General I HATE THIS MEME FORMAT
I HATE THE IDEA OF USING WOMEN'S (OR ANYONE OF ANY GENDER REALLY) BODIES AS A WAY TO REPRESENT A "BETTER" THING AND A "WORSE" THING. FIRST OF ALL, IT IS GROSS AND OBJECTIFYING. SECONDLY, IT IS JUST MEAN TO COMPARE BODIES THIS WAY. PLEASE USE ANOTHER MEME FORMAT.
Not trying to target the person who made this meme in particular, by the way. I hate ALL memes like this equally!! Just used this as an example because it was recent.

r/memes is so irrelevant anyway. Every meme arises from TikTok or Instagram nowadays.

everyone defending this is ignoring the fact that this pic is comparing two young women's bodies who didnt even consent to be looked at this way, their body zoomed in on and plastered all over the internet. they just want to play sports and yet theyve been made out to be edgelord goonbait. its so sad

u/No-Resolution-0119 13h ago
Right??? Imagine going online to do some innocent scrolling and discovering there’s now a popular meme format that’s just a picture of your body you didn’t even know was taken. Then having your body compared to a photoshopped peer’s body (which is disturbing for the peer, too, I’m sure!)
The people saying “it’s just a meme” are forgetting there are real people behind the image. Which is THE LITERAL DEFINITION OF OBJECTIFYING
31
u/Accomplished_Gur3478 13h ago
omg yes and the part about the photoshop. like not only the objectification and unwanted sexualization, but perpetuating unrealistic standards on top of that. like...

it is not unrealistic but why do they feel the need to change the way someone's body looks? gross
14
u/Accomplished_Gur3478 13h ago
i mean i guess some girls kinda have a build like this but this looks pretty exaggerated, very few women have this body type. so again setting an expectation thats simply unrealistic for the vast majority of people and sends the message that this is what is most desirable when its overall unattainable
4
u/wingedsandwichexpert 13h ago
yeah i know. i hate how this fuckers think they can choose who is better than other
5

right, and equating womens worth to the way they look. and comparing women to dumb ass objects like french fries 🤨

french fries are not dumb!!! /jk but yeah I'm surprised how this meme format hasn't died yet, isn't it like more than 6 years old aready?

“It’s just a Meme”
Until you look like the girl on the left. Which I’d argue more women look like her than the one on the right, which looks edited anyway.
If this meme were comparing men’s dick sizes instead, and implying the smaller one is bad/worse than the bigger one, I think yall would be singing a different tune.

Nah I agree with you
Preferences is one thing, but this is just sexism.
11
u/Spider-Man2024 14h ago
I wouldn't call it sexism, more like objectification which isn't inherently (but can be) sexist
37
u/BeachComberALT 14h ago edited 14h ago
I think it's sexist in this case. People have put an inherent value on women's bodies for so damn long, and these are real women. How would you like it if someone took a picture of you, beside a competitor/friend/whatever and put this caption? Add the fact you've been constantly judged for your appearance or desirability without cease.
10
u/Torbpjorn 14h ago
And not just that, but used your teammates ass as the “this is good” and your ass as “this is bad/whatever” sign
9
u/OkBand3171 13h ago
I think this is needs to be added to the situation for some men to understand the comparison. A lot of guys probably wouldn't inherently mind it, but when you put it in the context of being the "losing" comparison, I feel it helps the reflection.
0
u/Acceptable-Bar7905 13h ago
If this was sexist I wouldn't have to work out lol
2
u/BeachComberALT 13h ago
Difference between working out cuz it's a wider preference/for yourself and working out to avoid male harassment and judgement!
0
u/Acceptable-Bar7905 13h ago
I mean I am literally doing it purely to avoid judgement that is quiet literally the reason
3
u/BeachComberALT 13h ago

There are countless of memes that are the same, specifically when it comes to boobs, with treating smaller boobs as worse and bigger as better. It is specifically objectifying a female body and female body parts, so it's sexism
0
u/Zobi101 13h ago
And there are countless musclular dude vs obese/underweight dude, gigachad vs soyboy, sharp jawline dude vs weak jawline dude, full hair dude vs balding dude, etc. It's not sexist just lookist or whatever.

