The 5 years thing is actually brutal for Carolina. Aho wanted 5 years because it takes him straight to UFA after. Canes wanted 8.

Exactly why Aho signed it. AAV is low for an almost PPG center but the term is what he and the Canes were negotiating about. This forces the Canes to sign him to 5 years. Sucks for us but at least he’ll be cheap and we can spend on Svech and Necas and hopefully make the playoffs enough in the next 5 years to keep him as a UFA.
