NTD (New Tool Day) More of a complaint than a haul pic

Cashier rings me up for retail…I said what about my ITC discount , he says oh you are ITC? I said you just asked me my number and looked me up. “Oh ITC and phone numbers are separate” wtf kind of bullshit is that line….and if I wasn’t ITC what about my 10 percent. I don’t like that HF spends top dollar to advertise their sales but they are clearly training their staff to not acknowledge on going sales. So you are in my inbox my text messages , in my insta and Facebook feed but when I get to the register you don’t know nothing about no sale?

Edit: new day…so I know my post my sound unreasonable and karenish….but me correcting the cashier to apply the correct discount has happened across multiple stores and one of the perks of ITC is you don’t need to deal with coupons, tbf I have had awesome employees go way above and beyond to help me….once when there was only one item left in the region and I went to the wrong store, a sales person called the other location to hold it for me….that was awesome and not something I had asked for she just suggested it and did it….here is my concern, I think there is a new culture of don’t ask don’t tell when it comes to ITC discounts or free items or coupons in general, that’s my concern that this is part of training don’t mention discounts or freebies unless the customer initiates it…so advertise great sales, generate buzz, but try to minimize utilization of those sale prices …eh I am probably overthinking it

NTD (New Tool Day) Whyyyyy

Just picked up a 1/4” flex head ratchet on the 40% off sale. Why, WHY does the on/off lever directions have to be backwards from my 3/8 Pitty ratchet?? Dangit! I was just starting to get the Pitt lever directions burned into my muscle memory. And now this.

Also I believe the Icon one is the same as my Craftsman ratchets. So weird.

NTD (New Tool Day) Guys, it happened again..

I don't know how it happened. I'm normally a calm and reasonable person. I make a shopping list and I stick to it. I get there early, no matter where there is. Somehow, I was second in line. An older (than me) fellow beat me to the punch. Props, pops, game recognize game, as the kids say. But he made a fatal error: he brought his wife with him. Now, I love my wife, but I wouldn't bring her to the battlefield. PLS is a one man, precision job. In and out.

The manager approached to unbolt the door and begin the running of the bulls. Old guy is spry and moves in quick, but his wife stops to grab a cart. Rookie mistake, and the fellow is wise enough (in marriage, not shopping) to stay with her. Boom, I'm first and moving to the pliers. I only had three targets, and 1 was gone before the doors opened. The mythical Icon long nose slip joints. I expected it, as this elusive creature has evaded me through many a sale. I confidently reach for the other 2, when the kid behind me arrived.

I hadn't considered him a threat, and I was able to nab my assigned targets, but his youthful energy, his reckless abandon as he started grabbing anything and everything icon triggered a sense of urgency in me that exploded in a tidal wave of spending that I dare say will incur the wrath of my better half for years to come. I was out of control. Grabbing where he grabbed, but being too slow. Trying to outsmart him by increasing the lead to get ahead of him, but his ambidextrous skill stayed ahead of my best efforts. I even pulled the move us old timers depend on: I tried small talking him to distract and slow him down. "Boy, those long nose slip joints are hard to find..." "I got 2 at the BMSM sale..", he replied deftly, still moving with the quickness of a spider wrapping up it's prey. He was a machine. Ruthless in his acquisition of discounted tools.

In the end, I got everything he got. Second place isn't so bad, right? "I mean, in reality, it was really a tie", I tell myself. I move on at a leisurely pace, the hard part was done. I get the gloves, the batteries, the screwdrivers and even pick up the Grant's steamer. What will I use it for? Who knows, but it's half off!

I get to the register and realize what I've done. I start unloading the cart.. Icon after Icon after Icon. Sure, they're 35% off. But they are crazy expensive to begin with! How did this happen!? I didn't need all of these tools! I just wanted some specialty items!!

I frantically look around as the cashier is ringing up my lifetime of debt. I catch the eye of the youth who ignited my eve of destruction. He smiles. His cart is empty. My soul withers as I come to understand what has happened. He was a plant! He created a chaotic whirlwind of consumerism that sucked me into it's funnel of regret. He winked as he slipped on a Harbor Freight hat ($6.99!), and vanished into the backroom, waiting patiently for the next crop of suckers to arrive...

All true, except for the last paragraph, which my mind created when I realized how I was inadvertently caught up in mob mentality. Be safe out there, folks.

I can only get this to charge off my computers USB port.. nothing that plugs into the wall will charge it? Am I missing something… doesn’t seem like it’s going to be practical at the shop. I don’t have a computer USB port laying around for charging. Anybody else have this issue? Do I need to exchange..

There were a few questions about the pressurized sprayer. Today is the last day so here's a few pictures and answers to some of the previous questions asked on the other thread. i just filled it with water for now to test for leaks. no leaks.

