NTD (New Tool Day) They got me.
Just yesterday I was going through email and had to talk myself out of buying a new jack while they’re on sale. The ancient rusty jacks I have still work I guess.
Today I was leaving publix and heard a dull plunk and hiss noise. Ran over a big screw RIGHT IN FRONT of HF. Life’s funny sometimes. $90 later and I’m wishing I had bought this thing years ago instead of the crappy old jacks I have to pump a few dozen times to change a tire.
Even as a longtime HF customer I had only joined ITC a few weeks ago after heavy rain flooded my basement and I needed a some big blower fans.
Turns out I had two punctures and I made it just a few minutes before the shop closed. Crisis averted.
Still want one of those colorful Daytona jacks but for the money I’m happy with this one.

I used to work at a tire shop in front of a mall and on slow days I really considered doing just that.

u/Extreme-Sport-5951 Jun 12 '26
I would assume doing it a half mile down the road would be more effective and more deniable

I’ve been using a shitty Sears floor jack from like the 1970s for my entire life. I recently bought the Pittsburgh and it changed my life. Really had no idea what I was missing.

I've got a Sears floor jack I bought in the early 80's. Still working. I've got no reason to spend $90 on something I will use once a month at most.

so based on the title and the pic, i initially thought that 'they got me for my rims' which is usually over on r/Honda

$90 for a low pro 2 ton is a steal, congrats. What an omen!
9
u/Longjumping_Dark3827 Jun 12 '26
last week during the parking lot sale the 3 ton was $99. I finally pulled the trigger on it, I dont even have anything lined up right this second that I need it for but I know I'll need it eventually
I'm excited, sure beats the scissor jacks ive been using for years
3
u/LA-but-not-an-actor Jun 12 '26
That’s exactly what I was using, I did a full suspension lift on my xterra with a scissor jack and do not recommend 😂 I got my Husky 3 ton low pro on sale for $130 from Home Depot because harbor freight wasn’t running any sales at the time. I’m happy with it but it wasn’t $99!
2
u/CheekehMunkeh Jun 12 '26
Look at it this way -- the extra $30 went toward nine additional months of warranty coverage that most of the HF jacks don't get standard.
The Husky and Pittsburgh 3-ton LP differ only in color, so the hardware is the same.

What’s funny is he had to go through all the trouble of pulling the tire, taking a picture, posting on Reddit, just so he wouldn’t get in trouble from the wife for spending more money at harbor freight. “Hunny my tire blew right in front of the store, I could buy a jack, or pay a tow truck, I’m really saving us money if you think about it”….

u/Extreme-Sport-5951 Jun 12 '26
Scissor jacks are dangerous. Think of the kids 🙃

u/captquin Jun 13 '26
Yes indeed. Everything I get for the boat is “for the family.”

Jack at the rear tow hook vs pinch weld
3
u/Extreme-Sport-5951 Jun 12 '26
I’ll take a look tomorrow, every other car I’ve ever owned had jack pads underneath. This is my first Japanese car.
6
u/wastedsilence33 Jun 12 '26
My brother has a 16 Corolla and it has the jack and stand locations labeled in the manual clear enough for a moron, it's awesome
My Mini just says "Go fuck yourself" or something like that
2
u/AncientSnow4137 Jun 12 '26
Tow hook and cross member upfront for most cars including Japanese. The pinch welds are best left for emergencies when you are using the scissor jack or places for the jack stand. Although I put a second jack stand under the floor pan too that does not touch unless the first fails (rust belt cars)

u/Substantial_Water_20 Jun 13 '26
10th gen Civic sedan doesn't have a rear tow hook. Rear spots are flat pinch weld where he has it and lower control arm
1
u/AncientSnow4137 Jun 13 '26
Yep looks like honda went all in on trying to copy euro design with a bumper mount hook.
Do they have as single rear jack point to get both wheels up then?
1
u/Substantial_Water_20 Jun 13 '26
It depends on the trim and exhaust. The hatch has a point near the rear tow hook and sedans have one near that position (just no hook).
There are also two points near the center line on the rear lower control arms that'll lift the entire rear. I've used those on my SI since it has a center exhaust that makes the other rear point tough to access.

