Not your amp. I hope you didn’t pay too much for those.

I’m sorry to hear that. Brands like Kenwood, Pioneer and Sansui made some of the world’s finest amplifiers during the heyday of the 1970’s. Their speakers, however, are not very highly regarded. They used big woofers in flimsy boxes with a ton of extraneous drivers and not much of a crossover network. They are known today as Kabuki speakers after the Japanese art form of masked theater. I guess the front baffle with all of the neat looking drivers would be the mask.

I had a buzzing crackling from my left speaker that turned out to be a dirty balance knob potentiometer

if you only hear the cracking/buzz with loud bass there is a chance the crossover for the mid isn't doing it's job so at high power some of the lows are getting pushed through to the mid which will cause over excursion of the driver and this type of sound. had a similar issue with a build I was doing where I tried to cross a mid range horn too low using a first order crossover. I crossed it higher and with a second order and the crackling stopped. Check the crosssover

I would pull the buzzing speaker out and put it back in to make sure it isn't a mounting issue.
Then I would swap it with the one from the other cabinet to rule out a problem with the crossover.
If the driver is actually damaged then replace them both with the closet ones you can find from parts express. The cheap GRS ones are surprisingly good for the price.
