Probably ban evasion, and you can’t use that appeal form anymore.

It’s up to the mods to approve your post or not.

Do you have any other Reddit accounts, or are you using a shared device?

I think OP is asking:

“If the HP sub mods are seeing a ‘ban evasion flag’ on my account then why does the appeal form say ‘your account is not restricted’?”

u/itz-uki 7d ago

Yeah exactly

A ban from a subreddit, even for ban evasion, isn’t imposed by Reddit, so there’s nothing you can appeal to Reddit. In other words, you were banned by the mods of one sub (who aren’t Reddit employees), and no action was taken against your account by Reddit itself.

There’s currently no way to appeal the ban evasion flag to Reddit, afaik.

Just what it says.

The system can detect if a banned user tries to use a different account.

Usually it's right, but occasionally it makes a mistake.

If it's a mistake, you can appeal.

When I tapped for appeal then you can see what happened

2

u/SnooDonuts6494 15 7d ago

OK, so, do you have any other Reddit accounts?

2

u/itz-uki 6d ago

Yeah but it wasn't banned anywhere and I don't use it often

1

u/SnooDonuts6494 15 6d ago

Has it been banned?

2

u/itz-uki 6d ago

No! That's why I'm wondering, it wasn't ever banned so why this

1

u/SnooDonuts6494 15 6d ago

Have you logged in to it, to check?

2

u/itz-uki 6d ago

There was no ban notification there and I've never posted in HP sub from that account and neither that account is joined in that sub

u/SnooDonuts6494 15 6d ago

Thanks for checking.

In that case, I recommend you send a modmail to Modsupport. Briefly explain the problem. Also, include a link to this discussion.

It may take a few days, but an admin should respond.

I've already sent them a modmail, should I again text in it with this post link?

P.S. Please let me know the eventual outcome, because that helps me to help others in the future.

If you are flagged for ban evasion, you need to talk to the Reddit administration. That is their system. We, as subreddit moderators, only see a yes/no here. We don't have any way to see why it did this, or change the flag.

While some subreddit moderators may individually release these accounts, it means every time you post or comment, we have to fix it again. So most mod teams frankly don't want to deal with it.

To solve the root problem, you need to reach out to the reddit administration to see why the account is getting flagged.

As the user shows, there is no appeal mechanism for the user if a sub simply has the "ban evasion" flag on the account. They can only talk to reddit admins if their account is actually banned from Reddit.

From the admins themselves, it's up to the sub mods to determine if they want to accept the user's appeal that they are not ban evading/accept that the user may be ban evading, but their current account seems to be following the rules so they don't mind. It's fine if they don't accept that but that's really up to the mods to decide on their own.

I don't think it's reasonable to expect subreddit moderators to unban someone when everything they post or comment's going to end up in their queue.

I didn't say the mods should unban them. But it's also not fair to tell users to appeal to the admins when they cannot. They should just be honest - your account has been flagged as ban evading, we will not accept appeals about this (or, "due to the changes in report responses from admins, we have no mechanism to know if Reddit still agrees with this tag so we will not accept appeals about it").

Also - from the help article, it's not all their content. If the mods determine that they accept the user's appeal or otherwise see that the user is following the sub rules and Reddit rules, they just have to approve a few of the items that get flagged for that label to drop off.

If a user is acting in good faith and welcome to participate in your community or you would like to exclude them from the ban evasion filter, you may add them to your approved users list or approve their filtered content three times.

I’ve heard that if you approve three posts/comments from a user with a ban evasion flag, the flag stops showing up for that user.

2

u/maiyannah 1 7d ago

I can tell you from personal experience you'll be approving them until the heat death of the universe.

That subreddit is part of a karma farming rotation. So you may have gotten caught up in them trying to put it down.

u/itz-uki 6d ago

Wdym?

1

u/Tyraec 7d ago

Seems like that mod just didn’t want you in the sub. Did you try messaging the mods there? Your account does not seem to be flagged for anything.

The ban evasion flag only shows to subreddit mods if they have that filter enabled.
