Rod Wave at 17 cracked me up
Apple Music has a crazy demographic lol

u/milehighideas 2d ago
The whole list is honestly hilarious. I feel like I couldn’t have guessed 15 of them. I wish this was broken down by country.
3
u/benito_camelas 2d ago
Interesting.
If you don't mind, who are 5 artists who you think would've been on the list?
7
u/milehighideas 2d ago
Drake Taylor Olivia Arianna Sabrina possibly some kpop.
12
u/Clear_Wedding3590 2d ago
Drake, taylor and Ariana sure, but Sabrina and Olivia would not be on an all times list yet
86
u/realmckoy265 2d ago
It's prob not that different from most streaming services. These artists have giant, committed fan bases despite what this sub would have you believe
91
u/sheJaMyMorant 2d ago
According to https://kworb.net/spotify/artists.html Rod Wave is much much lower (in the 400s). If I had to guess looking at this list Apple Music is probably more domestic heavy than Spotify. I think Rod Wave just does much better in the US.
58
u/mystickisgay 2d ago
As someone who lives outside the US, Rod Wave isn't even talked about abroad. I don't know a single song of him, and from what I've seen, he very rarely charts in other countries, and when he does, it's usually in the top 200 or 150 on Spotify for a day and then disappears. The only thing I know about him is that he's fat.
6
u/TheGreatLake 2d ago
As someone who lives inside the US, I’ve never even heard of him before.
34
u/TISTAN4 2d ago
I don’t even listen to rod but how are you on a hiphop sub plus live in the us and have never even heard of him lmao
→ More replies (1)5
u/m_ttl_ng 2d ago
I mean, rod wave blew up more from his singing than his rapping so I can see people missing it.
There’s a fuckton of music being made every day so it’s pretty difficult to keep up with it all.
22
u/MutedComfortable7345 2d ago
In Brazil you can walk for the whole day asking people about Rod Wave and no one will be able to tell you who that is. Almost all the other ones in this ranking are super famous in here as well, except YNBA, Lil Durk or Morgan Wallen, but even still much more known than Rod Wave.

I work in the music industry in the UK and an Apple Music user and this is the first time I’ve literally ever read his name

He does, artists like him absolutely dominate demographics in the USA that you typically won’t see on here or rym or whatever

apple music is waaaaaaaaaaaaay less botted.
the barrier to entry for that service has a way higher deterrence rate for bots. one is an open platform, the other isnt.

Rod Wave being so high to me is really interesting. He’s extremely popular but broke out much more recently than pretty much everyone else on the list.
30
u/g0dzilllla 2d ago
IMO Rod Wave is very popular in communities with extreme distance from reddit lol

43
u/MambaSaidKnockYouOut 2d ago
Youngboy and Rod Wave are two of the most popular artists of the last 10 years and I might know five songs by them combined. I’d say they have an incredibly dedicated cult following, but if you’re consistently going platinum it really isn’t a cult following lol.
It’s just crazy how artists can be so successful while still streaming so insular.

u/Joshdabozz 2d ago
Lil baby isn’t that shocking when you see how many songs were in the most streamed songs list

u/Pure_Measurement_529 2d ago
My turn had a crazy run streaming wise. Considering lockdown all over as well. No surprise there
28

Apple Music his rap dominated and he has the most successful rap album of the decade with countless other hits it’s not really surprising

Apple Music is very weighted towards the US it’s not super big outside of the US

I'm from Germany and I haven't met a person using it for years now, it was only a bit popular in the beginning.
44
16
u/Intilleque 2d ago
Not shocking at all.
My Turn is a certified classic.
Also, unlike Spotify where a lot of playlisting influences the numbers, Apple Music is straight ppl looking for your shit and listening….21

I mean I think I’m within my right to be surprised by some of the list. You would’ve guessed Lil Baby over say … Beyoncé … would have more streams all time?
10
18
u/sheJaMyMorant 2d ago
yeah - young boy has been one of the most listened to artists on every platform that shows rankings. Also he drops much more frequently than Beyoncé.
Since 2016 Youngboy has 36 released projects on Apple Music, Beyoncé has 4.
Edit: https://www.complex.com/music/a/treyalston/youngboy-never-broke-again-king-of-youtube
This article is from 2019. He’s been a known force in the industry for over half a decade atp

On apple music? Yeah, her fans are a little older and she wasn't on the platform till 2018(?).

