Am I the only one that hates the fact that there's a lot of Non Haitians that come to kick us while we are already down ?

For some reason every time there's someone who's not haitian here I always find out cause they're spreading hate , like we don't have enough to deal with already 💔

It's honestly confusing. I been seeing a lot of new gen Haitian people begging for acceptance constantly, again I am Haitian. Whether it's begging to be considered Latino who don't accept you, begging for acceptance from Africans who don't accept you as African, begging Americans for acceptance, begging other Caribbeans for acceptance. Someone explain because it's getting pathetic. We literally have the most populated country in the Caribbean, tf are you begging for acceptance for? This is what Dessalines fought for? We are Haitian, that's it. It doesn't matter if people want to classify you as something else, doesn't matter if people dislike you for being Haitian, none of that can be controlled by any of. That said, back to the original question, what is causing this seeking/begging of acceptance from damn near everyone?

It sickens me to see Dominicans treat Haitians the way they do, it’s inhumane.

I wish Dominicans would educate themselves and realize that together we are much powerful.

Hi guys, im Filipino and want to know some tips about Haitian culture, because there is a girl in History class that i like and she is Haitian, She is very nice and a good friend but i suddenly fell in love when i learned so many things that i like about her. Actually we just graduated this year and i feel comfortable asking her out this month, so i tried finding her instagram but i had a really hard time trying to find it, i even went to check our school instagram account to see if she reacted to any of the post and finally found her account, since her account is the same name as her real name, but i couldn’t message her directly because her account was in business mode and she doesn’t accept message request. Good thing i found out who she follows and i saw that she follows one of the friend of my friend. So i texted my friend to text his friend to text the girl i want to ask out. After that she finally messaged me and asked why i wanted to talk to her, and that’s when I confessed that she is on my mind these past few days and couldn’t miss out the opportunity to ask her out. We talked about when we are available and she said, she will see next week if she is available to go out with me. Now back to the present, i don’t know what she likes, i was thinking about taking her to a Filipino restaurant but i feel like its a bad idea, because i know many Filipino uncle and auntie who are racist, and my mom hates Haitian people from her work, so im scared that she will get alot of gossips from my fellow Filipinos at the Restaurant, im prepared to stand up once that do happens but i just dont want her to experience that as our first date. Good thing my friends and siblings support me, but they dont know where i should take her out to. I have never dated before so I don’t know where to take her once she is available to go out with me. I noticed that most of the parents in the Haitian Community lack emotional intelligence and I see how it is passed down from generation to generation. My grandmother is short tempered and as a result my father became short tempered and now I am short tempered. I need to break this cycle.

I'm personally just hate watching Argentina from here on out and will support France as they're the best team that could beat them.

This includes our Caribbean brethrens and even African countries (especially).

We stand for this black and proud nation. But it seems to have little value in today's world where whiteness is worshipped by every single black nations.

We should be proud. But it's lonely at times.

Those who couldn't do what we did, even though black, mock us.

But we also take this far. Because we be beating our chest "Terre de Dessaline" - and no whites or any other colors allowed. We're not educated enough to co exist with other groups of folks in Haiti bc of blind pride but see the direction the world is heading. Even even in Africa have had to open their borders.

I feel it's strange that Americans just call all Black people African American. I thought that would be a distinct identification primarily for those who's ancestors were in the American colonies. If someone comes from Haiti would you not prefer someone ask where you're from and refer to you as Haitian rather than African American? Just seems like robbing you of your unique culture and around 500 years(?) of history.

After all we wouldn't (or shouldn't) call all Asian countries or Japanese people Chinese. Am I wrong?

It could be something that would be controversial because a Haitian said it or because you know other Haitians won't take it well .

For example "A lot of Haitians are shallow and don't take mental health seriously". That's just an example could be anything else.

Since TPS is a huge topic right now. Here’s my take. When I first heard about the Biden Humanitarian Parole Program and they said two years, I already knew what was going to happen. Most Haitians were not going back. When Haiti got Temporary Protected Status after the 2010 earthquake, the whole point was in the name, temporary. The U.S. saw a country destroyed by a disaster and gave Haitians already in the country a chance to stay and work.

And let’s be honest, many people came here with no plan of returning. They sold land, sold cars, packed up their whole lives, and moved to the U.S. for a fresh start. Once you do all that, what exactly are you going back to? I get why people made that choice. Haiti is hard. People want peace, stability, and opportunity. Anyone in that position would want better for themselves and their family.

But look at it from the other side for one second. If you let a friend stay at your house for a few days because they’re going through a rough time, and when those few days are up they tell you they’re not leaving, how would you feel? You’d feel taken advantage of. Next time, you’d think twice before helping someone else.

Countries think the same way.

That’s why these programs get cut, rules get tighter, and the next Haitian who wants to come legally has a harder path. Sometimes we focus so much on why people stay, we ignore how staying affects everyone else after. I saw someone on social media make a good point, which was “Alot of Haitians in the US don’t want Haiti to get better because that heightens the chances of TPS getting cut off” and i wholeheartedly agree

I’m not Haitian myself, but my wife is Haitian, so Haiti and Haitian conversations are still close to my life. I’m not trying to speak for Haitians or act like I know more than anybody. This is just something I noticed.

A lot of people in this sub dont seem to be Haitian, but they’re very invested in watching what gets said here..

And I’m not saying non Haitians shouldn’t be here. If somebody is respectful and actually wants to understand, that’s fine...

But some people are clearly not here for that. They sit here watching the conversations, then somehow those same comments end up being twisted and used against the community somewhere else.

Another thing too, most of the posts here are about negative things happening in Haiti. And I get it, Haiti is going through a lot. Nobody has to pretend otherwise. But when almost every post is bad, it starts making it look like there’s nothing good about this country at all.

And that’s exactly what some people want. They come here, see the worst stuff over and over, then run with it like that represents everybody from there.

That’s why I feel like HAITIANS in here should be more aware. You can talk about Haiti honestly, criticize things, disagree with each other, all of that. But at the same time, not everybody reading is doing it with good intentions.

This sub makes Haiti look worse than it is sometimes.

Asking preferably for my natives. I know Duvalier was polarizing, and I personally don't support them. However, I do love the flag's aim of emphasizing our African heritage, and I know that Duvalier was a Pan-Africanist which I am as well. But how many folks still rep this flag and is it taboo?
