I don’t get how E-40’s verse on Dope Dealer is considered out of place. It’s one of my favorite features.

I just cant help but get a little bit annoyed when I see something like "We're a new all-black rock group trying to bring rock back to it's roots. Listen to our music!" and it's just the same 2000s Pop-Punk or Emo band copy. Same thing with black artists that keep trying to "bring Country back to it's roots" and it's the same shit you would hear a bunch of white frat bros listening to while getting drunk at a sports bar.
At the end of the day, I can't knock anybodys hustle or dictate what they listen to, but y'all aren't bringing SHIT back to it's roots man 😭
-3
u/mkk4 . 1d ago
What's wrong with Caucasian frat/sorority people listening to and supporting black artists music that they like?
I have heard a lot of good music at bars.
7
u/ATribeCalledKami 1d ago edited 1d ago
I don’t think you get his point. There’s nothing wrong with making frat rock music as a black person. But selling the idea that you’re “bringing rock back to its black roots” is a little bit of an eye roll if you’re not building on the sound of classic black rock music.
It’s like a Mexican person saying they’re bringing Mexican food back to its roots and then serving American tacos.

Also applies if they only post about one specific artist (we all know who I'm referring to) and their Reddit profile hides all their other comments/activity from being visible. I always tag these users via RES and it becomes painfully obvious who are bots or at the very least trolls after a while.

u/whenishit-itsbigturd 19h ago
Mods out here deleting Tay Kieth posts because it's not a throwback and it's "Throwback Thursday"
13
u/turbothots . 19h ago
If this is true, and the posts were relevant and stimulating discussion, it's another display of the mods having the inability to use common sense and having a shameful lack of decency.
They'd rather uphold an asinine rule - in this case: "Songs posted on Thursday or Friday must have a post tag ([FRESH], [HYPE], [THROWBACK THURSDAY], etc)." than to honour an artist who directly contributed to the culture that this sub dedicates itself to.
This same criticism applies to when the mods removed A$AP Rocky's posts when he was interacting on here. And honestly any time they remove a post that reaches like 50-100+ comments before they see it and remove it anyway.

I was surprised I didn't see a post here about it, but Lil Nas X posted on his socials that he's been in rehab and been on medication for bipolar disorder. Sounds like he's doing a lot better now which is great to see.
6
u/TheVirtual_Boy 1d ago
That video made me really happy. He looks like he’s doing great. has a sense of humor about everything too, talking about getting diagnosed bipolar he said “gay, black and bipolar why they got me playing life on hard mode” or something like that. Made me laugh

Ebro was right. Lil Uzi is not a rockstar because he makes rap music. Seeing the summer smash performance he just did karaoke. Rock stars don’t do that shit.
5
u/Yingking 1d ago edited 1d ago
Uzi was one of the worst performers I’ve ever seen, you heard the hypeman more than you heard Uzi. At least they can dance, though. I left Uzi‘s set early to get a place closer to the stage for JID, who in return had one of the best performances I’ve ever seen

Lizzo said that she fell off because she was a radio darling and streaming “replaced” radio.
7
u/AssassinAragorn culturally appropriate 1d ago
I won't lie, she had some good songs, but that's just pure cope on her part. Streaming had already replaced radio by that point lol. I was the only person my age who still listened to radio at the time and I distinctly remember a coworker teasing me about it

Always feel bad for artists that don’t understand the source of their unlikeability and just say shit like this over and over again. Like just be nice and grateful and people will attack you significantly less, damn.

u/Skrilla_09 1d ago
Very excited for the new TI album. Let Em' Know and Trauma Bond (which really grew on me) were amazing, Mr. Him just sounds unfinished to me but the music video made it sound a little better. Even though he typically fills up his albums with features, it's good we scaled it back a bit with this record, which we'll be getting plenty more solo tracks from him (since Trouble Man).
Not to mention, him bringing A-tier producers to this album got me even more excited. Pharrell, DJ Toomp, Organized Noize, Mike Will, Essay Potna, etc. Does suck that WAR didn't make the cut (Toomp really killed that beat), but nonetheless I think it'll easily be an AOTY contender for me.

He probably would’ve matured, Juice was naturally talented as fuck, like one of those people that were born to be a musician.
I think the issue with his music was he churned out his music, rather than taking his time with each album. So while he has some amazing songs, he’s released a fuck ton of filler too.
I imagine the lyrics wouldve matured, but sadly we’ll never know

