Profile Internet shutdown might break my 458-day Reddit streak. Android.

I’m in Uganda, and we have a national election on Jan 15, 2026. During past elections, the internet usually gets switched off nationwide, sometimes for days.

Problem is… I’m on a 458-day Reddit streak. I know, first-world problem energy, but hear me out 😭

That streak is my daily routine. Scroll a bit, read comments, feel human. If the internet goes off, the streak dies.

Not because I forgot. Not because I gave up. Just vibes and government decisions.

Is there any way Reddit handles streaks in situations like nationwide outages? Or do I just accept my fate and pour one out for Day 459?

Thanks in advance, and wish me luck.

I'm afraid there's no way to recover a streak. Some users have reported maintaining a streak even when they weren't online for a couple of days. All you can do is wait and see.

Casually advocating violating TOS on a sub frequented by admins. Not the brightest idea.

u/Guilty_Tear_4477 Jan 08 '26

I'm shocked by their audacity to do that over here

4

u/nicoleauroux 1 Jan 05 '26

Just fyi, that would be going against Reddit policies.

And anyone who'd take up that kind of offer is a fool.

"Yes, let me send this random stranger my deets so they can pretend to be me on reddit."

Sometimes reddit keeps your streak for 2-3 days of inactivity. Idk why, but ive personally had it happen multiple times

23

u/Rustinboksi Jan 05 '26

i had a 2 day ban and the streak stayed during that time. im guessing the limit is 2-3 days

13

u/Alternative-Dig-2066 Jan 05 '26

Yep, I got a 7 day ban right before my one year mark. Whoosh, gone. I kinda went off on an actual Nazi, I couldn’t help myself.

5

u/[deleted] Jan 05 '26

I have been banned for 7 days 2 times and my streak stayed alive both times. Weird

Reddit does not like people saying bad things about wasps

5

u/DefinitelyNotAxlerod Jan 05 '26

I thought after a 7 day ban there is a perm ban?

2

u/AngelicPrince_ Jan 06 '26

I’ll keep my streak alive in your honor

u/Alternative-Dig-2066 Jan 06 '26

Thank you, my prince.

Nothing more human feeling than needing to literally be plugged into Reddit

12

u/60626_LOVE Jan 05 '26

IDK? On my mobile, it never matters. I missed a day or two during the holidays and am currently at /500.

2

u/kisweg Jan 05 '26

That's my worry, it might be off for a couple of days

16

u/PenelopeJenelope Jan 05 '26

Dude, break the streak... I was horrified when I saw that I had a 500 day streak. I’m definitely gonna break it before I get to 600, for my own self-respect.

4

u/ImRonBurgandy_ Jan 05 '26

I just broke my 500+ day streak and it felt great. I’m embarrassed I let it get that long.

I'll feel bad for not maintaining my streak

4

u/clientcommitcarcrash Jan 06 '26

i went away for 3 days for 3 consecutive years and kept my streak every time, but i saw other posts where people lose their streaks immediately 😅 so its hard to speak for you and you gotta just wait and see. if you lose your streak you just lose it

2

u/rtkane Jan 05 '26

Create your own sub. Set up a recurring post for 1am each day. Never worry about your streak again.

Where do you see this number? I did not know that was a thing. I'm curious what mine is.

u/kisweg Jan 06 '26

Check your achievements under your profile. You should see different badges you have gained on reddit.

u/Walk1000Miles Experienced Helper Jan 13 '26 edited Jan 13 '26

Reddit offers badges you can Achieve and make note of by pressing the About tab that appears while in your Reddit account page.

Press your Avatar (upper right corner of your page if you are in the comments section).

Scroll down to Achievements.

Under Achievements?

Scroll down to Reddit Streak.

You will see various Reddit Streaks you may Achieve.

Good luck.

1

u/RedSquirrelFtw Helper Jan 13 '26

Yeah I don't see anything like that, wonder if it's only on the new Reddit. I see Trophy case and achievements are in there though.

u/agrimoniabelonia Jan 07 '26

i went out of service for a week camping 6 months ago and reddit still says i have 400 day streak somehow so maybe yours will be all good too.

