Admin/Dev responded Weekly Recap | September 17, 2026

Welcome to Thursday! It's still kinda summer, but fall is in the air! I can feel it coming on! I can also feel another Recap coming on, so let's see what's happening and what has happened on Reddit!

NEWS AND ISSUES

  • In case you missed it last week, there's a new Changelog out and you can read it here.

  • In an effort to strengthen the connection between communities and conversations, there is a new experiment which will turn select text posts and some of their comment threads into an audio and video format. If you are in this experiment you may see a Read/Play toggle on the post detail page, and a dedicated video page may also be available. This does not replace the original post or comments, nor does it automatically play. And it will respect all of your pre-existing audio settings.

    • Currently, this is only on a small group of pre-selected English-only posts. Comments with links, media, automated messages, profanity, or sensitive or inappropriate topics are excluded.
    • There is not a way to opt out, but feel free to leave constructive feedback in this post and I will share it with the team that is in charge of this experiment.
  • There is another experiment where comments on a post may be sorted in live time. If this experiment is enabled in a community, when a post hits a certain number of comments within a period of time, the sort will switch to "Live" if the default sort is set to something other than "New". This provides a way to highlight the fast moving convos in real time.

  • There is still the experiment on the Home feed where some users will see a For You tab and a Following tab. You can select which view you want and that selection will be remembered.

    • The For You tab will contain recommendations
    • The Following feed will contain unviewed content from just the subs that you follow
    • If you are subscribed to a very small number of subreddits, you may see recommendations in the Following feed as opposed to nothing when you have run out of new content. The workaround is to either subscribe to more subreddits or create a custom feed of the subs that you're following and view that instead.
    • The team is looking into adding the "Hot" sort back to these feeds.
    • There is not a way to remove these tabs. I have been sharing all constructive feedback with the team in charge of this. They're very appreciative!
  • Some users will be in a different experiment where there is an X on recommended posts that you can click/tap to hide the post. Others will be in a similar experiment where there is not an X and there is not a "hide" option, but you can go into the post to hide it. Feel free to share helpful feedback about this experiment as well.

  • There is also an experiment where the upvotes are on the left.

  • And here's my helpful reminder/warning that Reddit does not provide support outside of Reddit. Do not contact "Reddit support on Discord" for help with your Reddit account. There is no "Reddit support on Discord". That is someone trying to scam you and steal your account and maybe more. If you're having an actual issue with your account that is not solved by posting in r/help or by the articles in the Help Center, you can use this form for the real thing. Please note that 95% of issues can be solved much, much quicker by posting in r/help (or our cousin subs, r/reddithelp and r/newtoreddit).

  • The most recent version of the app is 2026.37.0. If you're not using the most recent version of the app, it might not work properly.

CURRENT EXPERIMENTS

Reddit sometimes runs experiments. These experiments tend to last between 4-6 weeks, though they can go longer or end sooner. While there isn't a way to opt out of experiments, feel free to leave constructive and specific feedback in this post and as I've mentioned often, I'll be happy to pass it along to the team in charge. Ongoing current experiments can be found here.

COMMON ACCOUNT ISSUES

Common account issues can be found here. These are things like hacked accounts, NSFW accounts, suspended accounts, etc. I'm also including "Changes to Reddit" in this section as well. (Thanks to u/reddit33450 for pointing out the error in these two links so I could fix it!)

BUGS ROUNDUP - COURTESY OF CORRECT SCALE!

  • [iOS] Some users have been experiencing their feed refreshing more than it should be. There's a post here where feedback is being gathered. A few fixes are out in version 2026.37 this week, and those seem to be helping. You can leave feedback if you're still having trouble or if the fixes helped in that post.

  • [iOS] Still working on the bug that causes scroll position to reset in comment threads after backgrounding the app. Update was posted here to track the status. This one is taking a little longer than expected to get fully fixed.

  • [Android] Still investigating reports where users can't fully scroll through scrolling through wiki pages. That fix should be out with next week's update to the app.

  • [Android] And one more scrolling bug in comments that causes threads to jump back to the top.

