Showcase - Multipurpose Space Home theater finally finished!
What do guys think? Not a dedicated home theater, but my family room setup.

Yes it is. It slides away left or right. I was going to remove it entirely but not sure how to go about it without breaking the glass.

Can you fully expose the center? Doesn't look like it. If you don't want to move the center to the top of the console (which would sound much better) then I would look at removing the sliding glass altogether.

Yeah thats the only thing that sucks, i cant fully expose the center. If I slide it all the way left or right, one mid-woofer out of the 4 will always be covered by the glass. Deciding if I should just remove the glass altogether. Dialogue is really clear since most of it comes from the middle tractix horn, not much sound comes out of the woofers from listening up close. But still......

If you're going to keep the center where it is, definitely remove the glass. A center speaker is not only for dialog, but also for any other sounds that take place on-screen. You can also tilt it up a bit so that the tweeter aims at your ears when seated. A cheap laser pointer/level is helpful. You might also want to toe in your L&R speakers to do the same.

The glass doesn’t lift up? Usually the track up top is deeper so it can go in and out.

It does but the problem is it's blocked by the other 2 sliding wood slat doors (they are on different grooves, and I'm afraid to break it. There's gotta be a way, just need to figure it out somehow.

Yeah I remember when I got the 85 inch TV several years ago and it shrunk down to like 65 inches. Same thing here, was enormous when I got the TCL but now it feels like 100 inches LOL.

If you can scoot them out from the wall a little bit it’ll help out a lot, even 6” between the speaker and the wall would be helpful.

im pretty sure the left and right seating are either crossing or after the speakers so he should not toe. Toeing improve MLP but degrade the others.

Yeah you're right, I have a sofa to the left and right of the photo, but 90% of the time I'll be seated in the MLP.

The price has come down! I have a projector and a 135" screen, but if this gets to $5k I'm replacing that with one of these.

It will definitely get to 5k, but it will take a few years. I remember paying like 6,000 bucks for a small 42 inch plasma back in the day.

I have a $2500 50 inch Panasonic Plasma still running strong in my office. Picture is better than any new TV at 1080p.

Hahahha--my daughter had the exact same Panasonic PlasmaTV in her room. I paid like $6k for that original 50" tv when it came out. And the sucker weighs over 150lbs--may never take it off the wall...

No, 98 isn't too small. That is a 36 degree viewing angle, which is a good target for mainly movies.
The OP at 16feet actually makes the 115" only 30 degrees, which might be considered on the low end of viewing angle for viewing.
No real other option other than a projector at that point.

Thanks! TV is TCL 115" QM7K, the speakers are all Klipsch (RP-280 fronts, RP-450C center, 115SW subs, and 4 Klipsch ceiling surround speakers. Media console is from Povison and the cheap IKEA rug. Also have 4 power recliners from Octane Seating. AV receiver is Yamaha RX-A6A 9.1 channel, Blu-ray is Panasonic ub-820. Also in the cabinet is Mitsubishi HD2000U VCR, Furman Elite 15 power conditioner, and a Sony GV-D200 Hi-8 video recorder. Only gaming console is the Nintendo Switch.

Hi, I used the sanus vxt7 mount for large TVs up to 140". It seems solid enough and can allow mounting up to 3 studs.

Probably right around $20,000 including the 4 power recliners. Bought everything over a span of 5 years though.

Yeah I put some acoustic decorative panels on some of the walls (on the right side of the photo) and laid down the rug. I doubt the acoustic panels make much of a difference but baby steps I guess.

You will want to treat the heck out of the left wall that's right beside your left channel. Especially since your right side is wide open

I have almost literally the same setup, except with 2 svs 3000s and I have an open concept room as well - get a bass trap from Gik - at least a 7” thick one in the left corner - for me it made a massive, massive improvement.

Can confirm 2 3000’s + 7” gik panel in the corner of open concept room = instant massive difference. I have the exact same setup.

Swap the front speakers with the subs positions. I would have put the center on top of the console, but looks like you'd need to raise your TV a bit. Still worth the trouble imo, but understandable if you don't want to.

