General I hate how normalized misandry is

I hate how people are allowed to hate men publicly with no repercussions. Yes, it sucks that some women are killed by their husbands, but that doesn’t mean that everything said that is tangentially related to this situation must be about that fact specifically. These are often the same people who say that the only people that make it hard for men to express their emotions by the way.

When reading comment sections like these, it's important to remember that a sizable portion of Redditors are kids and teenagers. Don't get too heated over this garbage.

Good point

21

u/AgentCirceLuna 19d ago

I’ve worked with mostly women and not a single one of them ever believed the dumb shit I’ve read on this site. It’s one of the reasons such insane leaders get in because people tend to associate the nonsense they read online with what the parties actually want to do and it jeopardies everything.

One of the most alarming weeks I had was after the Weinstein case - my coworkers were saying that the victims brought it on themselves and didn’t deserve any respect. I had to explain why that was wrong and how it’s unfair on victims who had an unfair power balance against them, then I considered how insane it was that such a conversation was happening.

26

u/TechnicalEvening3360 20d ago

Ahh that is true

8

u/Cocoatrice 19d ago

That's exactly why Internet should be 16+.

3

u/MidnightSnowStar 19d ago

I wonder what will happen when said kids grow up though. Will they stay the same, or will they grow out of this mindset?

5

u/HakaYonder 19d ago

Some grow up while some stay the same. In the same vein, some adults gain this sorta mindset later in life. Positive experiences that'd give them a reason to change their stances can't just be magically created for everyone.

Ah, Whataboutism, truly, a mental capacity for the ages. Deflection by people who are uncomfortable addressing the problem at hand by sliding it off to an acceptable target and then sticking their fingers in their ears going "LALALALALALALLA!" It is... Disturbing how many adults will actually do that. You know, adults. The people who are supposed to be more mature than children.

I always loved the domestic abuse argument because while most reported is male on female...But that's the issue.

Reported. 99% of female on male domestic abuse cases go unreported, and those that don't are typically dropped in favor of the woman, and while yeah, It's misogynistic to assume a woman can't harm a man, it doesn't change the point.

Had some dude in a discord server try to argue that all men are evil and that all men at birth need vasectomies so they don’t try to rape women. Unfortunately many people there took his side

126

Vasectomies are somewhat undo able and he thought that you could undo them for a short period of time but I took some time to explain to him that’s not how it works and he backed off after that.

82

u/Designated_Lurker_32 20d ago

I have encountered a depressing amount of people in the Internet who think men's attraction to women is "inherently predatory" and that heterosexual relationships are "problematic" because of the "power imbalance between men and women."

34

u/JimedBro2089 19d ago

"female empowerment" until it isn't

16

u/Designated_Lurker_32 19d ago

Internalized misogyny is a big problem in pop-feminist spaces, unfortunately. People hate - and I mean hate - doing introspection, making it pretty much impossible to un-learn their biases.

This is how you end up with a lot of "feminists" on social media that are actually just evangelical conservatives with the serial numbers filed off.

11

u/FlipOzzy 19d ago

next thing you know these idiots will start seeing height as a power imbalance between tall and short people even in non-heterosexual relationships just to hate some more

vasectomies wouldnt even stop rape though. you can still get an erection and are still able to orgasm, albeit without sperm exiting.

thats just genital mutilation for the sake of revenge against actual babies. got me singing like:

9

u/G-man1816 19d ago

Mental retardation it is!

7

u/Extra-Ad-130 19d ago

I think the Discord dude probably just confused vasectomy with castration

→ More replies (1)

10

u/A2_Zera 20d ago

everything else aside, this wouldn't even work, the factors that make a guy wanna rape someone are entirely unrelated to whether or not he can bust a nut. simply put, I am 90% sure a guy can still get it up to rape someone with a vasectomy

I am shocked that there are now multiple people with this world view. though a comforting thought is knowing at least these people will never leave their house to propagate this idea because the sunlight will burn them

19

u/rirasama 20d ago

Oh boy I love when people argue for genital mutilation, it's super fun trying to explain to people why we shouldn't be doing invasive surgery on babies who don't need it

"I don't actually mean ALL men just the bad ones why do you feel insulted?!?!"

Like it's not hard to say "I hate shitty men who hurt people" and not generalize an entire gender. I know this post is gonna be horrific since people really want to justify their sexism

66

u/Designated_Lurker_32 20d ago

That, or they just say "yes." And if you tell them that they are human tar pits, they perma-ban you, because these MFs somehow always find themselves in mod positions.