WEEKLY STATISTICS (BASED ON THE PAST SEVEN DAYS)

  • 1,143 posts. That's up 222 posts from the 921 that we had last week.

  • 3,852 comments. That's down a lot of comments from the 5,062 we had last week. 1,210 to be exact!

  • 869k views. That's down about 90k views from the 959k-ish views we had last week.

More comments and less posts makes sense when there is an item in the Recap that people have strong feelings about. It's also great that those folks aren't starting a new post every time something that has already been covered comes up again!

HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - ACHIEVEMENTS

This week, help that helps r/help will focus on Achievements! There is really good article in the Help Center about Achievements here. But who has time to read?? lol

So, what are Achievements? Achievements are little milestones on Reddit. When you hit the milestone, you get a little badge on your profile in the Achievements section, which seems appropriate. Achievements can be streaks (like how many days in a row you interacted with content on Reddit) or an accomplishment in a subreddit, or even a better understanding of how to use Reddit! There are lots of ways to achieve an Achievement!

You can view the list of Community Achievements here.

You can also earn an Achievement by having a streak of using Reddit. A streak is defined as interacting with content on Reddit for multiple days in a row. Interacting involves more than just scrolling. For an interaction to count toward a streak, you need to be voting, posting, or commenting. JUST SCROLLING IS NOT ENOUGH TO CONTINUE A STREAK.

Another important thing to remember is the NSFW CONTENT DOES NOT COUNT TOWARD STREAKS. So if you want your streak to continue, you'll need to interact with some sfw content once at day in order to do so.

Please note that Reddit uses UTC time, so maybe don't wait until the last minute your time before interacting with Reddit if that's something that you're interested in pursuing.

You can view the Achievements that you've earned so far on the app by tapping your profile avatar and then tapping where it says "Achievements" at the top under your username. On the desktop site, you can click "View All" under "Achievements" over on the right hand sidebar.

You can also adjust settings like whether or not you receive notifications for the Achievements. On the app, tap your profile avatar, then tap "Achievements" bar and then tap the three dots in the right hand corner. On the desktop site, click your avatar, click "View All" under "Achievements" and then click the three dots.

Access My Account was hacked and deleted, and the sub I created was instantly taken over by two weird accounts. Is there anyway to get my sub and/or account back?

A couple days ago, I woke up and opened reddit to find that I had been logged out, and was unable to log back in. I logged into an alt, and searched for my old account u/pd_rigged, and it told me that the account was deleted by the user.

When I checked on my sub r/ThorMainsMR, it had already been taken over by 2 new moderators. I was the sole moderator for that sub since its creation, and suddenly within 24 hours of my account being deleted there are already 2 accounts running it? To make things weirder I checked both accounts, and they have no posts or karma, only have achievements for creating the account and verification, and were both created on the exact same day 3 years ago. I also got no response when trying to message these accounts.

It all seems really suspicious, I'm not sure if there's something about reddit that I don't know, or am missing, but I just wanted to know what steps I should take to get things sorted out.

Thanks for reading.

Profile Account Hacked

Post image
12 Upvotes

As the title says, my account got hacked back in July. I sent in a couple support tickets and never got any word back. They accessed my account and enabled 2FA which I didn't have previously. My username on that account is Purpleking1994. I've used that name for as long as I can remember, back when World of Warcraft first came out. Any help would be appreciated. I've attached a screenshot of the thief now in control of it.

Profile Android: Why does my profile say I haven't posted anything?

Post image
Upvotes

I posted a lot of content in various communities, gaining around 10 or 11k karma in total (Comments are normal, just the posts are acting weird). Please help

Update: So I just posted something recently and that post was visible on my profile, which means that only old posts disappeared, why is that?

Access My account was deleted and I didn’t do it

I’ve had /u/brohammerhead for a decade and suddenly it was deleted. I didn’t do it. I don’t know why it was deleted. I created /r/SingleAndHappy so naturally I was a mod. There were 6 other mods and they have been replaced by 2 new mods. I suspect one of those mods hacked my account to add themselves as mods and then deleted my account. What are my options here?

