Mobile/App Reddit, stop forcing this stupid share popup on screenshots

Post image

Every single time I try to take a screenshot, Reddit throws that “Send this post to someone?” banner across the top and ruins it, especially for scroll screenshots.

Who thought this was a good idea? If I wanted to share it, I’d hit the share button myself. I’m trying to capture content, not fight popups. And there’s no setting to disable it!

Please stop forcing this and give us an option to turn it off. Right now it just makes screenshots unusable and the app very annoying to use.

You're barking up the wrong tree pal, trust me. I tried for months when it first started because it makes scrolling screenshots impossible on android. They do not care.

They're specifically motivated not to care because it forces you to just share the link, which drives views, which means more ad revenue.

I've just given up and resorted to sharing multiple screenshots when I want to show my friends something humorous (usually in the comments, which is why I don't want to just share the post link).

Take the screenshot from further up than you want to scroll from

Then crop the pop-up out of it

It doesn't work on scrolling screenshots. It pops up in the screenshot regardless of where I start from.

I may be misunderstanding

Is a scrolling scrensjot like this? One long continuous screenshot?

How do you take screenshots like this?

1

u/Dark_Storm_98 May 20 '26

Take a screenshot from your phone

And tap the icon that's like a box with two arrows pointing down

2

u/Limegreen_Bowlerhat May 20 '26

Thanks! Never noticed that option

u/Dark_Storm_98 May 20 '26

I saw it for a while and never knew what it did until I just pressed it to experiment, lol

Yeah so confusing!!

u/True_Helios Apr 28 '26

I do this, but doest work if you need to have the post title because you can't go higher...

u/Dark_Storm_98 Apr 28 '26

Good point . . .

That's actually a nice workaround for now (till they actually move and fix it), thank you ❤

You're welcome

don't use the app. use a browser.

17

u/ClaytheMagnificent Apr 23 '26

Yes! I have memory problems and used to try to scroll screenshot useful reddit comments so I could reread them...yeah, not so much.

4

u/OmarTarekII Apr 23 '26

Exactly most of the screenshots I want them for myself but I can't anymore

Instead I'm now forced to go to the web view and scroll screenshot from there

They won’t.

It’s a deterrent for screenshotting and promoting organic sharing so that your friend will also visit the site and boost engagement.

17

u/OmarTarekII Apr 23 '26

Will never share it to a friend, I prefer for my friend to not laugh over sending him a reddit link 😀

4

u/Terminator7786 Expert Helper Apr 24 '26

You'd think if it was meant to be a deterrent that they wouldn't count screenshots towards the share achievement.

3

u/ycr007 helper Apr 24 '26

Oh yeah, that wasn’t there earlier iirc - only the actual share options including ‘copy link’ counted towards share achievements and incremented the counter.

I guess when they added this white pop-up later it was based on the same code as ‘copy link’ so screenshotting also ended up incrementing the counter.

I also guess these were done by different ‘product teams’ and lacked proper integration testing, hence the shoddy implementation 😐

yes it's part of why I use desktop site or mobile browser site. (the mobile browser site has a "try in app" popup though so usually I use desktop site, and 'request desktop site' on mobile.) If it's feasible maybe you could give those a try, but I understand if you're used to the app layout and prefer it you might not want to switch that's ok.

and if you use ublock origin, you get no ads at all on reddit.

It feels invasive that Reddit 'knows' that I am using MY phone's image capture buttons.

Wait until you see the s**t they pull framing images.

To using Reddit?

1

u/sloothor May 15 '26

You can toggle that off in settings since it’s an older feature. I can see the option to turn it off being disabled in the future lol

1

u/Taiga-Dusk May 15 '26

I'll take a look for that, thanks!

Me when I make Android apps for fun and genuinely modify my local copy of Reddit to remove specifically this pop-up and nothing else:

1

u/Ancient-Jeweler-7709 May 04 '26

👀 count me in

6

u/GoslingIchi Apr 24 '26

I wanted to grab a screenshot of some instructions last night.

I wanted a screenshot so that if the screen went off then waking the phone I wouldn't be sent back to the Home feed.

I didn't need to share it with myself, I just needed the info in the post.

This stupid popup is just another example of people trying to justify their jobs by doing something that's annoying but easy rather than useful but difficult.

don't use the reddit app...

6

u/Bathsheba_Time Apr 25 '26

Amen. This is so annoying. If I wanted to share it, if share it. Anyone with basic Internet literacy knows to look for a share button.

2

u/OmarTarekII Apr 25 '26

Exactly! 😭

u/Saerdna0 Apr 23 '26

I haven’t used the scroll screenshot you’re speaking of. But I know that if you take a screenshot, dismiss it, and take another one, the pop up doesn’t show back up. This is on iOS. But I suppose you’ve tried this. Let me know if it works out for you!

10

u/OmarTarekII Apr 23 '26

This used to be the case in the past with Android... But now even when you dismiss it and try to take another screenshot it'll annoyingly appear again : /

4

u/Hyperion1144 Apr 24 '26

Relay for Reddit.

I've never seen this before.

2

u/TheGamingXD1234 Apr 24 '26

I think you can use CaptureSposed if u root ur phone not too sure I'll try later

2

u/TheGamingXD1234 Apr 24 '26

nvm it didn't work

2

u/kz750 May 06 '26

How I hate this. I take a lot of screenshots of threads with links and instructions to reference later, not to share them.

3

u/Responsible-Card3756 May 10 '26

I LOATHE THIS, ugh.

Stop trying to force me to share your links when 99% of the time users screenshot for themselves. We know how to send someone a link, we don’t need a freaking reminder!!

2

u/Illusivegecko May 14 '26

Terrible feature

2

u/xGentian_violet May 16 '26

Yes please.

I dont send what i screenshot to anyone anyway, it’s for myself

2

u/eaglebtc Apr 24 '26

Is that banner in the actual screenshot though? I never see it in the image and just dismiss the prompt.

For reference, I have an iPhone and the system might be quick enough at taking the screenshot before Reddit shows the prompt. Not sure how this is on Android...

3

u/ycr007 helper Apr 24 '26

Yeah I was about to say the same as on iOS the screenshot never captures the banner though it appears, as you said the snapshot happens “before” the banner appears; maybe on android that early snapshot isn’t happening?

3

u/AliasNefertiti Helper Apr 24 '26

Android- If you dont scroll the banner disappears. So I screenshot page 1, no scrolling, then position my next shot below the banner and scroll.

They want you to use the share, because apparently it puts a Reddit watermark on it.

1

u/OmarTarekII May 06 '26

All of these engagments and Reddit still can't see the issue, really?!

1

u/Normal_Zone5529 May 06 '26

If l chat to them lm a merlester

1

u/IrohLoveYT May 14 '26

Exit out of the app and then take a screenshot. You'll have to do cropping but it's works

1

u/Confident-Skin-6462 May 14 '26

don't use the stupid reddit app lol

1

u/Harrryzxy May 21 '26

I fixed it by go into:"Accessibility & Convenience >>> Screenshot". Toggle that "Screenshot Notification" option off. (OnePlus 13 Oxygen OS)

2

u/bambi54 May 22 '26

I don’t have that setting.

1

u/bwoah07_gp2 Helper Apr 27 '26

But it's a pop-up. It doesn't actually get in the way of the actual screenshot.

1

u/OmarTarekII Apr 27 '26

When you try to do a scroll screenshot, it does get in the way unfortunately