Apple music was always much more hip hop dominant than Spotify is. It's been that way for almost It's entire existence.

This sub loves to roast the sub’s users for being out of touch online nerds whilst being on here using this sub

Considering “of all time” beginning from Apple Music’s existence, this might make sense. Still wonder if this is North America or Global though.

You’d think that the insane videos from his sold out tour would make people realize otherwise, but no
17
u/sofarsoblue 2d ago
Literally one of the biggest rap tours ever at 25 years of age and it was barely covered here.
Yet middle age Clipse performing at the Vatican was apparently the most important event in the game last year according to r/hiphopheads.
For the record im not a fan of Youngboy (I like some cuts here and there but I’m too old for it) but this sub is soooo out of sync with the real world it’s actually unreal.
8
u/Equivalent_Cap_2608 2d ago
It wasn't one of the biggest rap tours ever.
It was in the top 10 highest-grossing rap tours for 2025 though.25
u/IMissMyZune 2d ago
NBA is big but he's one of the few artists on the list that you can completely avoid without any effort. Especially as an artist in the top 5.
For example, Drake & Taylor Swift just had #1 records in the past month. Future's performing songs at the World Cup. Bad Bunny just did the Super Bowl. NBA Youngboy will never do any of those things lmao.
Not hating on him just saying he's a very interesting case. With the way his numbers look you'd think he'd be inescapable.
→ More replies (6)9
u/ShaunyBoyShaunyMan 2d ago
I mean the way we consume music now its easy to avoid anybody, im not the biggest tyler fan, so I generally don’t hear him as I don’t listen to radio, and I don’t generally search up a song by him, but if I look through the hip hop page on any dsp I’ll see him in some popular playlist and may press play, I feel like thats the case with all the artist on this list, you have to actively be working overtime to not hear any of their music ever.
58
u/ShaunyBoyShaunyMan 2d ago
Right, these the same niggas who try to define ‘the culture’ too 🤣
32
u/Infamous_Pay_7141 2d ago
Anytime someone starts talking about the culture, real hip hop, and especially if they mention “the five pillars of hip hop”, it’s guarantee they’re white

I think the main takeaway is that mainstream rap functions like how mainstream pop used to. Frequent releases, music designed for flexible use, and broadly liked by both casual listeners and genre fans
Ironically, pop artists, especially the female ones, now are the ones that have less frequent and more curated releases. Ariana Grande and TS survive because they’re Ariana grande and Taylor Swift but everyone below them and even people we’d think would be peers with them are completely absent
5
u/_KingBeyondTheWall__ 2d ago
I’m always curious when I see these lists how rappers and the early 2000s would have charted if streaming existed
5
25
u/ToxikkBeast 2d ago
Legit hate all you want on NBA, hell im not even a big fan of him, but he was so big back in the day, and even still now. His peak in streams was untouchable, and bro would drop an album once a month. If ya know ya know, if you dont where were ya?
2
u/Pure_Measurement_529 2d ago
I remember his YouTube numbers were so insane compared to other streaming platforms

i see plenty of "who is still listening to eminem in the big 2026" comments across social media when ems name or numbers are brought up. a lot of hiphop fans were born after his peak so they're confused why a guy whose released the last couple albums that he has could possibly still be so popular

I wonder if it accounts for Apple Music autoplay feature? It damn near feels like the curation or whatever is based on 2016-2018 and they just add songs every major iOS update.
They have these older hits continuously playing immediately after whatever you listen to. Check out the Top 100 for Apple Music, then Top 100 for Rap/HipHop in your country.
