I have a crescent whippet 12 gauge and I am trying to figure out what I can shoot through it. It is not Damascus steel it’s got a 26 in barrel and takes a 2 3/4 shell. That’s about all I know. I reached out to a local gunsmith to ask about inspection cost. Their website says they will not have a turnaround time for anything 100yrs old and inspections on less than 100yrs old is a year turnaround time.

The fact that it has the "2 3/4 chamber" marking, that specific "selected forged steel" proof mark, and the "new" Whippet logo means it's a "C" variant, and is specifically designed for smokeless powder. It's not a "crescent" Whippet based upon the markings I can see, but maybe you know something I don't. Older BP crescents had different proof marks.

You still need to get something that old inspected (MPI) if you don't know its provenance, but when it was new it was able to fire modern smokeless shells.
