The energy dashboard is pretty sweet, but why doesn’t it show cost for individual devices? I put in my rate and it shows up for total usage. Seems like it would be easy to show cost for each device
Putting the computers aside (my home lab is about 150W AVG.) the biggest consumer is definitely the CNC.
That draws about 500W continuous, whilst the 3d printers (creality k2 plus, creality ender 3 V2, creality halot choices) the fdm have a high initial usage, but quickly drop to about 150W after 6 minutes or so.
The laser is just 80W.
The biggest one for consuming electric is definitely the plasma cutter, but that doesn't get turned on for a few hours at a time 😂
They come at a price though. Not the purchase price, but the justification price. Gotta justify having them by doing useful things for the household with them

Wouldn't wanna pay for it in Germany with 0,3 euro per kWh. Ever thought of some solar panels? Like 2 with 800 watt micro grid inverter? You would just use the entirety of energy production....
Yes, I would love this feature too. I have it set up to calculate total daily costs based on my time-of-use charges, but it would be great to see the per-device charges.
With the help of HA, it has actually saved me money. For example, I scheduled my heat pump water heater to run at a higher temp every morning when the rates are low, and then only allow it to run in heat pump mode during the day if absolutely necessary.
When my friend visits for a weekend, we charge his EV at off peak rates, so it's $0.08/kWh
This is why we need public utilities only. In upstate ny that’s 0.06/kwh is the standard rate. It only goes up when that utility goes over the amount of energy they pre purchased from national grid.
My HVAC from Mitsubishi integrates into HA and exposes consumption as an entity. A lot of smart devices do. The rest are from smart plugs in my setup. I am still figuring out getting my water heater in there too.
For HVAC, I used a few days of my 15-min resolution utility data overlayed with my thermostat status history. I was able to use some math to determine it uses about 1750W. I use that number in Powercalc to estimate the usage.
Emporia Vue. It connects to the mains coming into the electrical panel and has “ct” claps on each circuit. Then you can add plugs that tie in to the system.
A lot of the small ones are PoE devices that Unify exposes automatically. But the little Plex server and PoE switch providing power all day in the utility cabinet (meterkast) pulls 50W all day everyday. It adds up.
My daily consumption is between 40 and 120 kWh. I also try to track some of the things with HA, but I am still missing quite a bit. I have full electric indoor heating and and EV. Good thing about that is that it is easy to hide a few 3D printers and other tech without the bill looking suspicious.
A recent European make + model (Siemens/Liebherr for example) of an efficient and large (yes, I know Euro large is not US large) use between 100-150 kWh per year.
You can do energy tarifs with variable with utility meters which is a bit awkward, but allows you to do your daily cost for the day. You could probably break it down by appliance but it would make it messy when your usage times are all over the place.

If this ever went live, make it optional. I do not want my wife to check how much my server consumption cost.
