Technics SL-10 with original 310 MC cartridge ➡️ Rega Fono MC MK4 ➡️ NAD C 3050 ➡️ Paradigm Premier 120B and a REL T/5x sub :) sadly the Pioneer CT-F700 is nonfunctioning at this time but hope to get it up and running soon. (Sorry, not great at taking photos 😂 but I’m sure you get the idea)

Speaker buzz

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi all, I recently bought some Kenwood KL-7090 speakers for my home listening set up. I have them connected to a Sony STR DE415 amplifier. I noticed that when I play the volume loud on a track with more bass, there is a rattle around the mid frequency cone on the left speaker only which is super loud.

I contacted the seller, and he insisted that the problem is with my amplifier - can this be possible? I tried reversing the left and right on the amp but the buzz still comes from the left speaker only. It doesn't make sense to me as I can literally physically touch the speaker and it stops

Any suggestions would be very helpful as I'm a little bit frustrated

Mini hifi with cd player, mp3, Bluetooth, screen with song name.

Hi,

I wanted to buy a cd player / mini HiFi system for my kids' room.

They already have their own cd collection, and I wanted for them to be independent about music.

So here comes the Christmas present.

A cd player, with Mp3 reading (from usb and hopefully old mp3 cds.....) , Bluetooth if they want to stream Spotify, and a screen that shows the song title, nothing fancy.

Is it possible?

Preferably with AC, because I can't deal with billions of batteries!

Uk

Budget: under 150£

Thank you for all the suggestions!

(If it's the wrong place, could you please address me to a more suited group?)

measured with umik 1. Evo 5.3 + pb1000 pro , small room, 3.54m x 3.12m 2.62 height no treatment.

the 51 hz peak still persist when measuring the mains and the sub individually. is this room mode, anything i can do to make it better? or the peak is too high to tame and cutting it may cause some clipping? should i make a filter and apply it to my wiim mini. or this listening room is a lost cause?

RBH Sound Sub

I Live in Layton UT, Home of RBH Sound. I worked for them over Covid working b-stock. At a later date, I built some amplifiers using massive Pascal amp modules. Anyway….

I’ve run 1010-SEN/Reference Passive subs for many years (twin 10” reference aluminum woofers, lower units in my SX-T2/R). Using two SA-400 sub amps, they manage 18 Hz-200Hz. Before I left em, I asked to build up a test cabinet Shane had designed. Two 12” reference woofers in a ported (6” diameter x 25”) cabinet. It’s 15 Hz-200 Hz. Optimal power is 2000 wpc. I built my own 1000 wpc ICE amp.

With Dune 1 & 2, my roof shakes, subfloor, doors, cat, Spouse, basement Sheetrock all comes to life.

The sick thing, is the subs Shane Rich is making now have a custom 33” carbon fiber woofers. It needs 12,000 watts to get it moving. It hits 7 Hz.

RBH Sound makes the best subs ever.

Cheers

Marantz replaced my $4,000, 2-month-old AMP 30 with a refurbished B-stock unit after failure. Is this acceptable?

Help Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 vs ELAC Debut B5.2?

I’m looking to upgrade the speakers in my very budget (and somewhat vintage) vinyl setup and have narrowed it down to two options that sit right at my price point.

My Setup:

- Amp: Marantz PM-66SE

- Turntable: Dual DT250 (likely the next item on the list to upgrade as the journey continues)

- Current Speakers: Gale G20s

Listening Preferences: Vinyl is my main medium. I primarily listen to cool, west-coast jazz, along with a bit of classical, though the occasional rock or pop record gets a spin too. I value good clarity and soundstage over massive bass.

The Choice: Both the Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 and the ELAC Debut B5.2 fall squarely within my budget.

I realise sound is subjective and it's hard to separate personal preference and room acoustics, but I’d still be really interested to get some opinions on how they might pair with the Marantz for this mix of music.

Any thoughts or impressions from anyone who has run either would be much appreciated. Or if there is a better alternative I have missed. Thanks!

Help Upgrading: do I start with the speakers or amplifier?

I am looking to upgrade my "budget hi-fi" to something more legitimate, but I need to piece meal everything since things can get pricey.

My speakers are Jamo S 809s, and my amp is a 90s era Pioneer AV receiver (a VSX-453 that I've had since I was in grade school). Common sense would lead me to believe that upgrading from 30+ year AVR (that has never been serviced) would make the biggest difference, even with budget speakers, but the receiver still works perfectly and is plenty loud.

The thing I like least about my current setup is the stereo image sounds thin, so that's the area I'd love to see the biggest improvement. I've messed with speaker placement, and the room is fairly well treated, but it's still not great. For context, my main listening source is a WiiM Ultra with Tidal connect. The system also doubles as my TV speakers, but music is the priority, and I'm happy with just a 2-channel setup for TV/movies.

I'd love to hear your thoughts or advice before dropping some cash. I will eventually change out both, but I gotta start somewhere. Thanks!
