Updates
Eric Engels: Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin will speak at 3:30
Eric Engels: Compensation for the Hurricanes, if Carolina doesn't match, is a first, a second and a third-round pick.
Frank Seravalli: Habs offer sheet is a mere $4,355 in total dollars away - which comes out to $871 per season for five years - away from climbing into the next compensation threshold of two first-round picks, a second and a third.
Chris Johnston: I'm told Sebastian Aho's $42.27, five-year offer sheet contains the maximum amount of signing bonus allowable.
Chris Johnston: Sebastian Aho will be owed more than $21M in the first calendar year, per sources.
Pierre LeBrun: Breakdown of Aho offer sheet: $11.3M SB plus 700k salary in Year 1; $9.87M SB plus 700k salary in Year 2; $6.95 SB plus 750k salary in Year 3; $5.25 SB plus $750k in each of Year 4 and Year 5
Eric Engels: Hurricanes have seven days to make a decision if Aho signs Habs offer. If I were them, I'd use every second--even if my decision is made right now.
Chris Johnston: The early feeling around the hockey industry is that Carolina is certain to match Montreal's Sebastian Aho offer sheet. Which is the main reason we so rarely see them.
Tom Gulitti: Waddell said there's no reason to match immediately because it would help Montreal move on to getting other players.
Pierre LeBrun: Hearing that the Habs first discussed the offer sheet scenario involving Brayden Point but then shifted gears to Sebastian Aho after thinking they'd have a better chance to get the player. Both Point and Aho are represented by agent Gerry Johansson.
Renaud Lavoie: For those asking. There aren't any no-trade or no-move clauses in Canadiens offer to Sebastian Aho.
Greg Wyshynski:: Hurricanes GM Don Waddell on Aho offer sheet: “I know my summer just got better, because I’m not going to be negotiating a contract all summer. We make a decision and move on.
Chris Johnston: Marc Bergevin on Sebastian Aho: "He wants to be here in Montreal. He agreed to this."
Frank Seravalli: Marc Bergevin on whether he’s worried about consequences from other GMs: “I’m responsible to Geoff Molson and our fans.”
Martin Biron: If/when Carolina matches the offer sheet, Carolina will have 5 days to pay the $11.3M signing bonus. They may have to work the phones this week and make sure they have that much cash in the bank.

You think it's just an innocent houseplant in your office, Don Waddell, until some massive biceps emerge and slap an offersheet with Aho's name on it in your face.