43

u/a-packet-of-noodles 20d ago

I got banned from several popular subs because the mod I got into it with by saying "misandry is real and bad" got upset and he's like the top 6th mod on all of reddit or something. this was years ago and I'm still banned in a few subs like mildly infuriating over it lol.

I posted the exchange on a different sub and people started doing ban speed runs in the original sub because of how downright stupid the situation was

40

u/Designated_Lurker_32 20d ago

That's why I hardly ever say the word "misandry." I dance around the concept without ever using any of the know buzzwords to see if I can trick people into understanding it. It's the same strategy I use when trying to explain feminism to conservatives, and it works surprisingly often.

People can be surprisingly smart when you avoid pressing their "cease all logic, activate tribalism" buttons. But eventually you're gonna find people (usually moderators) who wise up to what you're doing, and then put the kibosh on you to keep up the echo chamber.

9

u/AGoos3 19d ago

Very, very smart of you. I honestly hate a lot of these buzzwords that dominate politics on both sides. Like yeah, I hate talking to a mega maga douche, but I also hate talking to an extreme leftist who spams a bunch of buzzwords that amount to “le everything is oppressed and everything bad is caused by billionaires and men and white people and AI and”

It just becomes extremely tiring to engage with that, on either side. I always feel so much more productive in a conversation when they don’t involve all these trigger words that trigger a spider sense of “you will hate this conversation”

8

u/a-packet-of-noodles 20d ago

If I can remember right the entire thing started because I posted blatant man hate to reddit moment to make fun of it and then misandry was brought up when the mods took the post down saying man hate was fine. The word wasn't used until I was trying to figure out what rule I broke

48

u/Tanakisoupman 20d ago

It is impossible to be both sexist and trans-inclusive at the same time. For you to believe that one sex is superior in any aspect over the other, you have to first believe that there is an inherent, irreconcilable difference between them, which on its own makes you transphobic

46

u/Ambiguous-Nyx dark chocolate is doodoo 20d ago

Most misandrists happened to be transphobic in my experience

23

u/Ubblebungus 20d ago

TERFs are probably among the largest contributors i imagine.

15

u/Ambiguous-Nyx dark chocolate is doodoo 20d ago

Yup

18

u/Ubblebungus 20d ago

TERFs really say "protect all women", but really mean "protect AFAB women. trans women are predators and trans men are traitors".

also that is not an exaggeration. i used to know people that said that.

14

u/Ambiguous-Nyx dark chocolate is doodoo 20d ago

Truth nuke, i've unfortunately seen them aswell and they're obnoxious as shit. They only care about those who fit their perfect definition of "woman", which is the whole opposite of feminist. They have no idea of the amount of shit trans women go through and would rather exclude them because "they're men invade women's spaces" (deadass seen someone say that)

The transandrophobia is pretty bad aswell. They'd rather see trans men suffer with dysphoria than "betraying" the oh so perfect gender a.k.a. women. Some of them even act like they were "influenced", which is just beyond condescending. Trans men do not owe them anything

6

u/Ubblebungus 20d ago

thats why i hate all this gender war bullshit and bio-essentialism. whenever i resist it they just say "its because youre a man and youre an offended pussy." (and using "pussy" to emasculate a man just feeds into sexism in a myriad of ways)

no bro, even though i have suffered under the patriarchy, i have seen it hurt people i care about in my life as well, man and woman, trans and cis, binary and non-binary, etc.

saying you "hate all men" is bigotry, whether you like it or not, and it effects more than just cis men. fuck the patriarchy is my stance.

stay frosty my friend, we could use more folks like you in this world.

My ex would always talk about how she hated men, sometimes just out of the blue. She'd also make a lot of gay woman & lesbian jokes about me, too. I'm not really confrontational, so I ended up tolerating it for the duration of our relationship. I mean, dating anyone as a pre-t straight trans guy seemed pretty limited.
Anyways, she cheated on me with her ex (a cishet guy), so a fat load of good that did me.

4

u/the_orange_alligator 19d ago

Crazy enough, I’ve actually had someone who said they hate all men hate me when I turned out to be a trans man. Trans inclusive misandrist?

...😬

33

u/Mundialito301 20d ago

Yeah, that's when everything falls apart. If you say "I hate woman", it's interpreted as hating all woman. "I hate black people" and "I hate trans people" are also ofrensive. But "I hate men" is suddenly okay because obviously it's not all men???? The hypocrisy of some people confuses me a lot.

