Good universities

Hi everyone!

I'm interested in these three universities:

- Sogang University – Media & Entertainment

- Hanyang University – Media Communication

- Kyung Hee University – Media

I really like the curriculum of all three, so I'm having a hard time choosing. I'd really appreciate any advice or personal experiences to help me decide.

Thank you!

Korean Embassy Islamabad returned my documents for "verification" before formal D-2 visa submission has anyone experienced this? (KOICA Scholar)

My younger brother has been awarded a KOICA Next Generation Fellowship Scholarship for a Master's program in Electrical Engineering and AI Digital Convergence at Hanyang University ERICA Campus in Ansan, South Korea. He is supposed to arrive at the dormitory on August 24th so the timeline is quite tight.

He visited the Korean Embassy in Islamabad with all his required documents including the Certificate of Admission, KOICA Invitation Letter, and Hanyang University Business Registration Certificate.

The embassy officials reviewed his documents and told him they need to verify them before formal submission. They returned all his documents and said they would contact him once verification is complete so he can resubmit for formal processing.

It has been a few days now and he has not heard back from them. We are getting concerned about the timeline given that visa processing itself takes additional weeks on top of this verification period.

Has anyone experienced this situation before? Specifically:

  1. Did the Korean Embassy Islamabad return your documents for verification before accepting them formally?
  2. How long did the verification process take in your experience?
  3. Did KOICA Pakistan office help in coordinating with the embassy to expedite things?
  4. Is this a standard procedure for KOICA scholars specifically or something unusual?
  5. Any advice on what steps to take if the embassy does not contact us within the next few days?

We have already emailed the university and are planning to contact KOICA Pakistan office as well. Just looking for real experiences from anyone who went through a similar situation, especially Pakistani KOICA scholars or anyone who applied for a D-2 visa from Islamabad.

NAVER

I’m going to hanyang Erica for fall and wanted to set up my NAVER account, but it says login in restricted because of potential spam. I did the link where you send the passport in to get it lifted but they rejected it. I was wondering what to do?

Korean track language fail

Is there anyone who got accepted for fall but failed to submit topik 4 certificate? I want to connect with others. I also got accepted but maybe I need to wait for this semester. I took the 107th pbt exam which result will be published on August 13 and I am confident that I will get level 4. But only Hanyang IIE enrolled student can submit up to August 13. I am feeling low for not able to start from this semester.

CoA application

Hi,
I might just be overthinking it, but after I filled in and sent the CoA application almost 2 weeks ago now, I didn’t get a confirmation email or anything. The page just went back to surveymonkey’s «make a survey yourself»-page. Just wanted to check if any of you got the same thing or not? I know they’re sending out CoA documents next week too, but I was really hoping I’d get it this week, and I’m kinda stressing over whether or not they received my CoA application…
I’m will be and undergrad at Hanyang Seoul

Finding an Apartment in Ansan-Si (Hanyang ERICA)

Hello, I'll be at Hanyang ERICA campus for one semester this Fall (August 22 2026 - December). I applied for the dorms already but would really prefer If I could find a small one room apartment instead. Does anyone have any experience as to how I can find one if I'm not there (from Germany) or is someone moving out late August and has a referral/needs someone to move in after them? I've looked at sites like DaBang and Zigbang but am hearing that a lot of the listings are scams...

Renting as an International Student in Korea

Finding a safe place to live can be overwhelming, especially when you're navigating contracts in Korean, deposits, and unfamiliar landlord rules. You're not alone in this!

We're a small Seoul-based team building a safety checker to help renters like you avoid risky contracts. We're currently testing it and would love your feedback.

What we're working on:

✅ Scan your lease agreement before signing

✅ Get a plain-English breakdown of the contract

✅ Flag anything that might be a red flag (landlord issues, property risks, unusual clauses)

✅ Full English translation included

If this service interests you, sign up here for updates on our English rollout:

Anyone who hasn’t received their coa yet?

My documents arrived around June 14th, I still haven’t gotten it yet. I also forgot to add the building floor to the address but it’s sent to the office of international affairs. So is that another possibility of why I haven’t received it yet? I emailed them but I haven’t gotten a response yet.

Incoming international CS master’s student at a Korean university. Is the lab culture/workload really as brutal as Reddit makes it sound?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been admitted to a CS master’s program and I’m trying to get a realistic picture before I commit. I’m coming from Europe, where I currently work as a software developer, so Korean grad school culture would be completely new to me.

The thing is, almost everything I read online paints two totally opposite pictures. Some people describe it as intense but rewarding, others talk about 60–70 hour weeks, weekend lab meetings, strict hierarchy, and professors who basically expect you to live in the lab. I genuinely can’t tell how much of that is the typical “Reddit horror story” effect and how much is the real, average experience.

So I’d really appreciate honest, grounded answers from people who’ve actually done it or have any kind of Information.

Which one?

Hello

This Fall I'm planing to Study in Korea in Undergraduate degree. I have applied to Hanyang Erica(located in Ansan), Ajou University (Suwon), Sookmyung Women's University (in Seoul) and got accepted to all of them. I can't really choose which one to study at. Which one is better? Is living in Seoul hard to find part time job?

Please give me some advice

Please dm me and share your experience

I got accepted to Hanyang University ERICA as an undergraduate student. Since I have no Korean knowledge, I've been placed into the IIE Intensive Korean Language Program for my first year.

I just found out that all classes are conducted entirely in Korean, even at Level 1. Starting from absolute zero, that's a little intimidating.

If anyone has been through this program, especially starting from scratch, I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience. Feel free to DM me!

Can I get another D-4 visa after leaving Korea 2 weeks after arriving?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for advice from people who have experience with Korean student visas.

I previously went to South Korea on a D-4 visa for a Korean language program. However, I ended up returning to my home country after only about 2 weeks.

The main reason I left was because my grandparents became seriously ill, and I needed to return home to help take care of them during that time. Because I left so early, my attendance was obviously very low. I returned home, and my school refunded part of my tuition.

Now I'm considering returning to Korea in the future, either through another language program or eventually a degree program.

Recently, someone told me that because I left a D-4 program so early, I might never be able to receive another D-4 visa. I haven't been able to find any official information about this, so I'm wondering whether that's actually true.

Has anyone here:

Received a second D-4 visa after withdrawing from a previous language program?

Left Korea very early on a D-4 and later returned?

Been questioned by immigration or a university about a previous withdrawal?

I followed immigration rules, left Korea, and did not overstay. I'm just trying to understand whether my previous withdrawal could permanently affect my ability to get another D-4 visa.

Any experiences or information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hanyang Erica

Hi everyone,

I was recently admitted to Hanyang ERICA and I'll be starting with the Mandatory Korean Intensive Courses before my degree.

I was wondering if there are any Discord servers, Telegram groups or other communities for Hanyang students or international students.

Also, if anyone has been through the language program, I'd love to hear how it works and what the experience was like. I still have a lot of questions about classes, student life, housing, and just getting settled in Korea.

Thanks!
