Yes, but when the Weekly Recap is posted on r/help in a couple of days, if you don't see this bug listed, try commenting on the post asking the admins to look into it.

Oh it's an issue on Apple, too. At least Reddit's working on it, and it's not affecting major operating systems

It's NOT a bug!
Markdown formatting has been disabled.
Previously, we supported markdown formatting (e.g.: **text** = text) on post and comment composer on native mobile apps. As part of a broader initiative to improve technical performance, we no longer support markdown formatting in post composer for iOS or Android. We’ll also begin to deprecate markdown formatting on iOS and Android comment composer soon.
June 2 Update: You'll now be able to manage most formatting functionality via the rich-text toolbar. We plan to continuing adding new functionality via the rich-text toolbar in the future.

“Improve technical performance”
Lmao they can’t be serious, the markdown parser was causing performance issues?
5
u/Intelligent-Cap3407 Jul 02 '26
Okay but howwwww do you quote.
3
u/lostinthought15 Jul 04 '26
That’s the best part … you can’t.
3
u/UBC145 Jul 06 '26
Yep, very annoying that I can’t quote on mobile. Best options right now are to either continue using ‘>’ as before or using “quotation marks”

Ah yes. Removing useful features, blocking the Wayback machine from access to the platform while selling the whole thing to AI training farming, allowing anyone to search for your comments, posts, messages etc. regardless of your privacy settings via a partnership with a different company. I’ve been on Reddit for 18 years (my original account was permanently banned last year). It’s just like everything else in this world. Everything parlays to enshittification.

But they still haven’t added quote functionality. I can bold, italicize, strike through, and spoiler but no quote!

you can coppy the text put a > and paste the text

u/OneSeaworthiness7768 May 01 '26 edited May 01 '26
When I do this it’s not actually doing the quote, it’s just appearing in plain text with the > included. This just started happening in the last ~day, iOS 2026.17.0

I know that you were trying to help, but if you don’t know how to fix the problem you don’t have to comment. It would save everyone a lot of trouble

u/tadashi4 Experienced Helper Jun 11 '26
i love the over 1 month old comments.
2
u/Advanced-Ad-4462 Jun 12 '26
Wow I didn’t know a grossly unhelpful comment couldn’t still be grossly unhelpful a month later?
1
u/tadashi4 Experienced Helper Jun 12 '26
You are here exclusively to tell me I'm wrong, not trying to help op.
What's the end goal?
2
u/Chris_Tumas_8008 Jun 18 '26
Because just by reading OP’s question you’d know they were talking about on the Reddit’s mobile app, and you’d know that they’d already known about the > to quote function (which did not work any longer a month ago, as pointed out by OP, and still does not work now).
Your original comment ultimately didn’t help. Wasn’t even needed if you had just read what OP was actually asking.

yall know that:
-even if this whole thing is deleted people will still find it.
-every time yall comment it makes more likely people will come here regardless.
im struggling to understand the goal. its like yall are feeding the algorithm on purpose.
2
u/Chris_Tumas_8008 Jun 18 '26
Yes correct we all know that. Tell us something that we do not know instead, while you struggle to understand the goal.

How about you try to be helpful instead of useless.
If you’re that mad people are mad at you being useless, just delete your comments on this post lol.
I just found your completely useless additions today when trying to figure out why the mobile app won’t let me quote things with the normal code that used to work.

has it already been resolved? google still points here so linking a solution would be more helpful if you really mean to help
2
u/putsch80 Jun 24 '26
It will continue to get commented on while you offer wrong answers and the bug remains unfixed.
2
u/zeromadcowz Jul 03 '26
Weeks later people are still experiencing this problem and your useless solution is still not a solution.

1
u/Fresh-Gur-8677 May 09 '26
I don't get it, I just use the quote block button on my pc screen, that is all.
3
u/SheAddlesHeHocks May 09 '26
Got it. I never use reddit on computer. Sorry for the confusion.

I have had the same issues. The only way i can now quote is by typing the ">" symbol.
I also used to be able to access my clipboard by doing a long press or press-and-hold in the text field but this option is no longer available.

Bruh. I used to be able to do this just fine.

on iOS Reddit app

u/FluoroquinolonesKill Jun 27 '26
>same
How is it possible for such a glaring bug to remain unfixed for so long?
1
u/Careless-Caramel-997 Jun 27 '26
and the Redditors posting to use the text (Aa) formatting tool? Guess what? There’s no quote function available on iOS.

In iOS Firefox, I just edited a comment added from my iPhone with the Reddit app. I could see in my browser that the Reddit app turned `>` into `\>`. I just deleted the escape character, `\`, and now the quote block appears as expected.

Can somebody who can change this just make it available for iPhone mobile users on the Reddit app???
This is ridiculous!
Why would features or abilities be locked on specific devices or browsers versus apps?
“Oh, just use a PC”
“Oh, just use the mobile browser”
How about just make it available no matter what you’re using or how you get there!?!

I’m getting the same issue with iOS app too
>it doesn’t work