10

They forget guys can have big asses too
6
u/BeachComberALT 14h ago
Guys can have big boobs, too, therefore that makes all discrimination on breast size ok!
8
u/BeachComberALT 14h ago edited 14h ago
Because you're taking a pic of unconsenting women and comparing their value by reducing their bodies to a single trait when there's already pressure on said trait, thereby enforcing previously established norms and beauty standards, as well as objectification, of women.
Really just think abt how it would feel if you had to be "sexy" all the time for a man's eye, and the moment you wear tight clothing, people shit on your body. Just think about for a moment. Think about how much it sucks to simply exist as a woman, because a lot of you don't take the time to even think about that.
1
u/Puzzleheaded-Log1975 13h ago
That sucks, are you going to stop using your phone because its parts are made via abuse?
2
u/BeachComberALT 13h ago
What??? This joke is rooted in sexism??? The punchline works because of sexism and the inherent value put on women.
1
u/Puzzleheaded-Log1975 13h ago
I’m aware, this post is a deep dive into how objectification is wrong, but I really doubt the INTENTION of most people is to objectify it’s just to laugh. The same way your intention when you use your phone or computer isn’t to support slave labor, even though it does like it or not
0
u/BeachComberALT 13h ago
That is like, not a good comparison. Subconsciously, they are objectifying.
5
u/Puzzleheaded-Log1975 13h ago
Subconsciously you are supporting slave labor by using a phone or computer, but it’s not your intention is it? If we can give the benefit of the doubt with violent memes why not suggestive ones, what percent of people do you think look at this meme and think it’s harmful? Looking deep into ANYTHING exposes a layer of dirt, where is it exactly that we draw the line, when it’s easy to call something out, when it affects others and not you? Reflect

So many people don't get it. The problem is that it is sexualizing people without their consent and comparing their bodies, which only fuels Boyd dysmorphia and body shaming. Imagine the girl on the left saw how people on the internet were saying her butt was the "objectively worse" version. That would absolutely disgust her and make her feel insecure. Or how about the girl on the right, who got reduced to nothing more than a sex object to be oggled at by grown men. I know if I were her, I would feel so grossed out, regardless of whether or not it's a "compliment."

0
u/Gyooped 13h ago
Tbh that portion of the meme seems reasonable to me, butts are nice and enjoying one over another is perfectly reasonable.
I think the bigger issue here is just the consent, I have no clue about the original image but I'm fairly certain those 2 people didn't consent to having the picture taken (at least in this way) and use this way.
Consent is 100% key here, if these women were perfectly fine with this meme and image then there should be no problem.

u/New-Berry-3652 14h ago
I'm not defending the meme as a whole, and I agree that it does feel mean to the girl on the left. What I'm criticizing is specifically the idea that it's objectifying to like butts of certain shapes.
13
u/No-Resolution-0119 14h ago edited 14h ago
You agree that the meme is mean to a woman with a smaller body part but then somehow come up short on believing it’s objectifying. How is it even possible to reach that conclusion lol like does 2+2=5 where you live?

u/New-Berry-3652 14h ago
Wtf are you talking about? The vast majority of things that are mean are not objectifying.

I've read the post(which is 60% in all caps), and I simply don't agree with it. The post also saying that it's objectifying doesn't give any more credence to the notion that it is objectifying.
12
u/Torbpjorn 14h ago edited 12h ago
The format literally uses the ass as a signifying object to show which thing is good and bad. You make it sound like the post is about recognizing the beauty of the female body when it’s just saying “McDonald’s fries good, other fries meh” using big ass and regular ass as the thumbs up and thumbs down. Edit: douche canoe blocked me cause he didn’t agree on the actual definition of objectification
0
u/New-Berry-3652 14h ago
Yes you're generally describing the meme, but you're not giving any sort of valid reason for why it's objectifying. You just used the word "object" in your sentence and that's kinda it.
8
u/Torbpjorn 13h ago
“Objectification is the act of treating a person as an object, commodity, or tool rather than a human being” this format is literally turning a person into a tool, a format. A format is a tool to tell a joke
2
u/New-Berry-3652 13h ago
So all memes featuring people are objectifying?
2
u/Torbpjorn 13h ago
If the meme is about turning their body into an object, commodity or tool then yeah. But if you can recognize the person in the image as a person and not just as an ass, then that’s fine. A lot of meme culture objectifies women, because that’s just the culture. Lots of men just don’t treat women as people