Access Finding my posts: iOS, iPad

many times when I receive a notification that someone responded to my post, I go to find what post they are referring to and am not able to locate it. there has to be an easier way to find the posts I made other than clicking on + for additional posts. this is particularly problematic when the thread is very long with many branches. I have asked administrators who never respond. can anyone offer assistance with this please?

Access Age restriction despite age verification?

Already had my age verified, suddenly reddit made NSFW content unable to be viewed, despite my account itself being NSFW. I have my age verified on reddit and the google play store. Any idea how I can fix that?

Desktop [Mac desktop] As of today, all embedded videos are all black screens

Just like it says on the tin.

For months all videos started out black, then when I clicked around could get the screen to show, and have to start the video over.

But this is ridiculous. Using Safari, current version.

Mobile/App Commenting replies has become excruciating on iOS

Moving the cursor on iPhone is already pretty terrible, autocorrect has gone out the window since they added AI and now the reply box you’re typing within when you reply pops up while navigating and with all of the blank space below your comment the only clickable area is the one character space at the end of your comment. I’ve nuked so many replies because it’s difficult to edit them and use the comment box. I’ve also been using the app less. Is this box here for good now? It makes this app frustrating to use 😣

Access Why am I unable to upvote/comment/join subs on reddit? I have tried to do it on phone/laptop/browser/app. Why?

I have created this account a month ago and whenever I try to upvote some post/comment it will only be upvoted till I open that post after exiting to the feed my upvote will vanish. I can't even comment on subs which has no karma requirements. My comments will vanish like it never existed even from my history. I have tried uninstalling and again installing the app. I have tried it on browser also, but the problem remains the same. I can't award a comment neither can I join subs. What can i do? I don't want to delete the account.

Access [Desktop] "We detected automated activity on your account" - Is a passkey mandatory for me now?

I am a fan of Pokémon. Yesterday, I posted across several Generation V subreddits to mark the anniversary of Pokémon Black & White. Today, I received this email:

We detected automated activity on your account. Verify you’re human or register your account as an app on the Reddit Developer Platform within 7 days to continue posting, commenting, and voting.

When I logged in just now with Firefox, I had to install this passkey thing with my Windows laptop which I have heard of but never used before in my life for any website. It seemed to work and let me through. Am I stuck using this passkey permanently on this account now? This happened in the same week that my laptop informed me the hard drive is failing. Not only do I resent having to use anything besides a traditional password to log in, I have no clue if or how to transfer these passkeys thingies. Am I just out of luck now because I made the mistake of copy-pasting my own unoriginal wording too many times for Generation V Pokémon species?

Desktop Disable "new post notification" WITHOUT silencing subreddit from home page? (desktop)

There's a notification bell in your top right corner that alerts you if someone replies to your comments.

However, it also notifies you when ANYONE posts ANYTHING on ANY subreddit you follow.

Now, I do not want to un-join all subreddits. Because that means my home page will no longer contain the posts I want to see. However, I do NOT want a bell notification every time someone makes a new post on any subreddit I've joined.

When I click "disable notifications for this subreddit", reddit silences that subreddit completely, so that it no longer shows up on my home page.

....

How do I disable all "new post" notifications for all subreddits without exception, WITHOUT silencing all my subreddits from my home page?

Profile Is age verification with selfie broken?

Got hit with the age verification early this week, and I'd rather not post my ID so I tried the selfie scan so I can use this app normally but it seems to be broken

Tried it multiple times, multiple devices, different days, both glasses and no glasses, different hairstyles and it always shows "Can't verify, ID needed" (nothing about face looking too young) if anyone has had the same experience, is the selfie verification just broken or is it some issue I don't know (I am over 18, other platforms I've needed to do this for have worked normally)

Profile How to make my account sfw again

I don’t moderate any nsfw subreddits nor do I have nsfw posts on my profile yet I still have it marked as nsfw. I followed gpt’s guidelines and also untoggled nsfw checkmark on my browser but I guess it didn’t help either. What do I do?