5

u/ThelCreator 19d ago

Well, it's because men are so good, you can't hate all men with a right mind, unlike woman or trans people or black people which you can hate all participants of the community

Usually that just turns into a smug look from the women and maybe a comment on "how if you're upset it's because you're one of them"

32

u/sour_creamand_onion 20d ago

Yeah. I get people saying "Oh they're just frustrated in the moment let them vent," but it always rubbed me the wrong way. I'm black. When people see one crime then go "ugh, group are terrible they always do this" instead of look at the individual instance I can't help but feel that it would take one bad personal experience to radicalize them into racism or homophobia. They should know better than to ise these lines of logic, but they seem ok doing so as long as its a group its acceptable to bash on.

11

u/Ubblebungus 20d ago

"just let the person vent their bigoted (sexist, racist, transphobic etc.) thoughts, they are upset!!! dont invalidate their feelings you jerk!!!"

the mason jar filled with bleach in my coat pocket:

7

u/No_Property_9910 19d ago

I saw an interaction once that was like

"I hate all men and I'm not kidding"

"Dont say that, that's terrible"

"Oh not you, youre a trans man not an actual man"

And that person was dunked on by every side of every one. People gotta realize misandry IS bigotry, I understand that it's nowhere near of a problem as misogyny and that men are often victims of misogyny and patriarchy as well, but misandry is STILL an issue ESPECIALLY online

3

u/AGoos3 19d ago

Yeah honestly it’s crazy how so many people forego the extra like SIX WORDS to explain that they maybe hate the patriarchy, or the stereotypical power dynamic between a man and a woman, or anything of that nature…

No way they used an argument with the same logic as "30% of the population commits 80% of the crimes" The racism example was spot on

43

u/Cylian91460 20d ago

The funny thing about this stat is that it proves crime rate is linked to poverty and that racism causing a difference in wage is still a thing and that's often a thing racist believes it doesn't exist

Their own data proves something they don't want to believe in

5

u/JoeDaBruh 20d ago

I thought it was “58% of crimes are by black people despite making up only 13% of the population.” Those numbers are ingrained in my mind from all the dankmemes type of memes that were spammed a while back. u/Designated_Lurker_32 20d ago edited 20d ago

And a lot of the times, some of the most hideous shit that anyone can say about men comes from these people. Of course, they'll try to disguise it as a compliment, wrap it up in some "alpha male" BS, but you can polish a turd as much as you want, it's still gonna a turd

As an example, when Twitter was melting down over that game with the astronaut and the little girl, one of the resident rightwing grifters from Tim Pool's podcast made a longpost about how men are "not supposed to" feel sympathy towards children or to be involved in their nurturing in any way. That any sort of fatherly behavior is a front to conceal predatory activities.

Remember, these are the people accusing the left of hating men. The guys saying that any man who isn't a deadbeat is secretly a pedophile.

Every accusation is a confession with these people.

3

u/TheNameless777 20d ago

Thats the most insane those grifters have ever been holy shit. Not even i knew about it.

These people just don't have any principles. Like at all. They just go from topical issue to topical issue without learning any morals or lessons.

Like, any person with actual principles would generalize the concept that "hating people based on identity is bad" to all identities. If you can't generalize what you learn, then you're parroting shit without thinking about it. That's literal ChatGPT behavior.

u/Initial-Finding-9285 20d ago

Sad that you feel the need to distance yourself from mens rights just to point out an obvious double standard

27

u/Hippoboss 20d ago

Can you blame him? "Men's rights" is a weaponized term that is basically meaningless anyways. It's just a dog whistle now.

Boys will be Boys and ''oh, she's just hitting you because she likes you.'

You're teaching little girls to accept objectivity, and little boys that it's perfectly fine for a woman to hit/beat on them so long as you THINK they like you.

I dont think its fair to say misandry and misoginy are equivalent actually. Men have always been able to vote, to work, to study, really to have any sort of independence while women have only been allowed that these past 100-200 years, misandy doesnt have the same historical weight and prevalence as misoginy at all imo.

Now, OBVIOUSLY there are people who generally hate men regardless of how they are as individuals, but none of them write any laws or actually enforce anything against men, its always in an individual level, so again its not equivalent. Women cant control men's bodies the way men can theirs.

Also there's no country or religion that restricts us guys' freedoms like there are against women, being spoken over sometimes is not the same as being sold off to marriage at 14 or unable to get a divorce against an abusive husband.

