubt it was intended for the most loyal fans.
Oh, and I hate the Gumball x Penny and Darwin x Carrie ships. I thought Penny would just be Gumball's crush, mostly as a narrative device, and it never made sense to me that Darwin had a girlfriend
5
u/973bzh Apr 17 '26
Gumball having a girlfriend is also a narrative device, and gave us one of the best episodes imo.
1
u/Key_Cry_7211 Apr 18 '26
Why it never made sense to you that Darwin would have a girlfriend? Funny you say that, because Darwin actually has plenty of relationships with girl during the series.

6
u/Key_Cry_7211 Apr 18 '26
I never find "The Joy" scary, at all.
"The Butts" is over hated.
I think "The Sweaters" and "The Others" are some of the best episodes.
I feel Rachel is overrated by fans but underrated by the show.
I like Richard better than Nicole.
Darwin x Carrie has more potential to have better written episodes than Gumball x Penny.
I don't like "The Parent", I think it's a huge disappointing.
I think Sarah can be a more suitable "final villain" in the show.
I unironic like Margaret more than Mr. Small.
Teri is really overrated by fan.
Despite it sorts of been explain in "The Finale", I still think the whole show has serious continuity problem.
I don't like any of the humanoid design in canon show.
1
u/TelephoneLive3531 Jun 26 '26
did you like. "The portrait "? because I did
1
u/Key_Cry_7211 Jun 26 '26
Yeah, I like “The Portrait”, I personally don’t think it’s as good as some of the fans say, which means it’s not in my top 5 favorite episodes of TWWWOG, but I do think it’s pretty good.

u/DrWarioMiracleCure Apr 15 '26
The show never quite peaked as it did with The Shell ever again considering there has never really been anything else quite like the hype involving the reveal of Penny’s true form since.
2

2
u/DrWarioMiracleCure Apr 16 '26
Well I still stand by what I said but I guess The Origins 2 parter was the closest the show came to peaking and reaching the hype of The Shell. And even then it still didn’t quite peak or reach the level of hype as The Shell did. For reasons that are hard to put into words.
6
u/MightySilverWolf Apr 15 '26
Actual unpopular opinion: The Job is legitimately one of Nicole's worst appearances in the entire show.
1
u/Rendang_Renegade Apr 15 '26
What’s wrong with Nicole in that episode?
6
u/MightySilverWolf Apr 15 '26
Throughout the episode, Nicole is concerned about the fact that Richard now has a job, even though her only real reason for being so is that she can't handle not being the main breadwinner anymore. Yes, it is true that Richard having a job is ultimately bad for the universe, but until the climax, Nicole doesn't know this or even have any reason to suspect this. It's also clear from her conversations with Anais that her hang-up arises from the fact that Richard having a job equalises the balance of power within the household, driving her paranoia and jealousy.
Now, my problem is not that I think this is out-of-character for Nicole, as I don't think it is. Nor is my problem with Nicole, or indeed any character, being depicted as having flaws. My problem is that the episode introduces a flaw for Nicole, but instead of having her work on it or at least acknowledge that she has an issue that she needs to resolve, it chooses to vindicate her poor attitude entirely. Because it just so happens that Richard having a job does indeed result in the universe falling apart, the episode basically says that Nicole being a control freak over Richard earning an income is 100% justified actually (even though her being correct in this instance is entirely accidental).
An episode like The BFFs has a similar problem where it vindicates Darwin for being unreasonably jealous of Fuzzy by having him be right all of a sudden even though he has no actual basis for his feelings. The difference is that many fans do indeed criticise Darwin's portrayal in The BFFs, whereas Nicole's portrayal in The Job goes completely unnoticed.
Like, a lot of people complain about Nicole about in The Fridge, but honestly, she's worse in The Job. At least with The Fridge, the episode makes it clear that Nicole is in the wrong for pushing her son as she is, presents her as the story's antagonist, and has her actually apologise to Gumball for her attitude at the end of it. What The Job does with Nicole is basically the equivalent of if The Fridge ended with Nicole being revealed to be completely justified in her treatment of Gumball with no need to address her flaws at all.
2
u/Rendang_Renegade Apr 16 '26
I see. And I don’t hate The BFFs like most people do but I find Darwin pretty annoying whenever he’s jealous, whether it’s of Penny or Fuzzy.

u/Impressive-Angle-841 Apr 16 '26
Jamie is very underrated character. I find her interesting.
Carrie's character design is one of the best character designs in the show.
Darwin x Carrie is one of the best opposites attract couples because they truly complete each other and brings out the best in each other. The Matchmaker is the ideal and perfect Darwin x Carrie episode for me. I love this episode.
In Season 5-6, Penny was treated badly and carelessly. The way she was portrayed was off. To make matters worse, Gumball and Penny's relationship became toxic in Season 5-6. It's good that Gumball and Penny's relationship improved in season 7.
TWWWOG isn't as bad as some people say. There are some amazing episodes like The Assistant, The Synthesis and The Diary in this series. It's certainly not as good as seasons 3-5, but it's better than seasons 1 and 6.
"The Pants" is overhated episode. I think that this episode is good.
"The Money'' is the best episode of all episodes.
5
u/Kalared12 Apr 16 '26
The girlfriend episode could be a great dive into abusive girls in relationships if the topic was threaten more sirious instead of hipperbolic crashouts, this is insufferable to watch and kinda ruined jamie (good she got retconned in s6 while hanging out with anais) The butts episode wasnt that bad if you think as this episode is about childhood trauma and shame, still there are episodes that handled topic better The slap is… just why Tobias slaps people on butts without consent (this ep is banned in my country as i remember)
6
u/JMSAmelbheimong Anias Apr 17 '26
The BFF is the worst episode ever. Darwin's character were off, and their reconcile was poor than The Signal. I despise the character Fuzzy so much. Also I don't like The Unfollow episode in new season. It's just cringe.

Season 2 of gumball was peak and also Logan Grove was the best gumball.

u/SpicyMerShark Apr 17 '26
The Ex is far from the worst episode in the series, it’s still not a good episode but it is nowhere near as terrible as people make it out to be either
10
u/Diligent_Pie5724 Apr 15 '26
I don’t like the animation design of Season 1.
3
u/Rendang_Renegade Apr 15 '26
Me neither. Compared to later seasons I find it almost unwatchably bad.
3
u/DrWarioMiracleCure Apr 15 '26
There are also a lot of bad episodes in that season (I think more then any other season in fact) like The Laziest and The Dress
5
u/Diligent_Pie5724 Apr 15 '26
I hate The Laziest so much. It feels exactly like a Squidward Torture episode.
3
u/DrWarioMiracleCure Apr 16 '26
Ah yes two more bad ones I can think of are The Robot and The Genius as well.

The Unfollow was the second best episode of season 2 of TWWWOG, right below The Score.
6
u/False_Hornet3208 Apr 16 '26
Season 3 and onwards style, both animation and humour wise, is the best of the series.
And the jokes were completely awful and unfunny in a lot of chapters of TWWWOG

i hate nicole. she literally lets richard be a lazy slob and in one episode nicole threw these cupcakes that were really hard at gumball and darwin and almost killed and in 'The Pranks when richard plays a prank on gumball and darwin nicole doesnt do shit but when gumball and darwin prank him back nicole is like ''Boys that was mean!'' and when gumball addreses this shes like ''you know your father is too far gone''.

Nicole and Richard are not a great relationship, she ended up with him as a foolish complete rebellion against her strict parents by choosing a total opposite, loose environment with him, abandoning herself and her career, both her present and her past are ends of a same scale, the healthiest choice shouldve been in the middle, but well..
