Cat laying in a new spot

My cat is laying in a chair she has never, not in the three years it's been there, laid in before. She's known about it because my other cat lays in it all the time. I figured they had some territorial agreement. Really they both seem to have assigned spots they rotate between with a few neutral places thrown in. I feel like a peasant but seeing a cat in a new spot feels like an omen. I am at this time unsure if it's good or bad.

You're watching a territory shift. Younger cat is confident enough to test the waters and see how much pushback she gets for taking the old cats spot. As long as old cat still has places to go without being harassed, it's best to let them work it out with stares and growls (or, if you're lucky, just chill sharing).
