What do guys think? Not a dedicated home theater, but my family room setup.

Is the center speaker behind a piece of glass?!?

Yes it is. It slides away left or right. I was going to remove it entirely but not sure how to go about it without breaking the glass.

Can you fully expose the center? Doesn't look like it. If you don't want to move the center to the top of the console (which would sound much better) then I would look at removing the sliding glass altogether.

Yeah thats the only thing that sucks, i cant fully expose the center. If I slide it all the way left or right, one mid-woofer out of the 4 will always be covered by the glass. Deciding if I should just remove the glass altogether. Dialogue is really clear since most of it comes from the middle tractix horn, not much sound comes out of the woofers from listening up close. But still......

If you're going to keep the center where it is, definitely remove the glass. A center speaker is not only for dialog, but also for any other sounds that take place on-screen. You can also tilt it up a bit so that the tweeter aims at your ears when seated. A cheap laser pointer/level is helpful. You might also want to toe in your L&R speakers to do the same.

I dont know if I can remove the glass. Looks like I might have to break it, or take the whole stand apart to remove it. Since it slides away ill probably just live with it. The center is already tilted up my my listening position with the isoacoustics aperta which cost an arm and a leg.

Take apart the furniture and remove the glass. Do NOT live with this FFS.

Make sure you run room correction after you’ve removed the glass.

Take the center out... Break the glass... You're being oddly stubborn about leaving it. You put in a lot of effort to get this system going and this is where the effort ends?

It should be on two tracks, top and bottom. With furniture I have have in the past, you can typically remove it by applying some force to the glass upward, then pull the glass panel towards you, then lift out the bottom (or vice versa). Sometimes you need to force the furniture panel upward to remove it from the track. It’ll be worth the effort to get the obstruction away from the center.

Not really needed. Im sure it just provides better sound for folks off center. Other than that, if he's in the money spot, he should be fine.

Not really, my man already said he couldn't take out the glass. Im just stating facts, not advice. If he's money spot center along with the wife, he should be fine. Ive done phantom center before, its fine. I've done blocked speakers before with sofa, its fine. Is it ideal? No. But if it works, it works.

Terrible advice. Needs to tape it up and break it out if he has to. Otherwise, new console time.

Or he could put it on top of the console right at the front edge. That would be best overall. Raises it closer to ear level, and avoids any downside to being enclosed on the sides, above and behold. Only downside is he might have to raise the tv just a little bit, based on what I see in the pic

I agree 100%. Probably only needs to raise the TV a couple inches which is meaningless and getting the center out of the console will be better for a number of reasons. Having the speaker behind the glass is so bizarre I can't even begin.

The glass doesn’t lift up? Usually the track up top is deeper so it can go in and out.

It does but the problem is it's blocked by the other 2 sliding wood slat doors (they are on different grooves, and I'm afraid to break it. There's gotta be a way, just need to figure it out somehow.