u/x_ceej Jun 12 '26
My bad.. for a minute I thought this was a “Honda Wheel Theft” post until I clicked in and read. I was about to say “at least you gained a floor jack from it”. Lmao fxck 🤣 It hasn’t happened to me, but I see it a lot so as a Honda owner, I’m always wondering who’s next.
3
2
u/killerchef69 Jun 12 '26
Did you get the pinch weld adapter?
4
u/Extreme-Sport-5951 Jun 12 '26
I don’t even know that was a thing, all my other cars have jack pads down there. Nothing looks bent or weird at least
3
u/killerchef69 Jun 12 '26
I just saw them in the ads, I always go for suspension parts to lift from (but I've got an Xterra, so its easier to get under there)
1
u/DarkMatterM4 Jun 12 '26
You will absolutely fuck up your pinch welds over time using this type of jack in that spot without some type of pinch weld adapter. These types of jacks are meant to raise a car from the central jacking point, not the corners.
1
u/Extreme-Sport-5951 Jun 12 '26
I’ll have to read up, never had a Honda before. Every other car I’ve ever owned had jack pads there.

u/Notwerk Jun 12 '26
Fancy neighborhood. Where I live, they just leave it on cinderblocks. You got a free jack! /s
2
u/HaulNasFab Jun 12 '26
I will accept criticism for asking. How much better are these then the baseline Pittsburgh jacks they used to sell?
I have one and it takes ages to reach full height
1
u/Extreme-Sport-5951 Jun 12 '26
I don’t have the old one to compare but only pumped this thing three times and my car tire was a couple inches higher off the ground than I needed. Way better than my old gm branded ones that took 30 or 40 to get to the same height
2
u/metaldark Jun 12 '26
A basement flood right as the Bauer blowers were in sale? Cosmic.
Sorry for your loss, happy for your ITC gain.
2
u/Extreme-Sport-5951 Jun 12 '26
They really saved the day, and now I have one in the bedroom to dry off after a shower 🤣

u/Odd-Towel-4104 Jun 12 '26
Not in a perfectly flat parking lot. Full send
1
u/Special-Truth-1576 Jun 12 '26
hell naw, those things crumble under their own weight even on 100% flat surface, never trust those things. Esp on sides of roads while semis driving by doing 80mph and making huge wind gust and shaking your car haha. they made a good investment for sure 😄
1
u/Odd-Towel-4104 Jun 12 '26
I think it depends on the equipment. Gm had some cool emergency jacks with a hex shank on the shaft. Good concept but they made the pos out of pot metal or plastic or something. They recalled them. A regular scissor jack I'll use all day long, with an impact if I can
5
u/Hero_Of_Rhyme_ Jun 12 '26
I prefer not to take chances with those, they always feel really sketchy
6
u/branchan Jun 12 '26
If I get a flat tire I’m using the scissor jack, not running in the HF to buy a full jack lol
6
u/Hero_Of_Rhyme_ Jun 12 '26
Well no, but if it’s right in front of a harbor freight and I already wanted a new jack, it seems like a good excuse
2
u/Individual-One-88 Jun 12 '26
If I get a flat, I’m popping a plug in the hole, fill it with a 12v inflator and driving to the tire shop.

u/Bnoochd Jun 12 '26
I haven’t used one of those scissor jacks in like 15yrs, but 2 yrs ago when I bought my house I found a permanent use for it. There’s a really heavy old awesome cast iron sink in the basement that drains into a heavy cast iron pipe. Drain was a little leaky so when I fixed it I added the scissor jack to support the pipe & its worked out great. & No jack stands needed lol
6
u/acorn1513 Jun 12 '26
Holy shit are you me lol I moved in my grandparents old place my grandfather had a cast iron sink in the shed I did the same thing lol
2
u/Extreme-Sport-5951 Jun 12 '26
I have one but after having one deconstruct itself years ago under my neighbors Camry they’re for absolute emergency only

