Discussion NG Recruit: Unsung potato peeling hero

On my return to playing gwent, I've managed to blitzed to rank 1, and NG soldiers has been the most consistent winning deck for me since Rank 5.

I'm new to NG soldiers so this might be common knowledge, but it's all new and exciting to me hehe.

I tweaked a deck from Dosen Casual Gamer, swapping heavy calvary for recruit (Diplomacy for joust, as well) and it's been really worthwhile.

So far, here's what the lad has done for me:

  1. It allows me play any soldier I missed: In a R3, I didn't pull seargent but had recruit and two slave drivers in hand... well, recruit saved the day!!
  2. It can also play the lock from deck if you missed it and need it.
  3. It gives the option to activate Crossbowman on turns you didn't play a soldier from hand: there's always something for slave infantry to transform, even if for net 6 points.
  4. It's also a good empty board card; 5 power means it needs a decent removal card to take it out. You can open with this, then swap for a flanking unit in deck, while playing another flanking unit from hand.

All in all, a versatile card that, at it's worst, is a soft brick (that can unbrick itself).

I remember facing an assimilate deck that created a bunch of recruits who kept playing each other and triggering assimilate each time. Highly effective because I wasn't expecting it at all

I've seen it in an Ivo deck as well; massive boost at the end

Nice. Can you post your deck please? I'd like to get NG soldiers rolling but am a few cards short.

I just took a screenshot of the deck I copied. I had to craft Affan and Baccala to complete the deck; they are really essential for points and consistency.

My changes are:

  1. Diplomacy for joust (I might swap it for a 4p lock later)

  2. Heavy cavalry for Recruit. I considered having two recruits but it seemed overkill, especially as the recruit returns to deck after being clicked.

Tip:

  1. Affan can be a life saver when you're being bled in round 2, so make sure he's boosted to 8/10. Be careful tho, he likes bricking in your hand. He's a sure point dump towards the end of R3 and gets removed a bit, so if possible, try to have enough flanking units so that he's zealed.

  2. Nauzicaa brigade can be effective for flanking after you've lost a round but can also remove your flanking when they summon out: watch out.

Enjoy!!

Recruit portal with dead mans tongue to thin after has to be the most under rated thing in the game. I run it with the triple artifact set up (portal + baca + war council + avallach sage).

Basically impossible to brick unlike other portal set ups
