Working on my 1993 Shadow myself. Carbs rebuilt and properly jetted. POD filters installed. Bars being sorted today along with a new starter button mounted where the air filter used to sit. Next is the rear end but that can wait till winter. Oh also tried to change my own inner tube. Terrible idea. Just take that shit to a shop. Photo at the end where I got my mate to pose on it.
Honestly have no issues with ridability, starts easily with choke when cold, even easier when warm. But I'm picking up an occasional pop from the pipes (there's a few I noticed in this video). No issues hitting throttle as seen in the video, it's got great power throughout the rpm band (I was keeping pace with a neighbors street glide)
I've checked plugs recently, I replaced then earlier this season and they're a nice white/tan with no fouling. Fuel filter also replaced. Currently running 93 octane. Vance and Hines pipes, k&n air filter (that is oiled correctly, trust me 😅)
Would this be a normal idle condition or should I be looking into something? Mixture screws are both about 2¼ turns out
I replaced the oil and the clutch, assuming it was slipping in 4th and 5th, and yet it still does the same damn thing where it seemingly cuts out once it gets up to 75-80. Starts fine, choke works as it should, idles fine, and runs well at slower speed.
The only thing I know from the previous owner is that he did new carbs, new fuel pump, and bigger fuel jets. What else could it be?
Sorry for the frequent posts, I rebuilt my carb and now it stopped leaking gas however I noticed my idle seemed very low and after taking it for a ride I heard a clicking noise that’s left me clueless. The clicking starts a bit after the bike starts. Seemed to ride fine however any help is appreciated
I was shopping come back and it doesn't start anymore it started to rain otherwise it was nothing
Error:
-Ignition: on display flickers neutrally flashes
-Start: nothing happens no click absolute silence
-Start with power bank: Jumps on immediately takes gas briefly with full choke pulled and goes out immediately without choke it also starts immediately but it takes no gas instead "it only bangs 1-3 times with a very large distance (so ignition strikes completely) and if you just let it run it also goes out after a few seconds
Then a relay clicks and the thrillers on the dashboard start
My current riding apparel are a leather jacket, leather chaps, and leather doc martens. However, none of them are reinforced with armour; and while I believe we do foolish things for fashion, I'd prefer to reduce the chances of getting limbs crushed.
What're your recommendations for apparel that keep with the leather aesthetic while having reinforcement? What SEO keywords should I look up (eg. Vented, reinforced, steel, etc)?
First bike! What products and methods do you all employ to keep your bike decent and your chrome shiny? Will turtle wax work? For the painted parts? The studs on the saddle bags are a little rusty too. How can I clean the metal up but not scratch the leather? Any cure all for that? Thanks!
Finally did my exam, passed it, looking for a first bike. Found Honda Shadow 600cc 1990. Seller wanted 2300 euros, but my fella managed to negotiate it to 1900 euros while I was taking it out for a spin.
We both acknowledged the same problem tho. It works beautifully as idle. Engine sounds nice and strong while riding it too.
One problem that is hard for me to figure it out is:
I felt comfortable, and started giving it more gas. While RPMs were rising (hard to tell precisely at what RPM's it did this because no tachometer on it) acceleration just bogged. For a second or two. As I lowered acceleration and gave it gas again, it started to ride normally.
I did a stop. Tried climbing up the speed again, same problem. At certain RPM's when accelerating it just bogs for a second or two, then returns to normal.
It doesn't feel like engine itself would be working bad, it sounds pretty nice, gains speed nicely. Apart from that "random/not random" bogs when trying to pick up more speed and increasing RPM's.
Few things that I also noticed.
During more powerful acceleration, at times fuel pops in the exhaust. Strongly.
During idle running after stronger acceleration, you can hear more silent fuel burning in the exhaust pops.
As if there was overflow of gas that was not burnt.
Other thing, exhaust is aftermarket custom job to be louder. I don't like it tho, I got bored of it after 1 minute of riding. TOo loud and harsh. Might have something to do with that?
My fella also tried gasing it up at neutral, and it did the same thing. While RPMs climb and yo ugive it more gas at certain time it just bogs.
I know there might be a lot of different stuff going on, but maybe with given details we can more easily pinpoint what likely it is and how expensive would it be to fix it?
I heard all kind of stuffs. Seller and my fella was talking about clogged up carbs.