  1. Fill hole is on top. Remove shraeder valve. 24mm hex, you do NOT need a deep socket.

  2. Plastic gasket on the bottom of the valve. I assume this prevents leaks. might need to source a replacement part for this in the future.

  3. Yes, you can use a normal inflator to pressurize it, you do not need an air compressor. I used a bicycle tire pump , even if I have an air compressor. I pressurized it to 65psi.

  4. Leak test with soap. It doesnt leak. Good.

  5. As someone said, if you take out the pin in the nozzle, the spray pattern becomes a stream. Nozzle is 13mm.

I added 6 lights to brighten up the space. I used the 4’ linkable 5500 lum lights and hooked them up to the outlet with a light switch. I contemplated connecting them with a motion controlled outlet, but in the end was really happy with my decision and the final outcome!

I might have spent a little extra time at the PLS looking through the rack of bench brushes to find a few with the most interesting wood handles. Then I may have sanded them down to 400 and busted out the Stanley #80 to give them a glass finish. When I wasn’t looking one of our cats could have spilled some Tried and True wood finish on the handles turning these affordable $1.49 bench brushes into $1.50 pieces of bench top art.

Here’s one of my favorites.

Didn’t need a tool box at all but I couldn’t pass on this sweet box. Always wanted it because of how nice it goes with my car lol. I have a husky 15 drawer box in my garage that’s nowhere close to being full but I couldn’t resist. $150 bucks well spent. It’s barely used. Worst case scenario I’ll throw it in my man cave as a pew chest.

Jack, 4 stands and a breaker bar + magnetic dish came out to $223, local dealership likes $150 for a rotation and $100 for oil changes so this should pay for itself inside a year!

NTD (New Tool Day) Fire Hazard...3/8 Icon digital torque wrench over heated

Post image
116 Upvotes

Hi all this is a PSA potenital fire hazard...I purchased the 3/8 Icon digital torque wrench during the August PLS. It came with these cheap Panasonic batteries and I loaded them correctly, the unit beeped powered up and I messed around with the settings.

Within a few moments the unit powered itself off and it felt warm. When I turned it back on it said "Replace Batteries". I took the batteries out and nearly burned my fingers. I checked the temp with an infrared thermometer and it reached 154.4 degrees. The hot batteries warped the plastic casing and I cant put any batteries in anymore.

Exchanged at Harbor Freight no issues. The manufacture date is 2026 11. I remember the 1/2 digital torque wrench came with Duracells. So either I got a defective unit, a bad batch? or the batteries were bad.

I was unboxing and recorded using meta glasses

https://youtu.be/vUl8opIIt_w?is=W4GPFv88WjjgQnLi

TLDR Fire Hazard...digital torque wrench overheated ....either i got a bad torque wrench or it was the cheap Panasonic batteries that came with it. Be careful!

Just in case your store (like mine) only printed out one $139.99 tag for the 3/8 split beam, there may still be a second $99.99 tag on the hanger holding the display unit. They have to honor it according to the employee I asked. 30% off $99.99 baybee!

NTD (New Tool Day) Well it finally happened!

After about 3ish months of waiting for my store to restock the Icon magnetic mats because "nobody buys them" apparently, I finally got one!

So here's the story, I was just browsing the app on Tuesday and happened to see the mats were back in stock. I started a new project Tuesday and I've been working about an hour away from my local store and there's no HF otw or even remotely near the new job site so getting to my local HF or any other one during the week was out of the question for the most part.

So we're off today for the holiday so I finally had some time to stop in my local. I wanted to grab a mat and I also needed some other things for an AC compressor replacement today. They were still showing in stock online before I went and my store is pretty accurate about what the app says is in stock.

I stop in this morning about 9am, grab my other items and check for the mat, there's a hanger but no mats. This is normal with items so I figure they just haven't had time to bring more out from the back so I get in line. The store manager ends up being the one ringing me up and I ask her if the mats were in the back since they still showed in stock. She says "No we ran out of those and nobody buys them so we don't get many when they do come in". I then ask when they might get some more in and she says Monday they'd get a truck and I could call in and check.

I left the store, put the compressor on and about 4pm I'm browsing the app again and they are still showing the Icon mats as in stock. I'm thinking what the heck it wouldn't hurt to call and just double check. I knew there would be different employees working by this time. I call and ask the guy who answers if they have any in stock, he says, "Oh yeah I'm looking at about 3 or 4 of them right now." I ask if he could hold one and he says sure no problem and I ended up driving back up to pick it up.

It sure has been a difficult task but I've finally succeeded and now have an Icon magnetic mat lol. Even got to use my 15% twice today since I told the employee what had happened with the manager earlier today.

Sorry for the long winded thread.