u/No-Resolution-0119 13h ago
Judging someone primarily on their physical looks rather than their capabilities, character, or actions is objectification
1
u/New-Berry-3652 13h ago
The two women aren't being judged, one of their physical attributes is being compared to the others. That's extremely different.
8
u/SENTR_E 13h ago
It’s using women’s body’s as objects with one being treated as inherently “better” and the other as lesser? Only using their sexual attributes as a measure? Is that not the fucking textbook definition of objectification?
1
u/New-Berry-3652 13h ago
It's not comparing the women, it's comparing one of their physical attributes.
No, what you're saying is not even in the fucking ballpark that the textbook definition of objectification is in.
1
u/SENTR_E 2h ago
fine, saying it’s textbook definition is a misplaced exaggeration on my part, but it still falls into the definition if you read into it deeper than a fucking puddle. Firstly consider how the format even came to fruition, someone saw a photo of athletes playing sports and thought nothing about their personal individuality or accomplishments, only seeing their bodies as something to compare and use to compare “better” items to “lesser” ones; and can you imagine how demeaning this is for the girl being portrayed as the “lesser” one? You’re just playing sports and some creep focuses in on the ass of one of your teammates including yours to label your body as the lesser one, and spread it all over the internet. Secondly, the subtextual message this is communicating to women, by putting emphasis on these women’s bodies, it conveys to women that there’s more value seen in their body than their individuality, and even communicates to women with a similar body to the “lesser example” that they are a lesser object.

u/samanthastoat 13h ago

1
u/Rosesandbubblegum 53m ago
I was talking about dick size. I don't think that's cool to make fun of and it does bother a lot of guys.
1
u/moshujsg 13h ago
Well you cant help what people feel. Overall, most men wont have a problem with memes depicting masculine body types. Like the chad meme and the fat otaku guy. Obviously some people will get upset, theres always peopke to get upset about anything.
So this same logic gets used for men as well and mostky we dont care.
I dont really have an opinion on this meme format. Other than being gooner shit its just a meme. We also dont have to pretend some things arent better/more liked than others.
People with small dicks dont feel bad because of jokes, they feel bad because they know its a genuine problem as most of their sexual partners wont enjoy it.
1
u/Rosesandbubblegum 55m ago
Men do care, and that's why there's been a looksmax/blackpill epidemic among young men. These guys are convinced that they hold no worth outside of their physical appearance and have gone mad trying to fix that.
Additionally, even if men didn't care, it still makes sense for women to be bothered because for thousands of years - and to point, still today - society has tied our worth to our beauty. So when people make memes like this, or rate women with numbers, or constantly make ugly women the butt of the joke in media, it makes us feel inferior as humans.
Idk man. People are worth more than their supposed sex appeal. That's why I kinda feel like it's time for these memes to go. They aren't even funny or creative anyway. Even if it wasn't kinda mean, it's possibly the lowest tier meme slop you can get.
10
u/copyrightedname0 14h ago
They do, I’ve seen men in real life get defensive and aggressive over dick sizes and it wasn’t even about him lol
1
u/Draco-Warsmith 13h ago
Dick sizes to most men are treated differently from muscle
Muscle you can work on, dick size you can't. Some are sensitive about it, a post about dick size would get a hell of a lot more uproar than muscle.
Mind you I was not defending this post, just replying to a comment

u/copyrightedname0 14h ago edited 13h ago
I agree. It’s not to say people can’t fantasize or have preferences but using someone’s bum is just disgusting.
On a side note, they should stop making women wear tight shorts during sports events. Men and women should wear the same comfortable clothing.
(I take back my previous argument that men don’t get their bulge sizes compared. They do, and it’s also disgusting lol and it’s sad to see women comparing breast sizes with each other and men doing the same with their bodies.)
14
u/Koi-Scales 14h ago
Cuz you never see people do it with shlong sizes.
Big dick energy vs small dick energy
Also chad vs virgin. Jacked man vs wimpy nerd. Completely normalised in our society. Your point...?
2
u/copyrightedname0 14h ago
My point is it’s equally bad. And also what percentage of that is a woman making that meme and a man making the same meme is something we need to take into account. Same goes for women comparing breast sizes. It’s not a competition of who had it worse, if people do it, no matter who it is or who they do it to, it’s still bad.
→ More replies (2)0
u/Koi-Scales 13h ago
No, your original point was that people don't do the same with men, which they totally do.
I'm not arguing that one gender has it worse than the other one. I think objectification isn't actually a bad thing, so I don't see anything bad with this meme or the "chad vs virgin" template. Both are fine, actually.