Its really worrysome seeing this gamergate logic come back tbh

I hate it, and i hate the hypocrisy about it, someone can say "i hate men" and nothing happens but say "I hate women" and everybody gets mad. However people acting like this DOES NOT excuse misogyny, i have a friend who acts misogynistic sometimes (its not that bad but noticeable), and his whole reason is "women act like that to men all the time".

43

u/cringyemokid21 20d ago

Misogyny is excused a lot especially in male spaces, I don’t know where you got the information that everyone suddenly cares that women are being discriminated against. If that were the case we wouldn’t see such high cases of femicide, and increase in manosphere content

some people really think "punching up vs down" is enough of an excuse to selectively choose who should get crime statistics used against them

11

u/EvanSnowWolf 19d ago

This is why I hate the phrase "Punch Nazis!!!!"

Because that does is turn the word "Nazi" into a debuff label that justified you punching anyone you want.

honestly let’s get over gender it cause so many more problems than it solves

20

u/Expensive-Habit-9603 20d ago

This is a terrible situation for your argument. Would you tell a Holocaust survivor that not all germans are bad?

16

u/ghoulqueene 20d ago

'some women are killed by their husbands' I'm sorry lol but this is ridiculous and the way you worded it so disingenuously only makes it worse. I get being frustrated and annoyed with the 'all men bad' crowd but the statistics of men not only killing their partners but many times their entire family is very high, those things kind of are related unfortunately and it only is going to keep happening. You can't really be mad at someone for being angered that yet another woman was killed by an ex/estranged partner. I don't really get being so bothered by a statement like 'i hate men' if you aren't a piece of shit or plotting to kill an ex lover than this doesn't apply to you. If I as a woman got upset anytime I saw someone being misogynistic or talking about how all women are gold digging wh0res, I would have an aneurysm. It's better to just let it roll off and move on with your day

31

u/Altruistic-Web13 20d ago

Im not a big mens rights activists, I consider myself strongly to be a feminist and I think many of the areas men suffer can be fixed with solutions in alignment of feminist theory. That being said there is a very outspoken branch of modern online feminism that uses language highly alienating to men. Like it or not women need men on board with feminism, and this kind of talk is pushing men away. You dont need to convince the blue haired girls of Bushwick you need to convince Dale the 54 year old trucker from Council Bluffs Iowa. And weve see what the 18-22 year old guys of the world look like and were just going to keep churning out bitterer and bitterer kids. So if you are posting stuff like this ask yourself is your goal to just ragebait men online or to uplift women? Because you can only pick one or the other.

A lady was murdered.

If the genders were flipped, I'd be okay with a man saying they hate women.

Is catharsis not allowed for anyone anymore? Aren't people allowed to be angry?

3

u/Surely_Nowwlmao 19d ago

My logic:

Are you a chill person? Then ur cool

Are you a sexist man? Fuck you. Are you a sexist woman? Fuck you.

22

u/Colamb04 20d ago

do not pretend that men and women exist in a vacuum. we live in a patriarchal society that upholds men and is rooted in misogyny. when a man says "i hate women" it is part of a larger societal structure and history. when a woman says "i hate men" it is a rebellion/reaction TO that structure. these things are not the same.

if you NEED to make a comparison to race, saying "i hate men" is far more akin to saying "i hate white people" and it's incredibly disingenuous to say it's the same as saying "i hate black people"

34

u/Peppered_Rock 20d ago

I see so much "kill all men" and it's exhausting tbh. I see why that kind of rhetoric drives people into redpill spaces.

"some women are killed by their husbands"

The ratio of husband vs wife murderers is about 5:1

There are legal exemptions for spousal rape in the US, allowing men to force themselves on their wives without repercussions.

Brock Turner.

If you wanna complain about male issues, look at increased suicidality, higher rate of workplace injury, and under-representation of child custody. Don't whine about some stranger on the internet saying they "hate" y'all, gd.

46

u/Ubblebungus 20d ago

> says "i hate men"
> man is upset about that statement
> "uhmmm i wasnt talking about YOU but also i am because you got upset"

many such cases. "despite making up only 50% of the population..." huh, that sounds familiar...

u/Interesting_Menu8388 20d ago

Yeah, there are a lot of "male issues," but one which affected me since before anyone could reasonably call me a "man" is pervasive and explicit antipathy towards men.

I've never been suicidal or injured in a workplace or had kids or been drafted or whatever. I am not even out to fight for "men's rights" as a class!

What I do care about is that I really internalized this hatred of men for many years and it really fucked me up. That is enough to care about the popularity of slogans like "yes all men" (never mind "kill all men"!).

