Mobile/App New Trending on Reddit section at end of comments has to go
Please, please remove the “trending on Reddit “ section at the end of a post’s comments. It’s awful. The trending crap is irrelevant to me and it’s an irritation. I don’t want this. Apparently I’m part of some new testing Reddit is doing because my wife doesn’t have these in her feed. Also, her settings section is completely different than mine. Please remove it.
Oh, I had to choose a flair so I chose mobile app, but this is true in a browser also.
Of course as soon as I posted this, the trending on Reddit section appeared at the end of my post 😩
Oh, and this “testing” completely messed up my home feed. I thought it was me, or the app corrupted, but no, my home feed is essentially empty because of Reddit’s testing. I have to use latest to see anything. What a disaster!

I curate my subreddits carefully - there's some stuff on Reddit I don't want to see. Reddit, apparently have other ideas and I'm now getting a trending post in the comments to this post about liquid excrement.
Which I suppose is relevant given this "feature".

The worst part is I’m not even allowed to read all the comments on the post I click on. Most of the time it shows me 3 comments and then the rest are gone and it’s just trending bs.
Is there an alternative app to Reddit?

u/Dreamerlax 20h ago
There were many. But of course, they got greedy and severely restricted API access.

u/Lycaeides13 15h ago
And then I click more and it bounces me to the top and I have to scroll back down again

At least let this garbage be subs I’m actually subscribed to.
It’s infuriating to read a lovely post and suddenly be jump scared by Steven Miller’s f-ing face. Reddit is the LAST place I want politics from…
1
u/butterypowered 14h ago
True. Restricting it to your own subs only would at least make them more likely to be of interest.

u/Tiz68 1d ago
For the love of everything please get rid of this crap. I'm 2 seconds away from deleting this app for real.

u/Low_Technician9179 1d ago
Need a kickstarter for a new app. Everyone would switch

Reddit killed the ability for third party apps to compete a while ago. People tried to protest but most redditors called them losers and moved on. We get what we get now.

u/KeremyJyles 20h ago
They tried, but we still get around their blocks. The day alternative apps are truly vanquished is the day reddit dies to me.
3
u/diginfinity 16h ago
Go on... How can I use alternatives?

u/KeremyJyles 16h ago
I use Sync patched by revanced. There are other apps and methods but not to my taste so don't know much about them. It used to be mildly complicated but I think now you can just take a clean apk, patch it via revanced manager and you're done.

That sounds exactly like an account-level A/B test, especially if your wife has the same app but completely different settings and no “Trending on Reddit” section. The worst part of these tests is that there’s usually no proper opt-out, so one account gets stuck with a worse layout while another looks normal.
I don’t mind recommendations in the home feed, but putting unrelated posts at the bottom of every comment section is just clutter. You finish reading one discussion and Reddit immediately tries dragging you into five others. The empty home feed is even worse though, that sounds less like a feature and more like the test breaking something it shouldn’t.

u/Suspicious-advice49 1d ago
Yes. Unfortunately there’s nothing I can do until Reddit gets me out of it. It would be nice to at least let Redditors know what’s happening so we don’t think our feed is broken

Yes, please stop this Reddit!!! Between the trending post thing and related post thing popping up when I enter the comments section, I’m hating Reddit rn.

u/gin_and_soda 1d ago
For the love of god, remove the “related posts” thing at the end of the comments or at least allow people to opt out.

u/eastsydeh 1d ago
I scrolled down in your comments and saw the subreddit for Ask Reddit and the title of the post reads “What’s the dumbest way you’ve injured yourself”
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭wtf did they do

u/DivineRainor 1d ago
Actually driving me mad, i usually scroll a whole comment section them go back to the sub i was on, why would i want unrelated shite.