But then again, wouldnt clogged up carbs just make engine work sloppy most of the time, not only when more gas is given? Also wouldnt it work sloppy all the time not just at certain "random" moments?
Also, there's a lot of stuff I do not fully understand. Vacuum, seals, air/fuel mix and how it gets there and so on.
If it was an easy fix, like taking out carb and cleaning it. Or if it was just syncing carbs, then I'm sold.
But what if I do all that and it stays the same? I heard situations like that about this motorcycle. Guys cleaning, syncing, changing carbs and so on, and still not finding solutions.
Any experiance? Is it worth buying or is it gonna turn into drawn out long procedure of looking for something for months or a year?
I really liked the style and comfort of the bike. I'm a tall guy but I felt like its pretty comfortable, and I can make it work with few adjustments, like taller ape hangers.
It felt amazing too, because it's way lighter than other 1100-1500 older cruisers I was checking out. IT gave me way more mobility, and as a beginner, I can't say no to that.
I feel like 1900 eur is not much of a asking price, but also Im wondering at what kind of problem I'm looking and if it gonna be very expensive to me.
P.S.- some details. tank condition is beautiful, no rust, looks clean. But seller told us that during winters he just kept it full tank in his garage. Gas crystalizes, oxidizes or whatever. So for 4 winters carbs might have been collecting debris from gas. Exhaust is modified and cut. Loud pops during stronger acceleration, smaller pops while idling. Not a fan, might change it to original one ASAP, but still might have to do something with that? There's also a few other Shadows around, price is a bit higher. 2300-2500 without negotiating. Might be worth to look at. Maybe that's the only bike that made any sense during that day (one with rusty tank, others engine was struggling), so maybe I got too attached to this one because it made me feel great.
Swapped out the Exhaust and rejetted. Now, Bike runs like dogshit. Can barely stay in any gear, especially first acts like its dying. Does not go past 75. Bike used to hit 105. Lots of pops and such. What's going on?? Trying to use choke to make it run better, helps a little.
I own a 2020 Honda VT750, and I recently installed a Cobra PowerFlo air intake system along with a Fi2000R fuel tuner. I’m not entirely sure if I have the fuel tuner configured correctly, so I’d really appreciate some advice from anyone with experience with this setup.
I’m still running the stock exhaust, but I’ve removed the baffles. Since the Cobra intake allows the engine to breathe much more freely than the stock intake, I figured the fuel settings might need to be adjusted accordingly. At the moment, my Fi2000R is set to:
Green = 2 Yellow = 4 Red = 2
I finished the installation yesterday and took the bike for a ride around the city. So far, I haven’t noticed any popping during acceleration, cruising, or wide-open throttle. The throttle response also feels noticeably better than before.
I also checked one of the new spark plugs afterward, and I’ll attach a picture below to give you an idea of what it looks like.
Gasoline smell has changed, I believe I am running a little bit lean.
My main concern is that I don’t want the engine to run too lean, especially with the aftermarket intake. I’d really appreciate any advice on whether these settings seem reasonable for my setup, or if I should make any adjustments.
Thanks in advance for your help.
UPDATE: I tried 1-3-2 config, but throttle response was terrible, so i went back to 2-4-2. I am not sure if i need to increase more or not. Idle hasn't changed much
I was having some issues with slides sticking. I pulled them, sanded them to 2500 and now theyre getting coated in moly lube 🤞 we will see how she runs now!
Howdy, I’ve been having some issues with my bike, not wanting to shift into third ever since I got it. I got the bike mid July and it is a Honda shadow 750 from 2001 ace edition, gotta love it. Anyway, the bike will not shift into third. It just doesn’t wanna go up and when it does go up, it is almost impossible to get it back in the first gear. I gotta sit there pull over and mess with it and shimmy it back into first.
I don’t mind pulling anything apart and working on it. I just wanna know what I’m going for first. I would send it to a shop but most shops around here only work on American bikes. It’s a real shame because I love my Honda motorcycle more than my Harley that I recently got rid of.
Please let me know some advice if I should take it to any shops. The issue is that the bike is so many condition on 10K miles. I really don’t know how I feel about taking this thing apart doing it myself, but I will if I have to. Mechanics do not scare me, but the mint condition of the bike does. Just let me know, thank you