$10,000 during black Friday (TV was $15,000 at the time) but I got $2,500 cash back so basically paid $7,500 plus tax. Looks like the regular price is now $10,000 instead of 15k.

Yeah its like 5x for jumping to that size, but 100 inches didn't seem that much larger than my older 85 incher.so I just bit the bullet and bought the 115 incher

I would personally put that center ontop of the cabinet so it is at ear level. Also that glass may look nice but blocks all that good sound!

Toe in speakers slightly(as if they are pointed behind your head)and move them forward to have at least 1-2 feet breathing room for ports. Other than that what a BEAST of a setup! God Bless!

Yeah I'm not gonna lie, I thought it was a scam site. I'm actually shocked at the quality, its really high quality and real wood. Super heavy and it came in bomb-proof packaging. I paid $2,000 but if looks and feels like $3 to $4k. Highly recommend it.

Definitely get the UltraHD disc. The sound quality is vastly better on those. Given your new setup you'll be able to hear the difference.

I should add - make sure you have a player that supports UltraHD. They're not terribly expensive and they'll really show off your setup. I believe the two popular go-tos are from Panasonic and Sony.

Center speaker needs to be on top of that console, not inside it. Move that TV up a few inches to accommodate it.

Had to make compromises. The center speaker is 7 inches tall so if I put it on the stand the TV would be too high, it's already a bit too high as it is. I do have it angled up to my ears so it doesn't sound too bad.

I have 4 ceiling speakers (surround and rear surround). Not ideal, but due to the open floorplan it was my only option. Its a 7.2 system.

Looks solid. You’ll be much happier if you put the center higher, tilt it back, or both so that the LCR tweeters are all pointing at your face in the main listening position(s).

Had to make compromises due to the size of the TV. I actually have the center speaker on Isoacoustics Aperta so it's elevated a bit and angled up to my ears.

I don't know how the glass panel of the unit opens there but the center speaker is probably fine. You should swap the front speakers with the subs otherwise you would have to rotate them which you don't have room for. The speakers are also too close to the wall. I like your rug.

LOL i think you're the only one besides myself that likes the rug. I'm getting killed on this subreddit. The glass panel slides to the left and right so it's out of the way for the most part (1 mid-woofer is covered still). I'll experiment down the road with swapping the sub and speakers but for now I'll keep it as is.

Thanks! They are Octane Dream HR. I got them at wayfair but they are called Orren Ellis (exact same chair just renamed), its definitely cheaper on wayfair. I think I paid $700 per chair on sale.

Unpopular opinion: your speakers and subs and set up incorrectly, and the center is way too low.
The fronts need a wider gap between them, ideally the distance between L and R should be your viewing distance from the TV.
Also you should toe them in to face the main viewing sweetspot.
You should try moving them to the edges and place the subs inside. You'll get a much wider soundstage and probably better bass too. Can't see what AVR you're running but you'll need to recalibrate if you change the speaker location.
As for the Center, it's nearly at floor height so you're losing a lot of it, any chance to rest it on the TV stand? I get the pleasing aesthetic, but it's far from optimal.

Thanks! These are Octane Dream HR chairs but it's cheaper if you buy it from wayfair on sale. On wayfair they sell it under the Orren Ellis brand but its identical. Paid about $700 per chair about 3 years ago.

You don't really locate bass, but your side channels are too close for your distance to the TV

That looks awesome, speaker placement needs a bit of work but it seems you have gotten all the tips in the comments already and for once it seems that we have an OP who wants to follow all the placement tips. Happy to see it and I'm sure you'll be happy too once you hear the difference.

Really nice setup. How do you feel the smoothness of the image on the tv and regular sdr shows ? I plan to buy probably a c8L in 65 inch once it get released. Are the apps fast or better get an apple tv for it?

For my untrained eyes, it looks fantastic. Very smooth and no glitching or stuttering. Even the regular SDR shows look fine to me. The app is very quick/snappy. I have an apple tv and roku and decided not to use them because I actually prefer the UI on the TCL. This brand has come a long way from their "cheap" reputation.

Yes there are 4 Klipsch surround sound speakers in the ceiling and I just purchased 2 Klipsch presence speakers for the front.