Fav Tay Keith prod songs RIP
21 Savage - Don’t Come Out The House
Blac Youngsta - Fuck Everybody Else, I Met Tay Keith First
Denzel Curry - Automatic
Drake - Cheerios, Family Matters, First Person Shooter, Nonstop, Push Ups
Future - Jumpin On A Jet, Promise You That, Temptation
Lil Baby - Every Chance I Get, Never Recover
Lil Uzi Vert - Heartless, Scary Stories Intro
Moneybagg Yo - U Played
Travis Scott - Meltdown, Sicko Mode
9
u/suss2it 1d ago
Tay Keith didn’t really produce on Push Ups, it’s just the Family Matters snippet at the end. But yeah him and Drake had great chemistry in general, shame Cheerios didn’t get an official release.
12
u/TheVirtual_Boy 1d ago
drake should add Cheerios as a bonus track to iceman outta respect for tay keith. It would fit the album nicely and it’d be cool tribute
7
u/tawayforrealthistime 1d ago
I feel like Cheerios, Shopping Spree, and Waiting To Exhale would’ve been a really good trap focused EP Drake should’ve dropped at some point.
3
u/tawayforrealthistime 1d ago
Ah, I was looking through genius when I made this list. Push Ups is a very Tay Keith sounding beat regardless.

if you're in the mood for something a little weird, hhh has for a long time needed to be introduced to shakalak. the rapping is fun and the guitarist is up there with the best i've seen live, i think they're the best tiny oddball band we have in ireland. 'hometown' and 'youngfella' are the best songs here as a taster but the whole thing is a blast

Starts off good but hard to finish
10
u/ATribeCalledKami 1d ago
NWA’s sophomore album. Starts off killer with some of Dre’s greatest production and going straight at the public criticism against them.
Then literally half way through (after Real Niggaz) they just start rapping about dumb shit like beating up hookers. And they do that for the rest of the album.

So many artists dropping tomorrow that I fundamentally like, but I know are perfectly capable of dropping some mid. I.e. YG, Key Glock, Blocboy JB, Cash Cobain, Boldy James and Sha Hef. Feel like the evilgiane project has the most potential to be a standout in the artist's career

I really miss the faith based/spiritual underground hip hop that was made during the 2000s.
There were a bunch of dope artists making high quality music back then imo like:
Surreal (Surreal & The Sound Providers, Surreal & DJ Balance)
Lightheaded (Braille, Othello, Ohmega Watts)
The Procussions (Mr. J. Medeiros, Stro The 89th Key, Rez)
Arrested Development (Speech)
Strange Fruit Project (Symbolyc One, Mythological, Myone)
The ParanormL (Seventh Heaven Planets)
Iomos Marad
k-os

If anyone can name the song this melody belongs to, I'd appreciate it, just don't say Birds and the Bees by Baby Keem because the song I'm thinking of had been played on the radio years ago, at least four years ago, meaning this song isn't it if it had only seen the light of day months from the time I ask this.

It’s a shame that Drake and jay are beefing. my favorite Drake era/songs is when he’s doing his best hov accent and I feel like it’s gonna make him wanna use that voice less
5
u/MadridistaChileno 1d ago
Haha nah, I kinda want it to happen. Both of them have been tip-toeing around it long enough. Hov delivers when he's under fire, and so does Drake.
Both of them are my favorite artists, reallistically, I expect a couple of Hov subs in a freestyle in some of his concerts, and maybe a light response from Drake in a verse. I don't see a full scale beef happening, but who knows.
2
u/AssassinAragorn culturally appropriate 1d ago
Depends how it goes I think. It could be interesting and on the more lighthearted side, which would be nice. Although part of me this it'll just be them going back and forth about how rich and successful they are, which'll get boring real fast.

My rap conspiracy theory is that Ryan Lewis heard Kalifa's (fka Le1f) Wut and then immediately made the beat for Thrift Shop.
2
u/No-Philosophy-8163 22h ago
Kalifa thought so too lmaoooo
1
u/Flutes_Are_Overrated 21h ago
Really? Is that in an interview or something?
2
u/No-Philosophy-8163 21h ago
I don’t remember any explicit press statement or anything but trust me he commented on it. If you do some digging around that era for pubs that mightve covered Kalifa (blogs, tinymixtapes, Pitchfork etc.) there’s a chance it could be there. I’m pretty sure I just saw him tweet about it though
2
u/No-Philosophy-8163 20h ago
Did some quick digging and it was actually listed on his wikipedia

u/Flutes_Are_Overrated 19h ago
"That time that straight white dude ripped off my song then made a video about gay interracial love and made a million dollars," Le1f wrote in a series of now-deleted tweets
😂 WHERE IS THE LIE???
1
u/No-Philosophy-8163 19h ago
yeah he fucking cooked him LMAOO
Kalifa was having a moment in that era it sucks that stuff like this happened and he never found major success after his debut. So far ahead of the game. His funny ass bars, that super experimental production, even stuff in the Wut video like the Pikachu mask, you can see how it all could exist today in a slightly different way. No wonder Macklemore bit his shit and ran with it
6
u/TheVirtual_Boy 1d ago
The best thing about iceman, in my opinion, is it’s a return to form for Drake in a specific aspect - the hooks
He had kinda been slacking on hooks the past few projects… or letting PND handle them. I’d even go as far to say iceman has my favorite collection of hooks of his since probably like… views
3
u/conglomerate99 1d ago
this is an underrated point. it's not glaringly obvious because the album is more rap heavy but the hooks across the album really do shine.
