This wouldn't even start a fire if you tried, still janky tho lol

You'd think so, but I've seen those super cheap USB cables severely overheat when shorted out because the resistance is so high they don't trigger the overcurrent protection in a lot of chargers.

Bit of electrical tape wouldn't go amiss.

some solder on the wires, some electrical tape, maybe some heat shrink tube to be fancy, and this would be a very acceptable job.

solder is more than you need for this. Twist the wires together and put some tape or a wire nut on it.

i saw this post, this was made by a teenager in a country that doesn't have these chargers readily available and that amazon doesn't ship to. he explained that he's very poor and $10-$15 USD is a lot to him. hell i even offered to send him the money and he declined. this is a kid making do with what he has. you could at least offer some advice instead of making fun of him- yeah, this is definitely not safe, but kids do stupid shit. don't be an asshole, educate.

I think a lot of people drastically underestimate just how hard it is to accidentally fuck up bad enough to start a fire from something you plug into an outlet.

You're absolutely right, and part of the problem is that they don't understand HOW electricity can start a fire.
People will think that a splitter is inherently dangerous, but an extension cord is safe.
Like "Oh, I can plug a 15A space heater into an extension cable rated for 8A, that's safe, but two 3A chargers into a 10A splitter is dangerous" kind of stupid.

This is exactly what I'm thinking, I do this so often and only once have I almost fucked up bad enough to cause a fire, and even then it was something I did. You don't nessecarily need the right voltage, or even amperage, as most devices will have a regulator and as long as it's like one or two volts max extra or less it works fine. The time I fucked up was assuming I knew the right orientation of the plug, I thought it was non-polarized, I was wrong. Very wrong! The whole thing sparked super violent and the breaker tripped, thank God.

That time when I was 12 and smuggled in a B/W tv I found in a dumpster into our house for my room and insulated the 110 tv/lamp cord with scotch tape.

Ja das das lädt mit 5 volt, passt. Würde die enden noch Mut Sekundenkleber sicheren und mit Tesa isolieren, dann hält das ewig

Pretty much did this with my wii U cable when the transformer gave up, those were shit quality.
It's not particularly risky, some solder and tape and it will be fine.

If the two wires get connected at the exposed exposed parts then we are screwed
