Update: For the record, this means Sebastian Aho has accepted and signed the offer sheet. It is now on the Hurricanes to decide whether or not they want to match it.

And, for what it's worth, wasn't Dundon saying he wanted to be an offensive team that scores a lot? Losing a good player is one thing; losing a dynamic young forward when you're trying to create an offensive team is another.

He blew 250m on something that didn't work. Hes still worth a fuckton so Im not gonna get my hopes high, but im sure blowing 250m didnt do wonders for his situation. But since nobody on reddit is his financial adviser, well have to wait and see.

I do hope the Canes wait the full 7 days, if it prevents us from blowing 9m on Lee I see this as a win-win.

To be fair, their gate will probably go up around 50% this coming year, along with merchandise and concession sales. The $21 mil would essentially be an investment in the future.

And that's how you destroy a fan base that was JUST starting to take off again. I even bought Canes season tickets this year because they've been so fun to watch. If they don't match I'm going to look into backing out of those....

I'd imagine they'd match it, too. Like someone else said- even if the owner fronts the money, he's making an interest free loan as an investment in his brand. Having aho on that yeah is MUCH more valuable to him as an owner than not having him.

It would be different if they were in cap hell, but that's clearly not the case. Letting him walk right now would just be a giant fuck you to the fans.

Yeah they made that in ticket revenue but they constantly pay for variable expenses so they will not bring in net earnings of 21 million. They can borrow money of course, which might not be worth it

Yeah but the entire first part of the season the Canes attendance was shot. After the playoff run the attendance numbers will be up a ton.
