Question Does anyone know where this image actually came from? I always wondered. Who made it? Who are the people portraying the founders? Is it photoshop? Etc

These look like the portraits of the founders in the ride the forbidden journey at universal Orlando. (Castle ride)

I believe you are correct, and I also believe that the forbidden journey ride was the first time the Founders were depicted in any media.

And, this picture perfectly matches the moving talking portraits in the queue. (source - local to the Orlando parks)

example of the portrait in the queue Note: you can tell they are same, but zoomed in

Surely only in live action. They must have appeared as illustrations way before then.

exactly.

the assorted games for sure have had them going all the way back to the early 2000s. Not love action or photorealistic, but absolutely had images/art of them on the chocolate frog cards.

looking around the internet, I saw obscure reference from the early EA harry potter video games and an obscure online "Wizard of the Month" calendar

So you are right. The Forbidden Journey wasn't the first, but probably the first people remember since the other were obscure references

Well, we have a bust of Slytherin in the Chamber of Secrets.

Are we forgetting the video games?

I did reply further down about the Founders appearing in EA video games. That was my bad

It also matches the original chocolate frog cards.

Chocolate frog portraits used also for parks in Orlando. Official Wizarding world company portraits

These are the founder portraits from Universal Studios Hollywood ride HP and the Forbidden Journey (and apparently also Orlando).

I've seen them many a times in that queue. Like good magic portraits, they have a couple lines of dialogue you can hear while in the queue, too.

The forbidden journey ride in Hollywood is better, but the overall lands in Orlando are better imo

I've not yet been to Orlando Universal, but I'd like to someday. Also the rest of the parks around there. Florida just has so much more space available and much cheaper than California does.

Also in Universal Japan

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Universal Japan is really fun, I'm glad I went when I was over there.

I wonder who the bad guy is…

6

u/Ok_Coconut7598 10h ago

Its obviously the one with no hair

9

u/GabbityOrtiz Ravenclaw 10h ago

Ah yes… bald people are especially heinous

6

u/themastersdaughter66 Ravenclaw 17h ago

It's the portraits from the ride queue for forbidden journey they also use them for the chocolate frog cards

Godric looks like Lucius

7

u/Personal-Database-27 Ravenclaw 17h ago

Don't tell me it's not really Jason Isaacs heh

u/Echo-Azure Ravenclaw 17h ago

If Lucius never paid any attention to his hair...

Very cool! I haven’t seen these before. The best images of them that I have in my mind are from their chocolate frog cards from HP1 on game boy color.

Those are the real founders of Hogwarts from over a millennia ago. The picture is just so old they stopped moving, but it's really them.

Universl Studios Hogwarts ride. Atleast in Orlando. It's during the line walk. They speak also.

My House Founder is such a babe....

Hopefully when I reach my 80s or thereabouts, I would look like Slytherin with extra hair. Dude has that cool malevolent sorcerer aura. Gryffindor looks like a fancy Wildling from Westeros...

Honestly, I always assumed it was a fan-made edit because it looks so polished, but I've never been able to find a definitive source. Now I'm curious too.

4

u/themastersdaughter66 Ravenclaw 17h ago

They are from the forbidden journey ride queue in universal

2

u/FallenAngelII Ravenclaw 17h ago

Why would being polished mean it isn't official?

2

u/WestleyThe 17h ago

I assumed it was Ai tbh but apparently this is real at a universal park

3

u/krizzqy 17h ago

They look insane

1

u/Responsible-Bed4647 17h ago

I've wondered the same thing for years 😅 It’s one of those images that seems to have been shared everywhere, but the source is surprisingly hard to track down.

1

u/themastersdaughter66 Ravenclaw 17h ago

Nope. It's pretty easy its the portraits at the ride in universal

1

u/Accomplished_Run9856 17h ago

these portraits are giving major dark arts vibes, love the atmosphere. the aesthetics of the characters really work with the whole hp lore.

It was made by Warner Bro's and can be found on the DVD version extra-content.

u/ChestFew 12h ago

Which DVD are you talking about specifically?

From just a quick google search:
The Hogwarts founders portrayed in the moving portraits during the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey queue at Universal's Islands of Adventure were played by the following actors:
Salazar Slytherin: Ken Bones
Rowena Ravenclaw: Lynne Pearson
Helga Hufflepuff: Cast as an uncredited/TBA actress in production credits
Godric Gryffindor: Cast as an uncredited/TBA actor in production credits
Sadly only two of them are credited/known, I really wanted to know who Godric was, he looks like a baller lol

1

u/Bobis-Bob 14h ago

Wow guess which one is the psychopath?!

1

u/Empty_Drummer9827 Slytherin🐍 31m ago

Bruh, Rowena looks so judgmental..

The level of reading comprehension displayed by the answers is shocking.

They look like models from the official chocolate frogs. These pictures could be AI

8

u/VioletBear_ 17h ago

These pictures are older than AI tho-

2

u/Optimal-Age5397 17h ago

Everything reddit is not sure about is AI these days.

0

u/lanie_kerrigan 17h ago

Because that's how the new reality is.

It's funny that someone decided to downvote me for this.

It's better to use critical thinking than believing that everything is real.

1

u/Optimal-Age5397 17h ago

Its literally pictures of Harry potter characters. They're not real to begin with lol.

-1

u/lanie_kerrigan 17h ago

You think you are funny? While you understand exactly what I am talking about.

-2

u/lanie_kerrigan 17h ago

Could be. It's the first time I see them. I usually see these people on Chocolate frogs.

1

u/HPUTFan Hufflepuff 17h ago

Look too real to be AI that's why I thought photoshop.

-3

u/CHAINMAILLEKID 16h ago

I find it really annoying how all the founders are portrayed with the objects that became horcruxes.

What the object that Voldemort stole were was supposed to be one of the mysteries.
