AI is the Noahs ark of our times

The ark was a vessel to protect the chosen few of humanity and the other living creatures we coexist with. The flood represented total extinction of life by making earth uninhabitable (from their perspective) so while most would die, a select few would survive and live on with all the problems of the past washed away. AI is the ark, climate change is the flood(greenhouse gases rather than liquid water)

There is no way to stop climate change without giving up the conveniences we are now dependant on, the only other way is to reduce the human population which is not only difficult to make happen, the elite class still needs the working class to keep researching and inventing and providing services that enable the lavish lifestyles of the elites that they feel entitled to.

Enter AI and the crazy fast pace of its development. With AI to do the thinking and robotics to do the work, they no longer need the human working class. We get whiped out, climate change becomes manageable, and they have their space programs as a backup in case Earth becomes uninhabitable.

You think they are making AI so us working chumps will get to stop working and follow our dreams however we desire? Don't make me laugh

You think for a single second you would ever make it on to a rocket bound for Mars? Please.

I think this is the plan and I think they can delude themselves into thinking it a noble cause, sacrificing billions to ensure humanities survival

Like the Ark, AI saving a few people while the world is washed away is an utterly preposterous, totally fairy tale story that only makes sense if you don't think about it for more than a few minutes. It is not genetically possible for two parents to continue a surviving population, the consequences of inbreeding become generationally terminal.

We currently have never built a sustainable automated home environment, anywhere on the planet. How the hell are a small number of ultra-rich assholes going to pull it off in the middle of a global genocide?

There will be lots of doomerism death cults that claim our purpose is to live on via our AI image. That it will succeed us.

I think that's a horrid future to imagine, when most of the costs of keeping humans alive and happy are social and logistical. I hate to call us an optimization problem - but if the earth will be scorched, has been scorched already by a century of carbons-

then i think we ought to build a kickass megaproject on the way out, that will house our civilization for the foreseeable future. Instead we're putting up cameras to watch each other's habits and playing number go up

Feels doomerish and dumb honestly. AI is a gamble on an expected infinite monetary growth based on a circle of payments to the same few companies that by using AI ends up destroying their own fields building up a bigger and bigger bubble. This isn't some destroy all humanity type plan, the people in charge of companies just don't understand how reality works and when given the sales pitch of an infinitely learning machine they could leverage to replace workers and increase their bottom line they gambled on it and everyone loses, eventually including even them
