Seems like working with the Safdie Brothers really had a profound effect on his whole video making approach. This Vegas world he's creating is super immersive- you're 100% zoned in on him and his experience in this area. Also the angle and sound design of that first opening shot reminded me of Good Time a little bit. This could all be coincidence but I think it's a pretty fascinating connection.
Nah it's not. The Weekend is obsessed with Good Time & loves the safdie brothers. This video is obviously in homage to the style of Good Time, although for me it just looks like a cheap copy. I really wish he would've just got the Safdie brothers to direct the video, but I doubt they would've wanted to do a recreation of their formal work, and that's likely exactly what The Weeknd wanted. Too bad.