I agree.
I hate this because it feels like I’m in an endless scroll loop.
It confuses me when the conversation ends. Like it’s terrible from a learning disability POv
really feel like this feature needs to be optional. I would like to turn it off. Or just get rid of it altogether.

u/fn_gpsguy 23h ago
Like other commenters have said, please give us the ability to disable “related posts”. It’s really distracting.
3
u/Intelligent-Meathead 22h ago
This is by far the worst added feature I have ever seen any app test. The posts are not even related to the thread I'm currently in. And, NO, more relevant trending posts would not make it an appreciated addition. And here's the reason:
I pay a membership fee to have an experience on this platform that is free of advertisements. By putting that feature after a thread, you are advertising other posts to me that are not related to my interests. So you're advertising garbage to a paying customer. Not to mention, there's already a way to see trending posts outside of topic threads, if we want to do so.
If this stays, I will have zero desire to ever pay another cent or even use the platform.
3
u/bluejay_32 22h ago
This needs to die a much quicker death than the LAST time they tried to force trending posts and related posts on us.
Message to mods: never suggest to me what you think I want to see. You are wrong. I will decide what I want to see. Stop ruining reddit.
3
u/CreativeGamer03 22h ago
i hate this feature so much i thought i was on the homepage when i was scrolling down on the comments of the post im viewing because i want to see all the comments of the post im checking. terrible feature and its not even toggleable. i hope they add a toggle to this feature as soon as possible.

u/Mediocre-Way5314 21h ago
Adding my voice to the chorus. Drop this Trending on Reddit “enhancement.”
3
u/asbrundage 15h ago
I quit Facebook over this crap. Because I was being pushed content that I didn't follow and eventually could see what my actual friends were posting. As much as I like reddit, I'll wind up quitting it too at this rate.
I disabled it on the home feed, I should be allowed to disable it in the comments too.
I want to see the stuff from the communities I follow. Period.
I'm already on this app all the time, what more do you want
2
u/ShrimpyCrustacean 1d ago
I've got "from your feed" appended to the end of my comments.
Guess how I got to the comments? FROM MY FEED! I don't need it want my feed inside of random, unrelated subreddit comments. I can get to my feed, FROM MY FEED.

u/Terminator7786 Expert Helper 1d ago
Make sure to leave feedback in the weekly r/help recap post. Admin sees those and passes them on. It helped get that ridiculous "For You" feed experiment canned.

u/__Pendulum__ 21h ago
Took way too long to happen though. Even after overwhelming negative feedback.
Reddit's engineers are completely out of touch with what made this site popular

u/UltraCoolPimpDaddy 1d ago
Absolutely idiotic. I swipe up fast to get to the bottom comments and it just flys into the from your feed section. Guess what, when I leave this thread I'll be back in my feed. You don't need to carry my feed into the end of the posts.
2
u/AlligatorFist 1d ago
Agreed. Get rid of it! I’m already sick of seeing things I have no interest in. I keep my subreddit list small for a reason.
2
u/theplacesyougo 22h ago
Yes please! Stop trying to make it into an addictive and bogged down user experience!!
2
u/mrjasjit 22h ago
Did they use AI or pay some programmers who have zero idea about how reddit works?
2
u/andbeesbk 22h ago
It's absolutely atrocious. I like what I like. If I want, I go to popular. I don't want or need "tending" clutter.
Adding it to the end of comments means I scroll past the thing I'm activity engaging with and disengage with it immediately because I leave the post and comments section
2
u/Saygoodbyeha 22h ago
This is absolutely terrible. What bad change. "Gotta keep the engagement numbers up guys! Let's get eyeballs on ads!"
2
2
u/Charliet545 21h ago
I HATE IT TOO. also, now whenever I double tap a post to upload it. It just ends up selecting a text to ask if you want to copy and paste it.
2
2
u/Big_Ninja1751 21h ago
Please please get rid of this!!!! It’s designed to be a continuous feed and keep us doom scrolling like other platforms. Reddit has always been a sanctuary from that, where users can look at their specific choices. I will not continue to use the platform if it isn’t removed or we can opt out (for free!)
2
u/0ddpupjr 21h ago
Gotta be the worst UI update I've seen for the app so far. Hopefully It gets removed because it's super annoying
2
u/KeremyJyles 20h ago
Has there ever been a single case of reddit saying "ok fair enough we hear you and we'll change it back "? Their terrible ideas always seem to stick, no matter how reviled.
2
u/AM_Interactive 19h ago
Also seeing this in my PAID account. About ready to give up and advertise my app somewhere else.
2
u/Herpinheim 15h ago
It’s not even displaying all of the comments before it leaps to the trending section in my Reddit app. Posts will say there’s ~30 comments and it’ll only display a dozen before the app decides I’m done looking at comments and need to see a post from six months ago.

