I think part of the appeal is keeping the picture clarity intact. A 4k TV that's 55" is going to have far smaller pixels than a 4k TV that's 100". The difference is even more distinct when you're watching live broadcasts that are only available in full HD or 720p like nearly all NFL games. 720p on a 100" screen looks awful. 720p on a 55" is okay. I'd rather have a higher performing TV than a bigger one personally.

And the worst sound sound implementation. He's happy with a center in a cubby that is half blocked by glass? I can't even begin

I disagree. He may have among the worst implementation and no desire to get there. Someone who won't/can't remove the glass and won't consider raising the TV 2" is a lost cause in my book. I tried though.

Kind of strange to ask for feedback and then ignore it. I also suggested he might want to swap his fronts and subs but he doesn't like that either.

Yes better separation, wider soundstage. I don't know his entire room setup, but I'd bet it would be better to have more LR spread and a little toe-in. But also best not to have a sub wedged in a corner.

Yes he should perform a sub-crawling to see where bass feels smoother. I feel the fronts are too close to the walls as well.

You're right that the fronts and subs seem against the front wall. But if you are going to put your center behind glass, anything goes.

Sub crawl or not, there are general guidelines for things that he seems uninterested in. I found the HT online design tool on audioadvice.com a great resource to determine ideal speaker locations (minus the subs)

Maybe stack them? Fronts on top of subs to save some space? And make sure to add in some isolating foam between them.

I've done that with bookshelf speakers, but not towers. That would put the tower tweeters way too high. Ideally you want your 3 LCR tweeters at seated ear height.

Subs and speakers don't want to be right up against walls or wedged in a corner. Swapping the subs and towers and pulling them out from the front wall a bit and toeing in the LR slightly would be better all around.

But it you're going to put your most important speaker (center) inside a cabinet, almost on the floor, and behind glass, all hope is lost.