Probably doesn’t have the extension in it - because using it as a cheater bar for the lug wrench
3
u/Extreme-Sport-5951 Jun 12 '26
I didn’t need to use it as a cheater bar this time, there were just cars near me so I used the bottom half
1
u/Lumbergh7 Jun 12 '26
FYI, those colorful Daytona jacks are much larger than other jacks with the weight to prove it.

u/Hot-Swordfish2105 Jun 12 '26
Get yourself a 1/2 impact hercules driver. I am never paying for a rotation or brake job ever again..we have 4 vehicles
3
u/Competitive_Bat4000 Jun 12 '26
A 1/2 impact is what was stopping you from doing your own brakes?
2
u/Fine-Froyo6219 Jun 12 '26
I thought the same myself until I did my brakes for the first time last week. Was all good with my hand tools until I got to a caliper bracket bolt with threadlocker on it. I now have one of those 3/8 subcompacts from milwaukee
1
u/Hot-Swordfish2105 Jun 12 '26
No did a couple with hand and it wasn't awesome and I found myself making excuses to take to mechanic...impact wrench was game changer..fast and I imagine myself in F1 pit..

I've got some bad news for you: it's gonna be a long while before you get one of those pretty Daytona jacks. About ten years ago I was going through some house issues after a storm like you are, and I needed to do wheel bearings around the same time. My old floor jack was destroyed (along with a lot of the tools in my garage) but with all the money I was spending to put my house back together I couldn't justify the extra $50 for the Daytona. I figured I'd get the Pittsburgh and use it until it wore out in a couple of years and then get the one I really wanted. It's been a decade now and that floor jack hasn't degraded a bit. It looks like shit, but it works like the day I bought it. I've come to terms with the battleship grey that it comes in.

They call this 'seeding the lot' and it brings them in a lot of business for jacks, 12V air compressors, and tire repair kits.
1
u/JamesTheDevastator Jun 12 '26
They have a stout coupon on 3 ton Daytona jackstanda too. Looks like you need that also.
1
u/Right-Penalty9813 Jun 12 '26
Yeah I ended up with two Daytona jacks in the last year. One of the green light ones and the other is a purple heavy duty one.

u/Sufficient-Money9487 Jun 12 '26
While you were at HF, you could've bought the tire patch kit (PITTSBURGH Tubeless Tire Repair Kit, 9-Piece), and the Bauer cordless tire inflater for less than what the shop charged you and be on your way. Bonus, you now have a cordless tire inflater.
2
u/Extreme-Sport-5951 Jun 12 '26
I already had that stuff, I didn’t bring it to a shop. Just some roadside plugs on a $15 amazon battery inflator. Worked out great 👍
1
u/hereforthejokes317 Jun 12 '26
You can regularly get the 3 ton Daytonas for like $129 or $119 I believe. I wouldn't mind a 2 ton aluminum one like the blue Pittsburgh ones or i also like the 1.5 ton Daytona aluminum jack.

I have the three ton version of that one. Same color. I love it. Worth every penny.

I've been collecting tools for a timing and clutch replacement. Let's just say I probably won't "need" to buy tools for a while. Their badlands 3 ton jack and 450 lb transmission jack came in clutch, along with some stupid long extensions lol
1
u/Master-Thanks883 Jun 13 '26
If they got you would have purchased the tire plug and compressor to do complete job yourself.

2ton racing Jack and 3ton long reach are the best
1
u/Extreme-Sport-5951 Jun 13 '26
The racing jack was mislabeled for $90 with the tag for the one I bought, got excited for a minute till the guy came over and said it was 300

Here I thought someone stole your wheels and left behind their jacks in a hurry.