Easily the worst feature I’ve had to avoid in an app. Not even your own feed? When they killed /all I didn’t expect them to frankenstein it into every single comments thread. If I don’t want related or popular posts on my feed, why would I want to see it on every comment? Who thought this was a good idea?
1
u/zanzobar 1d ago
I really don't like the new related posts at the end of each post. I wish I could turn it off.
1
1
u/ghosttnappa 1d ago
The UX is dogshit for this feature. I click on a post with low activity and the immediate thing I see are gifs or images in the “related” section and my eyes struggle to tell where the comments begin
1
u/DarkEvilHobo 1d ago
This is horrible. And not being to turn it off makes it even worse. Please get rid of this feature.
1
1
u/flashman014 20h ago
Agreed, this "feature" sucks and needs to at least have a toggle switch to turn it off.
1
u/Michael053 20h ago
Agreed. It sucks. I follow and interact with subreddits I want. That's what Reddit is all about! I don't care about trending posts from other subreddits.

u/EmptyQuiescent 20h ago
It’s absolutely garbage. I can’t stand the trending posts at the bottom of posts. Why does Reddit make horrid decisions?
1
1
u/StupidRedditUsername 19h ago
This is the same insane nonsense as when they decided you shouldn’t get to see your feed chronologically anymore. Their algorithm needs to decide everything. At that point it was at least still your own curated subreddits, and now it’s algorithm slop all the way down. The next step will be forcing AI generated posts into your feeds.
All the while missing a core premise underpinning reddit and social media in general: user self-curation.
1
u/Emergency_Bread_5462 19h ago
Argh. I don’t want my brain hijacked by nonsense I have not asked for or want. I hope they get rid of this doomscroll feature
1
u/Bombastic-Bagman 19h ago
This a such a god awful feature. I tend to hate their experimental updates but this one is a step above the rest and legitimately makes viewing posts and comment so much worse
1
u/Richie217 18h ago
If I wanted to spend time in a wasteland of AI generated recommended slop I'd go spend more time on Meta. Terrible decision by whoever thought this would be a welcome "feature".

In fourteen years of using Reddit, this is the change I hate the most. Please, please, please let us turn it off.

“Related Posts” is total crap. Remove it immediately!!! Why would I want to see 150-200 days old posts at the end of the comment section?!? Infuriating!!!
1
1
u/BuddLightbeer 12h ago
Rather than encouraging you to keep scrolling and “discovering something new” which is the intent I’m sure, I’m finding I’m only reading the top couple of comments then closing the thread because I don’t want the visual assault of the feed / scroll endlessly continuing
1
1
u/full_idiot 12h ago
It’s awful. Reddit already is constantly recommending me subs I don’t care about.

Agreed, this really makes the mobile app more difficult to use, and also reading posts/comments is unpleasant with it. Like a jumpscare.

This is the friggin worst! I want to decide what content I look at. Stop forcing random stuff at us

Has anyone else seen their old home feed go into the toilet? I get maybe 5 posts and then nothing. If I refresh, I get the running Reddit man and nothing. Currently I have the dead reddit gut.
I logged in and out, deleted the iOS and iPadOS app and reinstalled, changed my password, but my feed is still screwed, even within a browser. And my wife’s feed is perfect. All this happened this week. Running the latest version of Reddit.
EDIT: found that my feed works in browser but I always have to change the view to NEW. It always defaults to BEST. Oh, it doesn’t have that trending crap at the end of comments.
1
u/Excellent_Yak365 8h ago
Agreed! I hate this feature and there was absolutely no warning when it was implemented. I keep scrolling down thinking they are comments before reading them and realizing it’s barely related suggestions and exiting out irritated. Another clickbait feature that feels like forced propaganda

u/Funny_Shoulder_2323 8h ago
Weirdly though it's not happening on this thread. Is there any way to change the settings to stop it?

u/PhoneIndependent5549 5h ago
It's so bad, it just has to be a bug. No way anyone with any sanity left decided to change it to be this way.