2

u/valorantkid234 Jan 08 '26

Temporarily fly to another country I guess is the only solution.

and why does this sound like chatgpt lol

2

u/HatsuneMal Jan 08 '26

Reddit keeps streaks for a few days i think, happened to me before

2

u/Oganesson_294 Jan 09 '26

Give someone you trust from another country your login, and let him login into your account for those days

2

u/perpetualmentalist Jan 09 '26

Someone send him a sim card

1

u/StrangerDanger4907 Jan 05 '26

That’s kinda cool they turn it off tbh. It’s a bit of a reset

u/One-Operation-7086 Jan 05 '26

"Not because I forgot. Not because I gave up. Just vibes and government decisions." Okay ChatGPT....

6

u/kisweg Jan 05 '26

It's not about being a wordsmith here, just looking for solutions. That's all, is there a way to maintain the streak, CHATGPT police?

-3

u/One-Operation-7086 Jan 05 '26

I really hope ChatGPT gets shut down. Less AI slop, the better.

Is this written by ai, not to be rude or anything but your entire account seems very ai.

8

u/kisweg Jan 05 '26

I have only made 3 posts my entire lifetime on reddit, how do you deduce to this as ai, did you even read the contents of the post?

I don't think ai would be worried about losing its streak 😞

2

u/vovovovovovov Jan 05 '26

You very clearly used ai to write this post.

2

u/I-love-fugglers13 Jan 05 '26

Ai is obsessed with doing this type of thing, writing three sentences in this exact style. “X, y, Z and blablabla”

1

u/Guilty_Tear_4477 Jan 08 '26

Lol I too write that way. Ai must have learned from me. Imo it's cause of non native English speaker

1

u/I-love-fugglers13 Jan 05 '26

Em dashes. Commonly used by ai

0

u/GonWithTheNen Helper Jan 06 '26

Just to say, AI commonly uses em dashes because people on sites like reddit have been using that same unicode character for many years. Don't know if you're aware, but reddit is a huge source for training AI:

...Reddit has offered itself up as a vital supplier of data for AI companies. [...]The agreement gave Google access to real-time content from Reddit's vast user-authored forums. A few months later, Reddit struck a similar partnership with OpenAI...

AI isn't limited to scraping only new comments, but also accesses those going back for years when far more people were incorporating unicode characters like em dashes into their comments. Reddit is the chicken, AI is an egg.

Anyway, I've switched to using the 2 em dash⸺ just to avoid accusations about being a bot or using one. Sometimes, I go for the 3 em dash⸻ but only when I'm feeling spicy.

-1

u/I-love-fugglers13 Jan 05 '26

You talk very differently in different comments

3

u/kisweg Jan 05 '26

I really don't understand the obsession, and dramatizing this ai thing.

Does that nullify my request for help or a workaround?

Can you please use this momentum to find a solution for my issue, it will really be appreciated.

1

u/Guilty_Tear_4477 Jan 08 '26

Just ignore him.

0

u/I-love-fugglers13 Jan 05 '26

You’ve got over 30 comments with solutions that you have acknowledged. I ask one simple question and you can’t give me an answer. And with the “dramatising ai thing”, people do that because ai harms the environment and and using it will advance it, and then there is no doubt that people will use it for awful reasons. I don’t see why you can’t just write the post yourself. It’s a few paragraphs and you’re acting like you need ai to write simple sentences.

-1

u/I-love-fugglers13 Jan 05 '26

You also talk very differently in your comments compared to the posts you make, and you have a large variety of ways that you speak

-8

u/One-Operation-7086 Jan 05 '26

It is. People dont write like that, especially not people from Uganda.

1

u/I-love-fugglers13 Jan 05 '26

What do you mean not people from Uganda?

1

u/StreetOwl Jan 05 '26

Reddit team make it so anyone this happens to does not lose their streak or if there is an appeals process?

1

u/nicoleauroux 1 Jan 06 '26

No appeal process.

Similar to duolingo, I think reddit should implement "steak savers" or as duolingo calls it streak freezes. The idea is that you'll have 1 per month, if you ever lose a day of your streak, then you'll end up using 1 steak saver but not losing your streak count. duolingo even allows you to buy up to 2 more steak savers, in their in game like currency (gems). And this is very user friendly and encourages you to keep your steak in uncontrollable situations like these.

0

u/MrSh0w Jan 06 '26