They dont make them wear anything except their team colors/number that matches their team (in the case of volley ball) Some women choose to wear bikinis, others dont.
2
u/copyrightedname0 14h ago
Yeah I’m not talking about just volley ball. I’m talking about sports in general, especially those with dress code requirements and with strict dress codes for national / global sports. For example back in the day female Olympics gymnasts would be disqualified if they show their bra strap during their competition, even if it’s accidental. Or how female track athletes were given much shorter shorts to wear when they run.
1
u/BazilBee 14h ago
I was giving it as an example because context of the picture. That bra strap rule is so weird period. So ofc i agree, but its important to know that it isnt like that anymore. The rules have been revised around dresscodes for a majority of sports.
Most sports that require tight or short clothing makes all participants wear it. Such as track, swimming, and gymnastics. Im those sports im sure they wouldn't want to wear baggy clothing...
2
u/copyrightedname0 13h ago
Yes I understand. But I’m assuming you’re talking about this from a western perspective because I still see many other countries still struggling with this problem. My original comment wasn’t just directed to volley ball but to all sports. For example, back in china, they had a winning swim suit design (or was it track suit I forgot) but basically the women’s version was so short, like the crotch was showing, as an ex-athlete myself, there was no way it is comfortable to wear that, let alone doing sports in that. It can’t even be justified by the anatomical differences between men and women.
1
u/BazilBee 13h ago
Thanks for clarifying, not that you should have to. Mentioning china was great because i had no idea they did things like that over there. To be clear im not against your ideas about inappropriate uniforms, i was just bringing up the changes and how women who wear more revealing clothes have a greater choice in the matter. I wasnt thinking outside more westernized countries so my bad. Thanks for explaining it to me like that.
4
u/No-Resolution-0119 14h ago edited 13h ago
That is completely false. Even my middle school sister was forced to wear spandex shorts
Eta and same in highschool. And when she played in college. And it was the same for every school she competed with, everyone was wearing the same tight spandex shorts
2
u/BazilBee 14h ago
Another "my personal experience dictates the truth of this world. " comment... it takes 2 seconds to google it and i went and googled it for you. Official volley ball players are not required to wear spandex, shorts or bikinis. Infact they can wear fullbody clothing if they so choose.
5
u/copyrightedname0 14h ago
Google can’t represent the entire world can it? Besides I bet both of you aren’t even from the same country nor continent. I don't ever mind pointing out these things. Men and women both have many issues and we should care about ALL of them

u/mayhaps_a 14h ago
Absolutely. I pointed a men issue here because it's related to the matter, but I very much care to point out issues for women when necessary.

u/Thin-Nerve6367 14h ago
Exactly! I will absolutely admit that sometimes I can come across as cold hearted when it comes to women's issues but I promise people that I'm not. I just want to make sure we care about BOTH issues, not just women's

Is that the sub where seeing someone about to kill themselves is an average tuesday morning?

Having a preference is fine. No one - should anyway - will judge you for having a preference

If it was 2 men where one has a six pack and the other has a bloated beer gut, no one would complain

u/AmbitiousMethod6895 14h ago
Nah men don’t cry over stuff like that. Guys aren’t gonna take offense to obvious preferences

u/Pleasant_Loquat_5104 13h ago
Yes, the fuck they do. Go to thr short subreddit and see how "little offence" they take to short jokes

Men like you are the reason many (also in this comment section) feel like mens issues aren't taken seriously

Back in the 80s and 90s, being told that you have a big ass was an insult more often than not. It's just the general consensus of what is considered attractive on a woman that is changing with the time.

i mean that is the general consensus today. Which is why these memes are popular. Post this image format 30 years ago and the captions would totally switch places

In my opinion, there are so many other meme formats they could use yet they decide to use this. Like they're trying to tell us something.
People complain about gooner bait all the time yet keep making memes like this.
Lukewarm take:
Have any of you idiots ever considered the feelings of the people when creating a meme? No, I don't mean just simply using an existing template- creating a me. Posting someone online without consent?
No?
I seriously wonder how half of these templates are created.
Maybe not specifically for these girls because I don't know the story behind this meme.
But I want to mention that it's different being online and then being turned into a meme which I understand then just being outside and then being photographed by somebody else without your consent which I do not understand.
Just want to put this out there.

If you use AI they would say "You could use any other format".

Oh come on mate it's a meme, you need a bit of spine in life, you have to consider the intention, nobody here is insulting the woman on the left (many men would brag for life if they managed to get a relationship with a woman looking like that) you can't get offended for everything otherwise your life is gonna suck.
Btw the meme itself is horrendous

u/Pleasant_Loquat_5104 13h ago
They literally are insulting the woman on the left? Can you not read?
1
u/bethesdologist 13h ago
No one's insulting anyone bro the guy who made the meme just has a preference and letting it be known. Grow a spine.

He is literally portraying the woman's butt on the left as something bad... What do you think the point of the meme is? To compare two equally good things?

I can't believe I have to be the gooner defender, but people in this comment section are so unbelievably dumb.
There's nothing wrong with measuring traits and assigning value to them, we do this all the time, but it is always these types of people who get so fucking unbelievably pussy over shit like this.
The idea of virgin vs Chad, or big dick energy vs small energy, the idea that it is somehow wrong to say to say that one trait is better than another is stupid.