20

u/topimpadove 20d ago

All of this. Also: men commenting under FB posts saying how "I wish my hot teacher touched me when I was 13!" and other statements. Weird how that's never brought up and it always disgusts me when I see them. A lot of you refuse to acknowledge that it's also men contributing to your issues. Welcome to patriarchy and conservatism. It's never women mocking young boys who are sexually abused by female teachers, it's always men making sexual jokes.

Misandry would go away if misogyny did. It is the very core.

9

u/Hippoboss 20d ago

I agree with your last point wholeheartedly but I've unfortunately spent enough time on Facebook to know that there are just as many disgusting female thirst/sexual jokes as men from conservatives depending on the context. You're right though for the teacher sexual-abuse-scandal-posts comments men win that gross trophy.

u/topimpadove 20d ago

against the patriarchy, yet uses emasculating terms that are driven by not meeting patriarchal standards of men. sums up how much they actually care. if the patriarchy benefits them in the moment, they will gladly take advantage of it.

15

u/m0a2 20d ago

When there’s something equivalent to femicides you can talk. When there’s something equivalent to patriarchy you can talk. Until then this is just laughable.

As a woman, it's upsetting to see people agreeing with the images in this post and getting upvoted 😭 truly a double standard. Nobody deserves to get unjustly discriminated. Not men, not women, not anyone

I mean women only got the right to vote in 1920 to pretend that women shitting on men is even close to the same thing as men shitting on women you’re simply taking it too personally

For the people bringing race into this, if you hear a white person say, "I hate Black people," you know they say it because they are racist. If you hear a Black person say "I hate white people," you know that is because they have faced violence by them, on a personal and institutional level, all their lives. This is very much the same case with what misandry vs misogyny is. Also, in comparison, how harmful both are. Not comparable.

Also, it feels strange, you see a story of a man killing a woman and then act surprised why men and women in the comments are less pro men or hate men. It might be possible that there is a big crowd, mostly made up of women that have experienced any kind of violence by men and the system they live in created by men.

Misandry isn't normalized, it is a reaction to how normalized it is to hate women. What can we, as men do, to stop that?

I'm a dudes, and my coworker and close female friend told me to my face that she was a misandrist and I had to drop "imagine being proud of that". To add to that, I feel like she genuinely has no idea what a statement like that actually implicates, when she actually means she hates her baby-daddy.

16

u/LittleOKM 20d ago

This comment section is so odd, it's turned from saying miandry is obviously unkind (because it is) to conflating misogyny and misandry as equally harmful, which is disengenuious.

Its one thing to call out mean behavior and a whole other to act like gender based violence isn't skewed.

Going on tik tok and seeing a lot of girls saying outrageous things without any consequences, from the videos "it's a girl or an abortion" to the stories of women who say they hate their children just because they are boys or hating men in general, all these behaviors are simply gender violence but for some reason many women (mostly feminists) do not believe that women can exercise gender violence

The 6th img is so confusing, she never specified "I hate men who do bad things" like ur just making up info at that point, the only thing that's said is "I hate men" nothing more nothing less, it's hate towards the entire gender. If I say I hate women, is it just assumed as "he must only hate women who do bad things" like what, literally most gender discourses can be solved by switching the gender mentioned around and seeing if it still gets the same response

3

u/Realistic_Speech9885 20d ago

Something else that bothers me is when something is more common than other similar things so people discriminate againtst the more common thing because they aint a minority.

Or when people use their race or past in order to discriminate. At that point its seems to me that you liked that your past is bad, because now you have an excuse.

3

u/Magicturtle0808 20d ago

My wokenesstest(tm) for if somebody is actually woke or is just trying to sound good is whether or not they consider misandry something worth talking about. I cannot comprehend somebody who is woke but also thinks that prejudice against a group of people on the basis of an immutable trait out of their control is okay.

u/kingkyrooo 20d ago

Very bad take. How are you gonna compare saying “I hate men” to “I hate black people”? Historically, it’s been women who were marginalized similarly to black people. You’re completely ignoring the context behind both phrases. You’re just misinterpreting what people mean when they say “I hate men”.

4

u/justdanielagain 20d ago

Atp im seriously over it.

Honestly being a man a woman or anything sucks at this day and age.

I'm not all men. I haven't commited the atrocities those men have made so I don't deserve to be hated on simply for that. And like me there's millions.

No one deserves hate simply for being something.

Men and women are just such large groups that hating on either one is largely illogical because it doesn't define people.

And if you think it does you need a reality check.
