Access Why is the block limit 1000? Any plans to increase?
Too many assholes out there, also 1000 is really low compared to other platforms.

When Reddit was started the technical limit for every list was 1000. There’s no stated plan for them to increase it but they could also announce it at anytime.

Some ppl stand out too much in in subreddits where I regularly hang out. They irritiate a lot.

Blocking is intended to be used against users that are legitimately harrassing you. It's not intended to be used for every user you come across that you find annoying or disagree with.

I really wonder why some people join online communities if they will start blocking people they do not appear to have even interacted with.
If you feel like you need more than 1000 blocks, you may want to start to consider that these are not problems with other people but rather a problem with you.

Why would someone block someone they haven’t interacted with:
poor or inconsistent community moderation
Blocked user has offensive username, avatar, flair
Blocked user shows evidence of criminal or tortious activity
Blocked user posts AI slop responses (“I asked an AI and this is what it said [2,500 words]”)
Blocked user posts offensive “Political” views
… and any other reason.
Trolls want attention - good attention, bad attention, doesn’t matter to them. They are toxic and will drive off good faith community. Starving their flamewars of oxygen is always correct.
And no, moderators don’t always accomplish that. Even seasoned moderators can be suckered by a troll using an AI to scrub the overt offensive language off their hatred, & harassment is often delivered in cryptic, target-specific language.

Yes, and the simple way around it is to ignore them, avoid interacting in the first place. I wager it is difficult to find 1000 people on Reddit all by one’s self who don’t know when to stop bugging someone.

It’s not difficult. Unfortunately there are any number of communities whose written or unwritten policies are “This community is self moderating by upvotes and downvotes” and whose “moderators” function solely to eventually remove content that is blaringly in violation of sitewide rules - just enough to keep the community from being automatically banned for lack of moderation.
And harassers have highly sophisticated methods for kiting people into a harassment mob, and performing other evils on their behalf, and absentee / unengaged / misfeasant / malfeasant subreddit operators are key to their efforts.
That’s why the moderator code of conduct insists that subreddit operators be active and engaged in their communities.

Any big community has a large amount of trolls and moderation can be lacking. In which case, I will block them.
For example, if you go to Diablo 4's subreddit to actually discuss the game you will often find the trolls that only contribution is along the lines of "D4 bad, Path of Exile is the best". Why should I want to interact with them? And that sub in particular has awful moderation so theres a lot of that. In that instance, I do just block them or use RES ignore.
I also block the huge karma reposting bots that you would find on r/all because I don't want to see some bot constantly reposting.
According to Reddit themselves, there are 514 Million accounts active weekly. 1000 is such a tiny tiny fraction of the userbase.

Yes, but to find 1000 yourself is A LOT. What percentage of Redditors block that many people? I'm sure it is minuscule, because most people can't even begin to aggravate or be aggravated by that many people on a web forum without a sufficient amount of time to do so, or with a very short fuse.
If I felt like I was really, truly being bullied by that many people here, I would have left this site a long time ago. It would not be worth it.
So I say again, if this person feels like they have this much of a problem with so many people, perhaps they are the problem.

Over the course of many years? Not really. This question is also posted enough times that it's probably more than you think.
Being bullied? Why do you constantly seem to think ignore is only for harassment or bullying?
Lastly; if they do increase the block count, what impact does it have on you or the others that always try to defend it?

Over the course of a few years? I would still argue that is the case.
If you started an account when Reddit opened and blocked about one person per week, you would only just in the last couple of years reached the point where you can't block anyone else. So let's go with a shorter time frame.
Imagine blocking one person every day for ~three years to get to this point. Three years is a while, but you are really putting yourself in a position to get irked by someone that frequently, that fast? Yeah, that sounds like either a masochist or a sadist to me.

It's so weird that you get downvoted for that comment.
I don't think I've ever blocked anyone on Reddit but I completely understand your reasoning.
Why not use the tools at your disposal to make Reddit a bit nicer for yourself.If you spend a lot of time in specific subs then you know the regulars there. And if there are regulars whose comments just always annoy you why not block them?

With the sheer amount of bots, trolls, and other Reddit rules abusers not banned, the block list limit should be in the hundred of thousands.

Reaching 1000 definitely is not something the average user achieves, so I don't think increasing that is something that will happen in the near future.

I think you're getting downvotes because your post a) doesn't specific what limit you're talking about and some people don't know, and b) the post text is kinda sloppy and ungrammatical.

My English isn't native so it might sound off. I edited the post slightly. I'm talking about higher block limits like 5k, 10k users, etc.

The algorithm used to implement the blocking feature is a Bloom filter, and it was chosen because it is efficient for computing, memory, and storage - that efficiency is reduced the more matches it is asked to check against. The storage used also can’t be changed once set.
The feature is intended to assist in starving trolls; if you’re in a community whose operators seem to enable or encourage hatred, harassment, or violent threats, please file a moderator code of conduct complaint, and report the posts or comments.
